I'm the web mistress, I like that term ;) , of a blog I've had for several years. I blog about being a suburban, empty-nest mom, that finally achieved the goal of moving to the country, and all of the challenges that entail. My crafts, my animals, my country experiences are all up on my blog.

I'm a techie from way back when dinosaurs roamed the earth. I started my very first website way back in 1996. I've also got LOTS of experience in answering help desk questions.

All of my websites are the Plucky-Something websites. I think it fits with my sass. I've got two potential affiliate blogs up and running, and a third swimming around in my noggin. I can't wait to finally see my first dollar come in from an affiliate relationship. Patience.....

Hi Windflower!
I like your spunk, and I too am hoping to transition from city life to the country one day.
Also read your post on needing help with a care package for someone going through chemo. I was in that boat 5 years ago. One thing that comforted me were soft comfy knit caps that I could wear when I lost my hair cuz my head got cold (for the first and last time). Later I had lymph nodes removed and my thermo- stat is now stuck on "hot"!
Anything that she thinks smells good or sounds good get it for her to eat. I was by myself, stopped eating and ended up in ICU for 5 days.
I also enjoyed listening to audio books, some days I was just too weak to hold a real book for any length of time.
Hope these few items help, and blessings to both of you.

Audio books are a good idea. She could have that on her phone, and not even have to lift it to view anything. Thanks!

Hi, Wildflower, nice to meet you. We will have to swap country living stories one of these days. We had a moose wander through the yard this morning, have a drink at the birdbath, and then moseyed along the way. Great fun. You mention in Live Chat today that you had a site on elementor, would you mind sharing your website. I have just started using the web page builder and could use the help.
Thanks, Sandy

Another suburbanite who found her way to the country...yahoo! I've done the same just this year and couldn't be happier. I will definitely check out your blog!

I caught a bit of your "long tail keywords" discussion on chat yesterday just as you were signing off, and I found I agreed with so much you asked and stated.

I found it amusing that someone posted on chat (after you left the discussion, I believe), that Kyle hiring content writers to work on the training would be "giving away" too much authority/control (can't recall the exact word used). I can't think of a situation with LESS control over the training content than the one that exists now, where every individual with a premium account is encouraged to put up training on whatever they wish! With the formal upgrading of training content, Kyle would obviously guide and approve the entire production before any modules were released, so I truly fail to see the individual's point.

Like you, I have been led down some unfortunate avenues by those who meant well but didn't REALLY know as much as they thought. Or who just put up training to get their "brownie points" with WA. Personally, I hesitate to give much advice here for the reason you stated in your latest blog post: I have no clue if my experiences are typical and applicable to others or are just experiences unique to me.

Don't get me wrong, I really love the community here at WA, and I have truly learned a great deal. But, that said, the learning has not always been easy. Much of it has lacked sufficient detail/substantiation, not followed a "logical flow," and, in many cases, been so outdated that it's more confusing than helpful. I've also had to spend far too much time searching around for those I feel truly DO know what they are talking about from whom to seek guidance.

So I'm with you: with all the money WA obviously makes, it does seem the training could and should be revamped and updated.

Sorry for such a long-winded post. I just wanted to know I commiserate, without intending disrespect to anyone who does not. Opinions posted are mine...others' mileage may vary. ;)

Keep fighting the good fight! haha

OMG... I think I love you.

Seriously, you put a lot into your "long winded post," that reflected my thoughts exactly.

Even Kyle has training about hiring writers, once you become established. I wish he would follow his own advice.

I resurrected that discussion from yesterday's chat and wrote a WA blog about it, called Long Tail Keywords Discussion.

Now... the question that will decide our friendship... ready?.... Do you like cows? Specifically... Do you like cows .... wearing hats? /giggle

So sorry for the delay in response. I took a "play weekend" away from WA. Maybe not the best thing "for business," but definitely the best thing for my mental health. ;)

Do I love cows?! Well, who doesn't?!?! lol I don't know any personally, alas, but they dwell all around me and I always get a kick out of them. If I could only meet a cow wearing a hat, I would be most thrilled! They all seem to be hat-less around here.

Truth is, I love all animals. Even the "icky" ones (think spiders, snakes, bats, etc.). Well, perhaps I need to make an exception for roaches, mosquitoes, ticks, and fleas. THOSE critters I could do without!

I'll have to check out the comments on your Long Tail Keyword blog post. The first response I saw, though trying to be both authoritative and positive best I could tell, did not "prove" anything...i.e. did NOT address what you clearly showed in your post with the Jaaxy rankings, that adding on to your initial keyword re-ranked much lower. I see there are 18 comments now, so, evidently, the discussion lingers on! ;)

I best get to working on my site now. I use long tail keywords and hope that, ultimately, quality content will win the day in the end. Write, write, write I go...

