About CarolMeador
Joined November 2017
I grew up in a small farming town in Iowa. I currently live in a mountain cabin with a dog named Leia and a cat named George, close to Smoky Mountain National Park in western North Carolina. I have one son, Colyn, and one grandson, Devon, who live in Ilinois.

I am a retired Occupational Therapist. I have many interests and hobbies, including reading, quilting, singing, and writing. I took ballroom dance classes for about 10 years with my ex-husband, and love to dance.

I really enjoyed "Read to Raven", a reading program with my certified therapy dog, Raven, that I did at libraries in IA, CO, and NC.

I really miss both dancing and pet therapy, but am excited about building my website, and that will keep me out of trouble for the present. Perhaps I'll even meet some other folks in the community who love to dance, who knows?

Oh yes, I believe a word of caution might be in order here...I have a playful side and love to make people laugh. Please don't take it seriously if I have to tease you a bit! Sometimes I just can't help myself!! TeeHee!

UPDATE: 9/10/18

I spent the spring and summer preparing my house for sale, sold it in July, and closed and moved into an apartment in town in August.

It was sad leaving my cozy mountain paradise and having to find a new home for my cat, Bigfoot George, but I know that it was the right decision for me. Leia and I are adjusting to apartment living and I know I'll enjoy this new chapter in my life once I am unpacked and settled into our new home.

With Hurricane Florence bearing down on the East Coast of the US, I am thankful for my more protected environment here and that I will not be alone on the mountain during the storm.

For details about my decision to move and pictures of my wonderful mountain home of nearly 20 years, see my posts " Welcome to Carol's Cascades - My Little Piece of Paradise", "Carol's Cascades Revisited", and "Mountain Mama No More!"

Hi Joanne. It's nice to meet someone with similar interests. Have you decided on your niche yet? Would be interested to see what you decide to build your site about.

Mine is on ballroom dancing. I really miss having a partner and taking classes. There are always new patterns to learn, no matter how long you take lessons.

I found the adult education classes to meet my needs best because I'm shy and didn't feel uncomfortable around people who were also beginners. We continued on to advanced classes with many of the same friends we made in our beginner's class, and sat together at dances we attended that our dance instructors sponsored to give us a chance to practice our newly learned skills. SO much fun!

Thanks, Carol for following me. I read your stories about your move from your home3. I understand why you moved, but it made me sad for you.
I live in southeastern AZ in the foothills of the Little Rincon Mountains. Here, it isn't snow that causes grief it is the rain and 5 arroyos(washes) between home and town! One never knows if you can get one way or the other and God forbid to get stuck somewhere in the middle!
I shall follow you, also. I will look forward to your posts. Happy Easter!

Hello Andre.

I am puzzled why you chose to send this email to me. Did you send a blast to a lot of members seeking others who are having problems with WA?

I do not mean to belittle your concerns, but my knee jerk reaction to your message was that this is some kind of a spam. Please do not take that as an accusation. It was not meant that way. But since you are new, you probably are not aware that we have had several new members who were spammer/scammers in the past year or so. They don't last long, though.

I am confused about the things you mentioned that were on Carson's wall. Are these issues that are preventing you from being able to log onto your account and work on your training?

If that's the case, you can be sure that Kyle or Carson will take care of the issues as soon as possible. But, please, for your sake, focus on the training and use the community and the help center where you can ask questions instead of spinning your wheels and getting yourself upset about something that might be past history.

WA has been around for about 15 years, and the issues you quoted could have been written, and dealt with, by Carson a long time ago.

As you can imagine, both of our co-founders are very busy, but they WILL get back to you. It's sorta like God answering prayers, though...it's not always in the time frame you want and expect.

I am not very active with my WA business at this time, but that is due to my life circumstances, and not a problem with WA. If you are a premium member, you have access to lots of help. Just click on the purple question mark on the bottom left side of your profile page and ask whatever questions you might have. There's always someone who knows the answer and will be happy to help you.

I noticed on your profile page that both Kyle and Carson had sent you welcome messages. As you can imagine, they are both very busy, but if you click reply on those messages and send them your concerns, they WILL get back to you.

