About CarolMeador

I grew up in a small farming town in Iowa. I currently live in a mountain cabin with a dog named Leia and a cat named George, close to Smoky Mountain National Park in western North Carolina. I have one son, Colyn, and one grandson, Devon, who live in Ilinois.

I am a retired Occupational Therapist. I have many interests and hobbies, including reading, quilting, singing, and writing. I took ballroom dance classes for about 10 years with my ex-husband, and love to dance.

I really enjoyed "Read to Raven", a reading program with my certified therapy dog, Raven, that I did at libraries in IA, CO, and NC.

I really miss both dancing and pet therapy, but am excited about building my website, and that will keep me out of trouble for the present. Perhaps I'll even meet some other folks in the community who love to dance, who knows?

Oh yes, I believe a word of caution might be in order here...I have a playful side and love to make people laugh. Please don't take it seriously if I have to tease you a bit! Sometimes I just can't help myself!! TeeHee!

UPDATE: 9/10/18

I spent the spring and summer preparing my house for sale, sold it in July, and closed and moved into an apartment in town in August.

It was sad leaving my cozy mountain paradise and having to find a new home for my cat, Bigfoot George, but I know that it was the right decision for me. Leia and I are adjusting to apartment living and I know I'll enjoy this new chapter in my life once I am unpacked and settled into our new home.

With Hurricane Florence bearing down on the East Coast of the US, I am thankful for my more protected environment here and that I will not be alone on the mountain during the storm.

For details about my decision to move and pictures of my wonderful mountain home of nearly 20 years, see my posts " Welcome to Carol's Cascades - My Little Piece of Paradise", "Carol's Cascades Revisited", and "Mountain Mama No More!"

Those are VERY achievable goals, Carol! Starting small and working your way up in time is definitely much more likely to set you up for success than aiming to work <5 hours per week, or aiming for a massive amount of money way too quickly.

If I can help you achieve these goals in any way, please let me know! I'm happy to help however I can.

I'm so glad you liked it. I really didn't see anything that needed to be changed. It looks so professional and polished, yet your text is personal. My website is allballroomdancing.com. Take a peek if you're inclined, and I would welcome your comments. I haven't progressed far enough with the lessons to know how to put images or videos on it yet. Carol

Hi Carol, thanks for the follow, and I am following YOU also! In a mountain cabin, GREAT! Must be peaceful there! We lived for many years on Sproat Lake in Vancouver Island! That was really peaceful too! I briefly worked in North Carolina...really nice there! have a great weekend!! Tom

Welcome to my network, Tom. Yes, it's peaceful, except when limbs fall on my porch roof during hurricanes! Doesn't happen often...only twice in the 20 years I've lived here. Gotta expect it, I guess living in the woods. I was living in FL doing home health from Plantation to Lake Worth. Came here to visit friends on vacation, and something just said, "this is home, ya gotta move here." So, when my son graduated from HS that spring, we moved here. Never looked back, although I would enjoy a good beach fix. Haven't been since I moved her 20 years ago.

Hi Carol,

Living in a cabin near a National Park, couldn't think of a better place to live other than in Australia! Lol.

Is camping allowed in your National Parks, and with pets too?

We are allowed to camp but no pets and a maximum of 2 to 3 nights as a general rule.

Steve

PS Followed you too!

Yes, our NPs have campgrounds. When I was camping in Yellowstone years ago, they had long lines waiting to get in each morning after some campers had checked out. Imagine they have some sort of computerized reservation system nowadays. At the time I was there, they discouraged people from taking pets because the ground squirrels were carrying beubonic plague, and it could be transmitted to pets and then to humans. Not sure about a limited number of days. You Google them and find out the newest rules and regulations. My info is from the 70, so I'm sure it's obsolete, except for the fact that they do allow camping!

If we had to line up for a spot we would turn around and go elsewhere! I personally prefer to camp where there is no others and the group I go camping and touring with also prefer to camp a bit more remote than normal.

It is nothing for us to drive 5 or so hours on a Friday night to camp for a weekend.

Rules do change frequently and we have different rules for different types of Parks. State Parks are more relaxed, Heritage areas are formal and restricted etc.

Quite often we will just find a spot on the edge of a road and setup for the night!
