Instagram Question
I got this email message today from someone who is on Instagram. I checked her profile out and she actually has over 100,000 followers and is following around 6,000..
"Hello XXXXXXXXX,
I only saw your unbelievable profile on Instagram, I am just reaching out to you because I want you to know that it's superb. You've got a lot of beautiful pictures, and you're doing a wonderful job.
I'd love to repost your pictures on my profile. My account is @XXXXXXXX and that I do have over 90000 followers, and if they see your pictures, many of them will follow you.
I hope that this sounds great for you, because I'm sure you will gain many followers from this.

So there are two things I would like to point out about my Instagram: I do NOT have a lot of beautiful pictures NOR would I consider by profile "unbelievable."
MY QUESTIONS? Why would somebody reach out to me? What's in it for her? What would you do?

It's very simple the will offer shout-outs. Shout-out is offered by big accounts so your account gets more reach. Sometimes free the first time most of the time they ask for a fee for every shoutout. It's also a great way to promote products in their stories with a swipe up so you can send them to a website.

It definitely sounds sketchy, but I'm curious as to what she gains from this. There has to be something in it for her...maybe more content. It's not that hard to get a lot of followers if you spend a lot of time trolling social media. Plus, a lot of people game the system with fake accounts. None of it sounds good.
I wondered the same thing - what is she looking for? We are not even in the same niche and, honestly, my account is quite new so nothing spectacular about it!

Sometimes people do genuinely get in contact with amazing offers, but to me this sounds pretty sketchy. It looks like a copy and paste job that they probably send to hundreds of people a day. I’m not an instagram expert so I’m not 100% sure what they are trying to get out of you, but I don’t like the look of it. I think it would be best to ignore it.
WOW, Mary Ann, that's weird. Sounds like there must be some kind of scam in there somewhere, but I don't understand it. I don't think I would respond to her at all. I don't do social media, but is there a way you can block her from sending you any more messages?
I will just wait and see if I get any more. I used to get a lot of emails with regards to marketing but I made a change in my email contact on my website and it eliminated the majority of them. If she persists, I most likely will block somehow :). Thanks.

Sounds like something is not quite right - if you don't have amazing images and a great profile.
Did you check her profile and followers?
Yeah, I did. She has 107,000 followers and is following 6,000+. Instagram is not my forte so I can't say I know a lot about it :).

MaryAnn, I agree with the others and wouldn't bother with this sketchy proposition. If you don't feel comfortable about this.
Remember, this person does not have to ask permission to repost your photos; ANYONE can repost ANYTHING from ANYONE without permission on Instagram. Although it is the right thing to attribute the person you repost from.
If you think this could be of benefit to you, then do the following.....
First ask yourself, is there any reason you would want YOUR content (photos) reposted on this person's profile or in their Instagram Stories? Is there synergy between your content and theirs? Do you think their followers would be interested in your content, where you can gain beneficial exposure from their 100K followers?
If they want to repost it and you think you can benefit, then make sure you tell them to tag you and GIVE YOU CREDIT by mentioning that these photos came from your Instagram account in their caption.
Whatever the case, don't give them any money. It could be highly likely they will be looking for money later. The person with 100K followers will try to leverage their power.
Hello. Yes, that is all true. And this person is in an entirely different niche - the fashion industry!