I can tell that you are very anxious about these things you have been reading, and as a newbie you are wondering if WA is yet another money grabbing scam. Many of us WAers have lost money to scams while searching for a way to make money online, and all of us would tell you the same thing: WA is by far the most legitimate program we have ever encountered, and the training is beyond compare.

Maybe clicking on the help center and asking your question the other way around might help assuage your anxiety. Why not try asking the community for comments from people who are making money and loving every minute of it?

Good luck. Rest easy, my friend. WA is legitimate!

Hi Carol, I am a bit concerned about the legitimacy of WA. I have been asking answers for the last couple of days, but nothing??

Hi Carsen, please answer my concerns listed below copied from your wall.

Hi Kyle, I was excited until I started reading the following on Carson's wall, without any response??

1. Hi Carson, I cancelled my membership today, but was also charged $49 today. I have already transferred my websites to another host and will not be using any WA Premium services for the next 30days. Can I please have the refunded? Thank you.
PS I messaged Kyle and he ignored my question completely and gave a generic message to ask me to keep my account. Please assist me truthfully and let's part in good terms
2. Hello Carson,
Why did you choose to ignore your members post without any reasonable response. If you continue this way, you will just discover WA will be a thing of the past because most premium members will surely quit.
So many premium members were logged out automatically without having access to log in and you couldn't find any solution to this effect, even with new members that just upgraded. The domain I brought to WA which i have full copyright ownership on was also disabled. Tons of messages has been sent but you choose to ignore.
Please kindly find solution to this before it gets out of hand.
3. Dear kyle, why all of a sudden am I asked to login but when I put my Login details I still cannot I open my account?
I joined wealthyaffiliate yesterday, paid for premium, contact you several times no response.
4. I created this account temporary because my account which I opened today, paid for premium today was locked out telling "We were unable to find a user account with the credentials provided" after have paid $19, even am already posting comments on people's blog before the issue came up. please is this how wealthyaffiliate treat their users here and is there a solution?details to my locked account is

There are more and surely you will not expect anyone to join WA with these problems and no response?

Congrats on your 53 year marriage. That's quite an accomplishment that not many people achieve in this day and age of easy divorces. I've moved about that many times myself, although I lived in my mountain cabin for 20 years, the longest I've ever lived anywhere. Thanks for following me back. Best wishes for your online success. Hello, Carol and thank you for the follow! I enjoyed reading you "about" here and looking forward to reading some of your blog posts. :)

You're a bit westward of me, I live on the coast of NC. But we're still kinda neighbors! lol

Good luck with everything! And please, give Leia a rub for me. :)

Hi Patty. Yes, I'm in the far western tip of NC...2 hours from GA, TN, and SC. But, you're right. We're sorta neighbors. Which beach do you live close to? I have a friend who moved here from Wilmington a couple years ago.
Reply
PattyMc Premium
Atlantic Beach is probably the closest. Wilmington is directly west of me. I'm not ON the beach, i'm off the coast, a bit inland, out in the country, among farming fields, swamps and rivers. lol Just sayin', I love swamps more than the beach. lol Peaceful living. :)

Sounds like you're nice and central! Foothills or mountains? Both are beautiful to me, but since I have a fear of heights, foothills are my favorite. lolol
Reply
CarolMeador Premium
I don't like heights, either, but lived at 4800 feet elevation for 20 years! It was gorgeous in the woods, with a very cold, very fast creek running around 2 sides of my property. I had an acre and a half and lots of quietude and privacy. But at my age, I needed to get off the mountain. I'm in town now, but it's still rural...horses and a barn next door.
Reply
PattyMc Premium
It's kinda funny, how the older we get, our taste alters a bit. Used to be, I adored those big old historic mansions w/36' ceilings, multiple floors and 20 rooms, with fireplaces in each (because it was so blooming cold) lol Yea, been there and don't do that anymore. lol But we don't go too far from 'home', do we.