Have a GREAT week. And give Cookie Monster a pat on the nose from me! :)

Short story: A visiting family member freaked out that we had a spider on the ceiling in our bathroom. My dear, dear husband went around and found ALL of the spiders, lurking in ceiling corners in our house, got out the masking tape, and Gave each of them a name for her next visit. (Poseidon now lives above our shower)

Also... my dog brings me grass snakes. I have a snake retriever. Who knew that was a breed?

The comments got ugly. I'm old enough and Lord knows experienced enough, to know when I'm being condescended to. It ended with him calling the woman childish. So predictable. #metoo

Very glad to have your friendship. :)

Hey Laurie...that's a great story about the spiders. I love it! My hubby, who is in town working, just asked me to look up the model number of the used mower he just bought over the weekend, and there on the storage shed door was a gorgeous, humongous spider. So of course I ran back into our cabin to get my camera! lol

Ugh about the comments. Maybe I won't check them out, then. Not all WA members are all that, ahem, wonderful, I've found. (If you can't say something nice...) But, thankfully, the good ones tend to go Above and Beyond to make up for the "losers."

Glad for your friendship in return. Happy day and week to you!

Heehee - I like you sense of humor. I am a techie from the same era as you - circa 1994-6 is when I first started building sites. I didn't start doing it full time until about 2002. I worked one "real" job since then and have been on my own since 2010. I love the pluckytutor! Keep up the great work. Looking forward to your success!

I will happily browse through your blogs! Internet marketing IS a steep learning curve, but I'm ready to conquer! lol I can't wait until I'm able to write training posts myself, because writing about a problem I've had to work my way through, is the best way for me to internalize the learning. Thanks for your kind offer of help. :)

Hello Windflower

Congratulations on going Premium.

I just wanted to say that while there is much value to be had here at Wealthy Affiliate, it can sometimes seem very overwhelming, with everything that has to be done.

My advice from experience is to focus totally on one of the training directions, the green certification OR the Bootcamp, and to stick with that until you have finished it.

Wishing you every success with your business.

~Mark

Things are going very well, aside from being sicker than a dog with the latest virus going around. I secured an affiliate agreement with the company that is the perfect fit for the narrow niche upon which I've decided. I'm trying to decide upon a new domain name, which is taking me a while, because I want it to be clever and appropriate. In the mean time, I'm mapping out the content that I want to write to establish the new blog. The best news, is that I don't see any other blogs out there for my niche, so I think it's going to be a nice, untapped market. I'm going to be using my own Wordpress site on a private server, so I will be skipping some of the content in the training. Thanks for checking.

Oh no, no fun at all. I hope you are on the mend soon!

When you choose a domain, you are going to want to choose something that is "brandable" versus something that has keywords within it. The reason this is the case is because as you build out your website, you can target as many keywords as you like within the content (that is how you will rank).

I have created a discussion here outlining the process and what to look for when choosing a domain name: This should help you out here and if you ever want to run any domains by me, simply let me know and I will give you some feedback.

PS. You can host up to 25 of your own domains here within the Premium membership on our state of the art hosting platform. :)

I hope things are going well. I know you are getting rolling within the training and there is ONE thing that always tends to confuse people and that is "what is my niche?".

I know, same thing happened to me when I started.

I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I am here if you ever want to run any niche "ideas" by me or you have any questions about finding your niche.

Get back to me when you get the chance! :)

Is it possible to have a different niche for every section of my website? For instance, I have the following categories on my site: DIY, Cooking, Crafts, Dogs, and more. I've had the blog since 2014, and I'd like to try to monetize it as it is. Is that possible?

Focus on just ONE website and create success with that before diversifying and creating multiple niche websites.

It only takes ONE website in one niche to be very successful online. I usually find that folks that try to do too much at once (focus on several niche websites) end up in a state of mediocrity because it can be overwhelming and you don't really ever become the expert in just one niche.

It is the experts (specialists) that create long term, successful businesses in any niche.

I left this message underneath where you wrote about your goal but I'll repeat it here just in case you've missed it.

It always takes time to start earning online but it sounds like you've got a headstart as you're already an experienced blogger. My sister is also an empty nester who moved to the country. I think it's a great niche audience that can relate to you

If you have any questions going forward just hit reply under this message. Or use the search box at the top where it says "Hey Laurie, search for help here..." You can also join in Live Chat (blue button on the left) during the first 7 days of membership. Of course premium members don't have any restrictions on using Live Chat.

I hope to chat with you again soon.
