Hi... Happy to start here... I am more about languages and books and poetry and writing and music and growing flowers, that sort of things...Not a very technical person, but becoming better.. Now in my constant fighting with the computer he(can't call this clever machine "it" )is not always the winner...But woe to you, support team... You are going to have much more work now that I have come...

OOPS - Please skip my previous message and substitute this one below - I doubled some stuff... This is better:

Many thanks, Vera! I've not had this level of detailed examination and grammar analysis of my writing since Freshman Comp! I was surprised and relieved that this paragraph didn't have major problems with punctuation, as I rarely use the semicolon so much.

The first two I 'get' easily, although my casual use of present perfect in this way is questionable, it clearly is better to do without it. Done.

I'm not sure about your 3rd point. Here is what I wound up with:

"A period of solitude, alone-time away from the noise and interruptions of others can be many things. It can be a great relief; essential "me" time to recharge and recapture focus. It can be an opportunity to sort things out and rework the big plan. But if it lasts long enough it can be a lonely and painful exile from the community. It can lead to a spiral of depression and feelings of alienation, if we allow it to consume us."

Is this better? Hard for me to tell. I was going for very slight ambiguity to be cleared up in the points below - a way to plant a question to be answered. Even after you pointed it out, it didn't seem confusing to me, but I gave it a shot anyway. The revisions have been published along with a couple minor format updates in the body of the post.

I hope to see a question from you or request for my review so I can return the favor. I believe in paying my debts promptly. Would you share your website so I can see your work?

Kudos for your in-depth command of English grammar. This is well beyond what I expect from most Americans and Brits with advanced degrees in literature. I have come to expect better, more technically competent English from many who've acquired the language and appreciate it, than from most of us that simply take it for granted. I must read hundreds of words from you, Vera, to find a little bit of subtle 'accent'. Pretty amazing IMHO.
Cheers,
Steve

So sorry to see you drop like this under the new regime Vera!
I'm afraid if you read HG Wells "The Time Machine" The beautiful nature loving Eloi are being devoured by the dread Moorlocks emerging from behind the WA Iron Curtain!
All you can do is let your nature shine trough the cracks. There's hope if you adapt to a lower level Sarah (Believe it yes) just came up 200 + points. She does the face painting videos!

Hi Gary
Nice to meet you.
I daresay in your romance with languages a big role belongs to the teacher, or self motivation (better, both). Maybe you were just not too lucky in it...
Wish you success here at WA!:)

Good afternoon Vera,

I am just like you. I have a love/hate relationship with that machine
and to be truthful with most machines.
Now my better half does most of the technical stuff, I have just mastered to write in words, put it in draft, add photos and all the details and then publish it. For me a huge step forward as I got a computer end 2013 and used it only for emails/photos and following Webinars/Master classes on subjects of my interest.
I always say this to the new people I meet here, if you need a good source for writing do have a look at my WA post on the Spanish priest and the world library, some amazing manuscripts there.
Thank you for the follow and all the best.

Regards, Taetske

I've always thought I had a knack for learning languages. These are my languages in order of fluency:
1. English - native
2. Korean - read, write, & speak at home but am only semi-fluent - I speak almost like a native speaker but have a poor command of grammar because I never took more than one formal class.
3. Spanish - learned by living in El Paso, TX for 2.5 yrs
4. French - learned during Jr & Sr High for 5 yrs - Never met more than one person who spoke French...I met this person in Mexico and since I didn't speak Spanish at the time, and this person didn't speak English, we spoke French.

I look forward to following you on your journey and wish you success!

My wife and I are trying to learn Spanish from babel and another app.

Any suggestions to speed up the journey of language learning?
Reply
learn2bgreat Premium
Yes!

The easiest way to learn any language is:
1. Immersion. You have to put yourself in a place where you have no choice but to speak the language. Take a vacation to Mexico, South America, Spain, Puerto Rico, etc... There are tons of drastically different dialects and accents but the core of the language is the same. Who do you know who speaks Spanish who can help you?
2. Duolingo - Spanish. I don't think there's a better app for learning Spanish anywhere. It's great!
3. Think of everything you need to say to hold a conversation in a situation. If you're ordering food at a restaurant, what nouns do you need to know and what verbs do you need to conjugate? Once you've gotten one area down, continue to add more while practicing what you've gotten down. Situational learning puts the language in a framework that makes language learning easier.

Hope this helps!

Darren

Hi Yvon
thank you.
I think it is obtaining freedom in writing in English. I am not a native English speaker. Now I have poetry written enough for my own book ( You may look - "He is Risen" and other verses in my account) and lots of blogs covering various topics which English- speaking people like.
But I still have lots of things to learn and do.:)

Thanks for the add Vera! I have done the same...Have a great weekend, the sun is shining brightly here today in Dubai, and the cool weather is on its way out...

The 'cats' post you made was good BTW, I have a couple and the two not only provide lots of entertainment, they kill anything bad (like mice, leaf eating caterpillars) that moves in the area...

Sometimes they do get the good things that happen by, like an unwary bird or the 'andechs' bug catchers found here (not sure of the word for these in English) too...

Cheers!
Dave : )

You might see it in your part of the world too. It's been exceptionally bright this year- you can still see it .Looking at the night sky I often write poetry- in case you are interested- Have a good weekend!:)

Hello, and thank you!

Being new to the community is both a challenge and a blessing. I think the challenge will be to me (and about me and what will work for me) while the blessing is when you get to know new friends and people who can guide you and advise you about what to do next.

I'll surely be bothering you with questions soon enough, for now, I just want to say cheers!

I am also 'techy challenged' and so grateful for the WA training as it takes us through those little steps in building a website. I would be so lost without this training.

It seems whenever I sit down in front of a computer, it knows that it is me and will have fun being mischievous. Luckily, I have a computer whiz as a husband, and as soon as he sits in front of the computer to help me sort out the techy mischief, lo and behold, the computer behaves itself. :)

Anyways, welcome to WA. This training is designed to help us 'techy challenged' folks get beyond, so that we can focus on flowers and poetry, etc. All the best to you.