In town, but still rural... I bet it's lovely. And if you get to ride those horses next door, i'll be jealous! lol

Hi Carol- I see you are a retired OT! I am a disabled PT, so thought since we had a little in common I'd follow you. I am new and confused but moving forward, but cautiously. I am fearful to commit to premium as living on disability has left me with nothing extra for adventures or LIFE. For now, I will continue to do the best I can.
Reply

Hello. We'll definitely have to keep in touch. Try to relax, and just take the training step by step and you will learn how to build your website. I know what you mean about living on disability, because I had to quit working when I was only 51. But I have found that the $ it costs to go premium is well worth it. I do the annual membership because I think it's cheaper, and you only have to worry about the money once a year.

Hi Carol!

Thanks for following me. I am following you back. I read your article "Mountain Mama No More" and am sorry you had to leave your beloved Mountain Cabin.

I grew up near the Maryland West Virginia line and absolutely love the Appalachian Mountains. I would love to move back to the mountains, but circumstances have me locked in Texas where it's flat, humid and hot. I miss the mountains and the plush greenery.

You are lucky in that you're still just a quick drive to those beautiful mountains when you need to find solace in their beauty and serenity.
Reply
CarolMeador Premium
Thanks so much. Yes, I love the lush green of the mountains as well. Was engaged to a guy from Colorado Springs for awhile, but hated the dry air that made my skin itch, and all the dry brown mountains there. It's almost like high desert. (And I don't like the desert, even though it does have its own kind of beauty.) Of course, if you get over into a different part of Colorado, it's much prettier there. But, like you, I prefer the Appalachians.

By the way, if you grew up near the Appalachians, how do YOU pronounce it?? When I first moved here and heard people talking about the Apple-ah-shuns, I didn't realize they were talking about what we in the Midwest refered to as the Ap-ah-lay-shuns! It's funny, after living here for 20 years, I sort of cringe when I hear people pronouncing it the way I grew up sayingit!

Yes, I am lucky to still live in the Smokies. Waynesville is still in the mountains, the elevation is just lower than on Soco Mountain, where I lived at 4800 feet.

Carol, Rough? Iowa? You know the saying "Wait 5 minutes..." A really nice Nov, Dec and part of Jan but it has hit a few deep freeze spells and a couple snowfalls that weren't really bad until you add in the wind. Huge drifts and some cold cold temps! I live on a gravel road, a small hobby farm and while I love the place...but cold is cold!

N Carolina can be interesting too. Storms from the Atlantic and all but you should be far enough inland to miss the worst. Bet it is beautiful there with the mountains and woodlands.

See what happens when you ask me a question?
Sanders
Reply
CarolMeador Premium
Yes, it is beautiful. We have had a really strange winter. The first snowfall we got 16 inches here, and I would have had at least 2 feet if I was still on the mountain at 4800 feet. The rest of the winter has been cold and windy one or two days, then spring like in the 50s followed by another cold snap. It's supposed to be 17 Wed. BRRR! I don't think Mr. Groundhog knew what he was saying! It's snowing now, but has been in the 50s the past couple days, so doubt if it's gonna stick. But it's only 30 now. (which might be considered a heat wave back in Iowa!)
Reply
SWhitley Premium
30 would be a dream. Currently 5 but feels like -16. More snow and another artic blast headed here this week end. For the groundhog, maybe we should shoot it, have a good dinner and bring in another weather forecaster!

Don't worry, I'm just on a hiatus while I'm getting settled unpacked, and still sorting and downsizing after moving from a house to an apartment that has very little storage. So I'm still getting rid of STUFF! My goal for this year is to finish unpacking/sorting/downsizing in the next month, then will be back in the saddle writing away.

Will be focusing on writing content for my website, so not sure how much time I"ll have left for community blogging.

You are right. Sometimes new chapters in our lives require difficult decisions, but life goes on. I enjoy my new home and especially since this has been such a hard winter with a lot of snow.

The road I used to live on was an old logging road that was not a public road and got no maintenance. That meant that I stayed home until the snow had totally melted.

Melting and refreezing made it icy, and there was a dropoff with no guard rails. Better safe than sorry, I stayed home safe and warm by my wood stove! Happy I don't have all that stress now.

