Is it bad manners to unfollow someone?
Hi everyone. Here is a concern I'm having. (see at the end.. first some introduction)
I love reading blog posts from many people on Wealthy Affiliate. That's why I'm following over 100 people already.
However, I'm getting some 50 emails per day mentioning new blog posts.
At first I tried to read them all, but I just can't keep doing that. So I need a way to tune down the stream of emails I'm getting.
I don't want to disable these emails because I don't see any other way of keeping up to date with the latest posts. The activity dashboard seems to mix up the 'latest posts' at random, and I can't sort there, so that doesn't work for me.
So, how to filter?
Some blog posts are more interesting to me than others. This is personal preference and does not mean that I find some posts badly written. It's just that some posts and writing styles resonate more with me than others.
Yesterday I started unfollowing some people to bring down the number of blog posts that I 'have' to read every day. (minor case of OCD??)
I don't even know if they got a message that I unfollowed them, but if that happened: don't feel bad that I unfollowed you :-) I can't and won't say anything bad about your posts!
Now here is my question:
Is it considered bad manners to unfollow someone?

I agree with all who have said you need to use a system which works for you. I chose to follow everyone who followed me first including those I initially followed.
However, in terms of emails, I do scan through them to find topics I'm interested in. Also, I adjusted my settings to narrow down the volume. Prioritise what matters to you most.
Hi, I tried to do the same, scanning through the titles.
However, I found out that although some titles don't catch my attention, the contents of the blogs many times contain something interesting.
I think I'll make a rule in my inbox that move all WA emails to a subfolder. Then once or twice a day, I can scan through there.
Cheers to you , and the rest who commented. It's been interesting :-D
I don't think it's bad manners to unfollow someone. It's your choice to fine tune what you want to receive.
I unfollowed quite a few for the same reason, that the blogs they present do not have my interest. I follow 9.3K
I have my own method. Way to handle the WA email flow
Suberb!!...tweaking my post, even finer!!
Thanks, Lies!! Always, trying to up my game!!

Hello Wouter, it can become time consuming to read every post of your followers, especially has that number increases. That said, I see nothing wrong with selecting which followers peak your interest more than others. You can always reverse that decision as time permits.
I don't believe it should be a problem, at the same time you not obligated to read all the posts.
Choose what you like and are interested in.
Simple answer: No :) It's your time. Use it wisely.
There are plenty of ways to keep tabs on those you want to read regularly. You could make a favorites folder with their link in it so you could check up whenever you wanted to.
Don't see any problem at all- just don't read what you don't like.
I wouldn't unfollow people without a big reason, but that's my take on things. :)
My main interest is reading NEW posts, when they come out.
That's why I need the emails. unless someone knows of a way to find the newest posts on the WA website?
And I can't be opening all the emails and checking the contents to see if I want to read it. That already takes me too much time.
So I think my only way to decrease the flow of emails is to either completely shut it off, or unfollow people
It's up to you of course.
I have 2000+ followers and I don't see a very big problem in it. I more or less know who writes what and how and what of the written might interest me.
You don't read all the books in the library, right? And you have no idea to dump them.
And of course I can read some blogs of people who are new to me if the title is of interest to me and if I have time.:)
Wouter,
You can go to your account settings and change your email notifications by clicking on your small picture in the top right corner then click "Account Settings" and then scroll down to notifications.
You can then follow as many as you would like and get absolutely no emails and then when you log onto WA you will be able to choose the posts that interest you.
Does this help you my Friend?
Let me know Wouter,
Tony
Hi Tony, yes and no.. My problem with this is that I stop the emails from coming in completely.
How would I then be able to find the latest posts by people I follow?
Hi Wouter,
You could go directly to their WA Profile page my Friend.
Their recent posts will be directly below their pictures on the right hand side of their profile page.
That is also where you can view their trainings and website(s) and/or Social Media Page(s) that they share.
Does this help a little more my Friend?
Tony
Hi, no, that would mean I'd have to go into 100+ profiles to see if there is a new blog.
What I like to have is some way to have a list of the most recent posts of the people I follow.
And as far as I know, my email is the only place I can see that.
But no worries. It's called "Following".. not "Friend". So I just look at it this way: All WA'ers are my Friends. I just don't 'Follow' all of them.
YES AND no. Yes because others will take it personal or hard sometimes. No, BECause you have to do what is best for you to be productive and efficient. Hope this helps... salute.
yes, I totally agree. And for sure I will keep on unfollowing people whose posts just don't resonate with me. I have to take care of myself in the end :-)
However, I wanted to start a discussion on this topic, just to get it 'out there'
And I wanted to let people know that I don't unfollow them because I don't like them Those are totally unrelated topics. Up until now I like everyone I met here. :-)
great discussion and viewpoints. Time is the highest commodity. So like you, I only read things that resonate with me and inspire growth of some sort. Thanks, WLusink.

Hi Wouter,
Your post is very educational and I am very pleased you wrote it!
Why? Because it is going to make me go back to all my previous website blogs and ask myself, is my article interesting. Would a visitor stay and read my post? Is my work Quality, or does it look like I have just tried to fill up a page?
You have hit the nail on the head and are helping people with your post. You have certainly helped me because I am now going to try even harder to be a better and more engaging writer.
Thanks, Wouter, you have opened my eyes. A wake-up call.
Cheers mate,
Brad
