September 2018 Marks My First $500+ Month (Amazon Niche Site Update)

Last Update: October 05, 2018

Hi WA'rriors,

This is just a quick update on my Amazon niche site that I've been working on lately.

We all love them income report posts, don't we? :)

Plus it's a good way for me to keep track of my site's progress.

Anyway...

As of September 30, 2018, my website has made $520 in commissions.

(Last month it was $325).

In a month, my website will be 1 year old.

Currently I have 45 posts, most of them best of's, some are individual product reviews and the rest are info/how-to posts.

(I can only imagine how much $$$ I'd have made if I had more content).

Traffic was close to 300 visitors per day but last few days it kept dropping to less than 200 for some reason... I guess end of September not too many people search for my niche products?

I will see how traffic is in the next few days to see if it's just a temporary slump in traffic.

What's next?

Now, it's important not only to maintain the $500+ months, but also strive to increase it. My next goal is $1000/month (on regular months). I have NO idea what to expect during the holidays, that's for sure.

My big thanks to Kyle, Carson and the whole Wealthy Affiliate community, you guys are awesome!

Zarina,

All of us are happy for your progress!

But, if you will check Amazon's Affiliate Rules, I believe they state that as an Associate you are not to disclose your Amazon income publicly.

I looked to find the place, but there are like 27 pages and the reading/understanding is difficult . . . I would contact Amazon Associates Support and ask them, just to be sure, one way or the other. I have been told they are very helpful.

Just a word of caution from a learner. Amazon Associates Program is very strict and detailed. I may hire a Philadelphia lawyer.

I have not joined Amazon's program yet, but plan to soon.

That's strange, so many other websites sharing approximate income they make from Amazon sites (without displaying website URL). I will have to double check, thanks for letting me know.

I know---there are a lot of strange things, even contradictory things I have recently read about Amazon Associates by people who may not know what they are talking about! That's why I suggested talking to the Amazon Associates folks directly.

Is there a directory for all the WA members? I would like to email someone.

I don't think there's a directory here, but you can use Private Messages to reach out to WA members.

Thanks for sharing your success Zarina. Per your decline in traffic, other WA members have posted about similiar findings.

"My Amazon sales have also been down. Ever since the new Google update it seems my traffic and sales decreased. Lately though it seems my traffic is back so I am not sure why sales are down. September has not been a good month for my sales." -Swangirl

Thanks for sharing! Vitaliy mentioned political scandals and Jewish holidays playing a role too.

Well done. That is awesome.

I dont mean to burst your bubble, I am delighted for you, honestly I am. But why is the conversion rate so low?

This something I keep seeing here and in FB groups..folks proud of their accomplishments (and rightly so) but have low conversion rates.

Could this be related to the "best of strategy" (higher up in the sales funnel?) and getting more...return visits and sales that way (i.e the same person clicking 2x or 3x and buying (something not measured by amazon!)

I always thought 10% was kind normal conversion rate on Amazon, with 15% being good and 20%..excellent. (Based on video training and what Jay Said).

I am only mentioning, because I want to think what you can do if you double your conversion rate..and with a little traffic growth you could be staring at $1500 before you know it!.

No worries, you're not bursting my bubble Derek :) I did make some changes to increase my conversion rate (results were better).

From what I could gather, people usually purchase my website-related products from best of posts, but I could be wrong. If its through EazyAzon, I don't have tracking ID.

Maybe I need to work on placing my links better again?

Also, maybe it's because my niche products are more expensive? (average price is $500-1000, more expensive items around $3000-5000).

I will try to put out more individual posts reviews though, they seem to be ranking pretty well too.

I always thought that people worked off a conversion rate of around 3% to 5% for Amazon, just from what I have read and seen here.
Reply
Zarina Premium
Yeah me too, actually. Hopefully Derek will see our questions :)

HI Steve,

Thanks for chipping in. I got the 10% to 20% from Jay, something he mentioned in a WAbinar not long after I joined. I have seen posts of Nathaneils (on his site) where he is doing 13%ish

That is what I base a 10% min on.

Zarina - I was just under 9% before using easyAzon after (and changing all reviews to use that plugin) I went up to 13% so most certainly it helps.

Yeah it definitely makes life easier! Maybe it's the product type then? But will have to analyze conversion rates again at some point. Thanks for your input, Derek!

That's amazing what you've accomplished with just 45 posts! I've got over 240 posts, but I'm definitely not generating the kind of income you are.

You mentioned that an overwhelming majority of your posts are best of posts. Are you finding the most success with those kinds of posts as well as your review posts? A majority of my posts tend to me more informative posts especially with my experiences of certain products. Maybe I should start changing my posts up a little.
Reply
Zarina Premium
Yes, best of posts with the year in it will help you rank faster (higher), and within those best of posts you can add links to individual product reviews which will help your visitor get deeper in the customer purchase cycle (phase where they'll likely to make a purchase).

Info/how-to posts are good because they have no affiliate links (just internal links within your posts), but the money is in best of posts.

Find @dylanrieger in the search bar here at WA and read his posts, you'll see why so many people were inspired to use that approach, myself included.

Let me know if changing things up worked for you!