Thanks for following me back, Shannon.

Hi, John. Thanks for following me back. I wouldn't have rehomed Bigfoot George if I had been allowed to keep him. He's a real hoot. His new catmama just told me that she calls her dogs by blowing a whistle. George has seen them come running, and now he comes as well! The building I moved into only allows one pet. And since George is so gregarious and would have been miserable not being able to go outside due to traffic here, I kept my dog, Leia and rehomed him.

Hi, Carol! I came across your profile and had to follow you. I am quiet, but can be funny! Got it from my dad. Everything he said made you laugh even when he thought he was being serious. I do believe that laughter is the best medicine. That keeps us going in tough times when otherwise we may feel defeated.

We did take ballroom dancing and I have always wanted to do pet therapy. When I was a nurse I saw what a difference in attitude I would see when a dog would make an appearance. After I quit nursing, I took my dogs to nursing homes to see patients to brighten their days.

If only I could have known you when we went to Smokey Mountain National Park many years ago. We sat in the park as still as possible as late as it was open hoping to see a bear in the distance. Im sure we would have panicked if we would have seen one though.

Have a blessed day!

Hi, Kathy. So nice to meet you. Thanks for your comments., and for following me. Followed you back. Best wishes for your online success here at WA.

I can't do pet therapy now because I lost my wonderful Raven to cancer in 2014. I rescued Leia about 2 years later, but she is too shy and anxious. I don't see how she could ever pass the certification exam, but our trainer still thinks she might eventually be able to.

I'm pretty sure that Leia had been abused and had not been socialiazed because she is terrified of so many things, including men, the broom, hats, and shopping carts. She's much better than she was when I got her, but still has a long ways to go.

I saw some miracles when I took Raven to the library for our Read to Raven program. The first little boy we worked with was very hyperactive, and had terrible self esteem. One of his teachers had told him he was a "terrible listener", and he was only 6!

The last time I saw him, he was in 4th grade, reading on an 8th grade level, and participated in the county wide spelling bee. I'm an occupational therapist, not a teacher, and we didn't do anything special, except provide a positive atmosphere of acceptance and love where he could practice his reading skills without fear of being made fun of as he was struggling to learn to read. We also had 2 autistic kids who really related to Raven, and a little girl with dyslexia who is now an A student in 9th grade.

Are you still dancing? I really miss it, because I don't have a partner now.

Yes, I wish we had known each other when you were in the National Park. I only lived about 5 miles as the crow flies from there.

Let's keep in touch. I think we will be good friends...we have so much in common.

We have a mildly autistic grandson who is 3 years old. By the time he was 2 1/2 he had been kicked out of at least 2 daycares and put on suspension countless times. He just couldn’t sit down during story time. He had to stand up and wanted to look at the visuals up close. All it would have taken would have been a sprinkling of tolerance, but they were too rigid to meet any needs other than mainstream. He was punished to frustration levels. I wanted to tell my son, “Why don’t y’all leave and never want to go back?”

Certain breeds of dogs can be so soothing by nature, and when trained, they serve immeasurably in so many realms of therapy. Thank you for sharing.

I haven’t danced in ages. I got sick 7 years ago and will probably never dance again. In S. LA you can find dancing just about anywhere you want on Fri and Sat nights.

Talk with you soon in PM!

My grandson is autistic as well. He was kicked out of kindergarten for "violent behavior" aka "meltdown". Was in and out of several schools, but he wasn't diagnosed until he was 12. And his mother refused to allow him to take any medications. At age 16 he was suspended for 3 days for some minor offence, and his mother allowed him to quit school!

Since that time, he has done nothing except play video games. I'm sure he is addicted to them. My son has attempted to help him to get a job, but he refuses, and his mother allows him to do nothing. So glad I don't live any closer than 1200 miles away! My grandson has no future and is receiving no help. Some things just can't be fixed.

Hello Carol;
I saw somewhere that Forbes Magazine said that seventy nine million people will start a home based business by 2025. I guess this means that that the internet has left the infancy stage and now is in its toddler stage. If this is the case it still has a long way to go. Nice meeting you. Thanks for adding me.

