About CarolMeador
Joined November 2017
I grew up in a small farming town in Iowa. I currently live in a mountain cabin with a dog named Leia and a cat named George, close to Smoky Mountain National Park in western North Carolina. I have one son, Colyn, and one grandson, Devon, who live in Ilinois.

I am a retired Occupational Therapist. I have many interests and hobbies, including reading, quilting, singing, and writing. I took ballroom dance classes for about 10 years with my ex-husband, and love to dance.

I really enjoyed "Read to Raven", a reading program with my certified therapy dog, Raven, that I did at libraries in IA, CO, and NC.

I really miss both dancing and pet therapy, but am excited about building my website, and that will keep me out of trouble for the present. Perhaps I'll even meet some other folks in the community who love to dance, who knows?

Oh yes, I believe a word of caution might be in order here...I have a playful side and love to make people laugh. Please don't take it seriously if I have to tease you a bit! Sometimes I just can't help myself!! TeeHee!

Hey, Carol nice to meet you. It sounds like we have several things in common. I also live out in the woods with human family and one furry friend. Ollie, a standard poodle. He does not know he a poodle and spends most of his days with me in the garden or the kids playing on our property. I look forward to getting to know you.

Hi, Sandy. Nice to meet you as well. I know what you mean about Ollie thinking he's human. When I was in college, one of our neighbors in the College Courts had a standard poodle named Scottie. We joked that he was so smart he was studying to be a brain surgeon! Looking forward to getting to know you as well. Carol

Carol, I am so sorry that I did not get back to your questions before now. Lots of transitions going on at the moment. I am in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. I have played Tiptoe Through the Tulips, but I was not as good at it as Tiny Tim. These days I play David Bowie's entire catalogue, with a smattering of tunes from over the last 60 or so years. Thanks for asking. I hoe you and you pets are doing well. Happy Saturday!

No worries. I was just teasing about Tiptoe Through the Tulips because of Tiny Tim. You sound like you're more serious about playing than he was. Sounds like you enjoy it, and that's the important thing. Best wishes for your online success. Carol

Hey Carol just wanted t o stop by to introduce myself, It is nice to hear you are enjoying the program, wanted to wish you the best, I am not very good at dancing but we have a couple of things in common the Smokies are my favorite place and I too live in Illinois,
Where does your son live here in our great state? If you ever need anything please feel free to give a shout VickiG

Hi, Vicki. I wrote you a reply, but it seems to have vanished into the ether somewhere! Oops! Thanks for stopping to introduce yourself. It's very nice to meet you, especially another Midwesterner.

Colyn (my son) lives in Princeton. He works at Ace Hardware Distribution Center. Has been there for about 18 years, I think.
That's longer than I ever worked at any one place. I had a career that was sought after and kept getting job offers from recruiters for more $, so changed jobs several times over the years.

Leia is a pointador that I rescued. She is 1/2 black lab and 1/2 pointer. Black with a white patch on her chest and 4 white feet. All of the white patches have speckles like a pointer, but she looks like a small lab. But I think she's part chicken as well. I rescued her, and she acts like she has been abused. She is terrified of men in hats. I had hoped to train her for pet therapy, but she is too skittish and shy, and I don't think she could ever pass the certification exam.

My website is slowly growing, I wrote three posts so far, but I don't have any pictures yet! I think that will be in the next lesson, I'm only on the 2nd tutorial. I've asked on the WA site if anybody can tell me how I can insert the "read more" tags on the bottom of a post, because mine are cut off when I go into my website and it's driving me crazy. Well, haven't got an answer from anybody on that issue. I still need to do a lot of customizing but I don't know when I will be learning about that. I know I will be going back to work on Monday and then things will go a little bit slower on my side ...

Just wanted to touch base with you. I looked at your website again and it looks really nice! That's a good niche by the way, because I don't think there is a lot of competition for ballroom dancing shoes out there. Have you been able to setup any affiliate programs or any ways to monetize your website?
Andrea
Reply
CarolMeador Premium
Thank you so much, Andrea. My site will be about more than dance shoes, but that is all I've gotten written so far. Eventually it will have clothing, music, jewelry, lessons, and videos, all about dancing. Eventually, I'll branch out to competitive dancing, country and line dancing, and wheelchair dancing, but that's a ways down the road.

I am just about to get to that point in the training. I was an Amazon affiliate with a worthless program that sold me 2 websites, and I didn't even know how to access it to add content,so, of course, they closed my account. Now I have to get some other affiliate programs so I can generate some sales before re-applying.