Thank you so much, that's very helpful and I will definitely read his posts. I think it's time for me to get out of my comfort zone with informative posts and move more into the review phase as well as best of posts or maybe even comparison posts of products in my niche.

Way to go Zarina. Great to see the process working. Congratulations on making your $500 p/m goal. Next stop $1000 p/m then who knows where it will take you.

On the traffic I see you got a response on the Sept slump. I too noticed a definite decrease in traffic so it does seem to be normal at this time of the year. Hopefully things will build up now towards the holidays again.

Yep, $1000/month is my next goal! It's been a steady progress, hopefully now things will snowball.

Have you fixed your EazyAzon issue?
Reply
tommo1968 Premium
No, I'm binning it. Doing them all manually from now on. Support was a washout. Have hundreds of links to redo. There's my content plans on hold for awhile.
Reply
Zarina Premium
Sorry to hear about that :( Did they at least explain what was the issue about??
Reply

What is the EazyAzon issue? I had an issue with the plugin back in June.
Reply

Do you use EazyAzon or sitestripe?
Reply
Zarina Premium
I use both (sitestripe for button CTA's).

As for Mark he had all his images disappeared or something and in the settings there was an error notification... Anyway, probably Mark will explain it better lol.

tommo1968 Premium
I had a credential error meaning my API keys were not working anymore. So all my image links were gone. I had used both them and sitestripe on my best of posts along with a few other review posts. I now am working through them redoing the images and links.

Domw's team at HPD had advised I drop EasyAzon a while ago after they had heard the plugin was not supported anymore I held off thinking as it was working I would be OK but it seams an upgrade in another plugin or theme has conflicted and now I am forced to move on.

I tried all that support advised me to do without success.

Did you make any changes in your theme, plugin recently? I haven't heard about EasyAzon's issues before you. Is there an alternative to it though?

This is more than $10 per post, a very good number. Imagine that you can double the conversion rate. The question is how. One more thing, it may be time to think about another site, some different niche.

About the drop in the traffic, I see the same in all sites and this is disturbing, but in my case it is seasonal, it should not be in your case.

You are clearly making a steady progress. Best luck.
Reply
Zarina Premium
Well, for now approximately 1/3 or 1/4 of my traffic clicks through to Amazon, I've been told it's a good number. Still conversions are something to work on.

Jovo, how many affiliate links per word count do you have? Is 20 amazon links per let's say 4000+ words is fine?

As for the niche, I have one in mind but it'll definitely be something that I will have a freelancer to work on (good niche but I have zero knowledge on it). Not happening this year though, need to ensure a stable source of income from this Amazon first.

My WA commissions are unstable since I don't work on that site too much yet.
Reply
jvranjes Premium
No doubt your click rate is very high.

I see many successful sites that have such a number of links or even more in lists posts, so this should not be a problem. You are doing good with similar posts so this tells you it works. All you need is more stuff in the site.

Yet another Amazon-type site would give some more sales to fill in the gaps.
Reply
Zarina Premium
I know but those sites probably HUGE and that's why I am careful with the amount of links I have, though it's logical for Google not to hate on links if the quality is good (at least that's what I've been told).

Another Amazon site is definitely in my plans. How many Amazon sites do you have? How's your site doing so far? Also, by how much were your holiday earnings increased compared to regular months income?
Reply
jvranjes Premium
Have them 3 and they are doing fine but they are seasonal and I see the decrease in some almost by half, it is outdoor stuff.

There is no way to know how Google is going to react, too many factors. I do not think they have anything against links in general.

Awesome, Zarina! Go you!

This is very inspiring for me because I have a site with 46 posts and it's just under 4 months old. I've started getting some sales now with only a handful of traffic a week. So, I can't wait for it to be close to a year like yours. It should do well by then.

You'll really ramp up now that you are feeling better and can focus on more content.

Thanks for sharing, and all the best!
Stella :-)

Wow you accomplished a lot in 4 months, Stella! Just make sure you have lengthy "best of" posts (Dylan's strategy is what inspired me to start this Amazon site).

And yeah not only do I feel better but I am having more support in the face of freelance writers, so we'll see what I can achieve in the next few months!

Thanks for your support Stella! :)

Let's go champ!

And as for the reasons why your traffic dropped: Jewish holidays and all the political scandals likely played a major role. My traffic dropped too for this period and it's normal for September.

Thank you, Vitaliy! :)

Thanks for letting me know, I didn't really think about these being the possible factors to my traffic drop. Happy to see my Amazon site achieving new milestones nonetheless!

Wow good job. That’s surprising because for a site that is a year old it should have way more content. I know my site has over 50 posts and is like 8 months old but I am trying to reach 100 posts. You must have a really good niche , I need to get started on my amazon niche site I kind of left it on the back burners while I focus on my main site
Reply
Zarina Premium
Yeah, I know. I started this site after my accident/orthopaedic surgery, so a lot of my energy was going into recovery. I was slow with content production but what matters is that I continued putting it up.

Can you imagine if I had more content?

(And used best of list posts, which definitely what helped).

My niche is pretty expensive, so if people buy stuff related to my niche it ranges from $20-100 in commissions per product.