Hi Carol and thank you so much for the follow. Also following you in return.

LOVED reading your profile bio, taking note about you needing to leave your mountain cabin . . . why? I don't know how long you have been in your new apartment but hopefully you have settled well, regardless of Hurricane Florence and yes, at least you are not alone on the mountain (very much agree with you on this one).
Reply
CarolMeador Premium
Hi, Petra. I loved my mountain home, as you could tell from my profile. But I was isolated on the mountain in the woods with only a few neighbors, who couldn't see my house from theirs except in the winter when the leaves aren't in the way.

I decided that it would be safer for me to live where there were more people around in case I would fall or get sick. I hated to leave my mountain paradise, but I really like not having all the responsibility of taking care of the yard and house, fixing things that needed work, etc.

It's a new chapter in my life now, and I'm getting settled in, and enjoying the company of my neighbors.

Hi Carol,
I just realized after all of these months following you, that you provided OT and pet therapy in a nursing home for years. I want to thank you for those years of dedication. I am a nursing home administrator so I know how difficult it can be. You have a lovely spirit and I'm sure that made a difference to all of the lives you touched.
Have a wonderful day!

Thank you so much, Heather. I did more in libraries with my Read to Raven program, but did do some select nursing homes as well, especially when I had a choir at one of them. I took Raven with me and did 1:1 visits prior to our rehearsals.

When Raven got older and had cancer, we still did libraries because she loved it so much, but I stopped doing the nursing homes because I didn't want her exposed to anything when her immune system was failing her.

I lost her in 2014 and still miss her and pet therapy so much!

Hi Carol, Thanks for following me. I grew up in Knoxville Tennessee and visited the Smokey Mountains often so am familiar with your homesite. I use to think I would like to have a home there, but since moving here to Tampa Florida have gotten use to the weather and grown to love it here. I have decided to try my hand at opening a web buisness and am anxious to give it a go, I hope that we can become friends and help each other with our businesses along the way. I moved from Boca to NC in 1996. Came here to visit a friend on vacation, and something said, "this is home, ya gotta move here."...so I did after my son graduated from HS.

If I had to go back to FL, I'd want to be on the west coast, too. I worked as a traveling therapist at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton for 3 months, and really liked the people and that side of the state better. Maybe it was because I was only there for a short time, but somehow life seemed calmer over there.

I think WA is so special because we have the opportunity to make friends all over the world, learn from each other, and take advantage of the wonderful training here. I'm looking forward to getting to know you better and working together.

Happy 5th of July (now!) Guess I'd better be heading to bed pretty soon!

Way to GO, Carol. In MY humble opinion, HUMOR is the ONLY way to go through life. If we can laugh during our trials, then tears get confused. Haha

I LOVE to dance! I always have loved it, although the dancing I do, these days, looks a bit more like making a wild effort at just trying to maintain a breathing existence, so folks just don't seem to realize how much fun I'm having, ya' know? Haha

The saying goes that, "If you wanna' accomplish something, you need to follow a busy person."
It looks to me as if I've certainly found that busy person in you.
Please leave footprints so's it will be easier for me to follow, okay? Thanks!

Hello, again. Wondered your opinion about affiliate partnerships. I have joined affiliate networks. Still don't have enough traffic to put links on my site. Right now I am focusing on creating more content. What about joining Amazon or Walmart as an affiliate? Should someone join and become an affiliate, even if they don't have the traffic yet and aren't planning to put any links in yet, but will most likely do so later? Is it all right to join now? Any thoughts?

CarolMeador Premium
Hi, Robert. Just a word to the wise. I got scammed (sold 2 websites) that I knew nothing about. If I wanted tech support, I would have to cough up 2500 more bucks! They had me signed up for Amazon affiliates, but since I never got any sales, they kicked me off. When I asked about being reinstated, they told me not to reapply until after I had 3 sales. So, my advise to you is to hold on to the application and don't apply for membership until you have some traffic to your website. They said I have to have a minimum of 3 sales before I can re-apply. Good luck. Carol

Oh. Thanks for telling me. How do you know how much traffic you are getting? I only have close to a dozen posts. What range are you in?
Reply

I only have 6 or 7 on my website. And no traffic that I know of. I think there's a way to find out about the traffic, but I don't know what it is. You could ask the communiity your question. Go to the bottom of the left hand column on your profile where there is a purple circle with a question mark in it. Click on that and then click on "Ask a question". You'll be amazed at how many people will answer your question. Good luck. Carol

Hi, Robert. I seem to remember having difficulty with something like that, but don't remember details.

I suggest you click on the help center on the left lower corner of your profile and ask the community.

As I recall, I think it might have been Marion Black or Loes that helped me with my situation. They were two of my biggest helpers when I was new, and both are very helpful.

There are others who have also helped me, and if you put your question to the community at large, you will be surprised at how many people respond to help you.

Good luck.

Then I could use what used to be the admin email for the new user email and all was great after that.

Coming down out of the mountains into the heat was a real shocker! It was 119 degrees, and the sidewalk was so hot you could fry an egg on it.

I don't like the heat, scorpions, sand, and very little shade. I think people really love it or hate it, guess which is my vote. OK rant over! I hope you get to go to AZ some day.

I'd rather be in someplace less exteme in temperatures. I love it here in the smokies because at my altitude, it rarely gets above 80 degrees. We do get a lot of snow in the winter.

I've asked on the WA site if anybody can tell me how I can insert the "read more" tags on the bottom of a post, because mine are cut off when I go into my website and it's driving me crazy. Well, haven't got an answer from anybody on that issue. I still need to do a lot of customizing but I don't know when I will be learning about that. Thank you so much, Andrea. My site will be about more than dance shoes, but that is all I've gotten written so far. Eventually it will have clothing, music, jewelry, lessons, and videos, all about dancing. Eventually, I'll branch out to competitive dancing, country and line dancing, and wheelchair dancing, but that's a ways down the road.

I am just about to get to that point in the training. I was an Amazon affiliate with a worthless program that sold me 2 websites, and I didn't even know how to access it to add content,so, of course, they closed my account. Now I have to get some other affiliate programs so I can generate some sales before re-applying.

It is so much fun. That's why the goal of my website is teaching people who want to learn to dance but are too timid or think they have 2 left feet that anyone who wants to can take classes and learn how. (They might not all be good at it, but if they're having fun, who cares??!) I dance for fun, but there are very serious athletes who compete in dancesport. I'll be blogging about that sometime as well.

It's actually my first and middle name put together. Michelle and Anne. I don't really have a preference, but I started my WA using Michelle and my site using Anne so I had to figure out a way to put them together so people don't get confused. So Michelle/Anne was born.

Thank you so much for doing that. We'll start growing our sites together.

Thanks, Hazel. I am not doing as much as I would like to because I'm getting my house ready to sell. When I'm writing I feel like I should be painting, and when I'm painting I feel like I should be writing!

Did you rescue your greyhound from the track? What kind of terrier?

I used to have wire haired fox terriers. They're still my favorite dog, but I've been rescuing black lab mixes my last 2 dogs because black dogs are the last to be adopted and the first to be put down.

I know how you feel about painting the house - we moved about 3 years ago and I still have bad memories of trying to get the old house ready for sale!

Yes Ken was rescued from the track - his owner had taken him to the vets to have him put to sleep as he was no longer winning. Thankfully the vet got him signed over to him rather than put him to sleep.

Dilys is a jack Russell terrier mainly although there is probably something else in there somewhere! Yes black dogs do have a bad time of it don't they - black greyhounds can be difficult to home. Ken isn't black but I would consider one in the future although I would probably consider any dog in need.

Life does definitely get in the way sometimes doesn't it?

Just off to walk the dogs now!

Hi, Hazel.

I used to have wire haired fox terriers. They're still my favorite breed, but I've had black lab mixes that I rescued for my last 2 dogs. (Raven, who was a certified therapy dog, and Leia, who is a certifiable neurotic!

I think it's wonderful that you rescued a poor dog that was going to be put down solely for selfish reasons...I don't see how anyone could do that to a healthy animal! I think that race horses that stop winning are turned into dogfood. Or they used to joke about the glue factory. Not sure if they really made glue out of them or not.

I love where I live, but am in the process of getting my house ready to sell. I hate to leave my wonderful cascading creek right outside my kitchen door (the main reason I bought the place.) But the yard work and upkeep are getting to be too much for me. So it's goodbye to peace and quiet whispering woods and hello to noisy neighbors. Thankfully, several of my friends live in the same complex I'll be moving into.

Hi, Kathleen. Nice to meet you as well.

There's no secret to learning to dance. I was 35 before I ever tried. Was too shy. I took an adult education class in beginning ballroom dance, and it was much easier than I thought it would be.

When you're learning any dance, you start out with the basic step, then as you're comfortable with that, they add new patterns that you add to the basic step. It sounds more complicated than it really is.

f you're serious about learning to dance, check into adult dance classes in your community. Many community centers or junior colleges offer them. Or, if you live in a city and want to take private lessons, there are dance studios that offer classes or private lessons.

I will be writing a post about how to learn to dance in the future. Check back now and then, or if you would like me to, I can send you a PM when I post it. You can find my URL on the bottom right of my profile, under my posts.

In the meantime, "dance like no one is watching". Don't worry if you're a "bad" dancer, just have fun with it!

I already follow you. I have a dog (child) named Dutches. She has so many different looks and actions. She's a Chihuahua and loves everyone. Aren't they the best. Guess that's why their name spells God backward.

I'm sure Dutchess is a sweetheart. I had a Princess once. She was a wire haired fox terrier. The dog I have now is a Pointador...1/2 pointer, 1/2 black lab. She looks like a small lab, except she is more streamlined like a pointer. Her name is Leia. I rescued her when she was about 1 1/2, and she is still shy, but much better. I doubt if she will qualify as a therapy dog like Raven was, though. Don't think she could pass the certification exam because she is shy. But she's a sweet girl anyway.

Aren't they precious. My guy of 14 years was a beautiful white birddog. He passed with two bouts of cancer. He survived the Joplin tornado when the house threw him under the garage debris
He had just had his leg amputated from the first bout of cancer. He is in my heart and mind every day. It took so getting used to having such a small pet. I loved walking with my hand on his back. Oh how I miss that Dutches is sweet but no one replaces Buddy.
Reply
CarolMeador Premium
I know exactly what you mean. Leia is a sweet girl and so devoted to me, but she'll never replace Raven. It will be 4 years in June when I lost her, and I still miss her terribly I especially miss taking her to the library for our Read to Raven pet therapy program. My wire fox terrier, Bristles, had 3 mastectomies before she died of breast cancer in the 80s. That's the rough part of having pets...we outlive them.

Hi Carol,

Living in a cabin near a National Park, couldn't think of a better place to live other than in Australia! Lol.

Is camping allowed in your National Parks, and with pets too?

We are allowed to camp but no pets and a maximum of 2 to 3 nights as a general rule.

Steve

PS Followed you too!
Reply
CarolMeador Premium
Yes, our NPs have campgrounds. When I was camping in Yellowstone years ago, they had long lines waiting to get in each morning after some campers had checked out. Imagine they have some sort of computerized reservation system nowadays. At the time I was there, they discouraged people from taking pets because the ground squirrels were carrying beubonic plague, and it could be transmitted to pets and then to humans. Not sure about a limited number of days. You Google them and find out the newest rules and regulations. My info is from the 70, so I'm sure it's obsolete, except for the fact that they do allow camping!
Reply
SteveCrozza Premium
If we had to line up for a spot we would turn around and go elsewhere! I personally prefer to camp where there is no others and the group I go camping and touring with also prefer to camp a bit more remote than normal.

It is nothing for us to drive 5 or so hours on a Friday night to camp for a weekend.

Rules do change frequently and we have different rules for different types of Parks. State Parks are more relaxed, Heritage areas are formal and restricted etc.

Quite often we will just find a spot on the edge of a road and setup for the night!