I will take a look at your website as well, Andrea. Thanks for your comments. Would you mind leaving a comment on my site, and I'll do the same on yours. Thanks. Carol

I'm so happy to connect with you Carol! My husband and I are about to move into our little mountain cabin here in TN (we're still putting in the insulation and sheet rock but have to be out of our rental by the end of April...whee!! lol). We're not in the Smokies, but we aren't very far away, either (Dale Hollow Lake area closer to the Kentucky border). It's such a beautiful area!

I'm so sorry about your sister. I'm sure that was a sad and difficult event (life is lousy sometimes). Hopefully it's all the best and happiest memories that remain now. <3

How funny that I have a "rhyming sibling," too...a brother named Terry. When my mom would call up the stairs in our childhood home for one of us, we could never tell which one of us she wanted! lol
Reply
CarolMeador Premium
Yes, it was sad, but I do have happy memories, and my little sister, who only lives about 3 hours away. We meet 1/2 way for lunch sometimes to get our "sister time" together. She's 8 years younger than me, but we are very close. I still have a letter she wrote to me when I left home and went to college. I had it on my bulletin board in my dorm room. It was so cute. She was only about 10 or 11 then.

Awww...what a sweet story! How nice to have such a close relationship with your sister. In my family, I'm the baby (youngest of six), but no one lives anywhere near me and, unfortunately, most of us have lost touch through the years. I still communicate via emails, texts, and phone calls with one sister (12 years my senior) in CA, but that's as close as it gets. Better than nothing, though. :)

Hello, Carol!

Ballet is, indeed, beautiful, and it also looks very daunting to an old lady like me! There are so many different types of dance, and I'm focusing on ballroom because that's what I know. But I'm planning to expand to country two step, line dance, and wheelchair dancing on my website as I have time to delve into those areas as well. Best wishes for your bucket list ballet! I'm sure you'll do great in it, as it's been a passion of yours. Carol

It is so much fun. That's why the goal of my website is teaching people who want to learn to dance but are too timid or think they have 2 left feet that anyone who wants to can take classes and learn how. (They might not all be good at it, but if they're having fun, who cares??!) I dance for fun, but there are very serious athletes who compete in dancesport. I'll be blogging about that sometime as well.

Did you rescue your greyhound from the track? What kind of terrier?

I used to have wire haired fox terriers. They're still my favorite dog, but I've been rescuing black lab mixes my last 2 dogs because black dogs are the last to be adopted and the first to be put down.

I know how you feel about painting the house - we moved about 3 years ago and I still have bad memories of trying to get the old house ready for sale!

Yes Ken was rescued from the track - his owner had taken him to the vets to have him put to sleep as he was no longer winning. Thankfully the vet got him signed over to him rather than put him to sleep.

Dilys is a jack Russell terrier mainly although there is probably something else in there somewhere! Yes black dogs do have a bad time of it don't they - black greyhounds can be difficult to home. Ken isn't black but I would consider one in the future although I would probably consider any dog in need.

Life does definitely get in the way sometimes doesn't it?

Just off to walk the dogs now!

Hi, Hazel.

I used to have wire haired fox terriers. They're still my favorite breed, but I've had black lab mixes that I rescued for my last 2 dogs. (Raven, who was a certified therapy dog, and Leia, who is a certifiable neurotic!

I think it's wonderful that you rescued a poor dog that was going to be put down solely for selfish reasons...I don't see how anyone could do that to a healthy animal! I think that race horses that stop winning are turned into dogfood. Or they used to joke about the glue factory. Not sure if they really made glue out of them or not.

I love where I live, but am in the process of getting my house ready to sell. I hate to leave my wonderful cascading creek right outside my kitchen door (the main reason I bought the place.) But the yard work and upkeep are getting to be too much for me. So it's goodbye to peace and quiet whispering woods and hello to noisy neighbors. Thankfully, several of my friends live in the same complex I'll be moving into.

Hi, Kathleen. Nice to meet you as well.

There's no secret to learning to dance. I was 35 before I ever tried. Was too shy. I took an adult education class in beginning ballroom dance, and it was much easier than I thought it would be.

When you're learning any dance, you start out with the basic step, then as you're comfortable with that, they add new patterns that you add to the basic step. It sounds more complicated than it really is.

f you're serious about learning to dance, check into adult dance classes in your community. Many community centers or junior colleges offer them. Or, if you live in a city and want to take private lessons, there are dance studios that offer classes or private lessons.

I will be writing a post about how to learn to dance in the future. Check back now and then, or if you would like me to, I can send you a PM when I post it. You can find my URL on the bottom right of my profile, under my posts.

In the meantime, "dance like no one is watching". Don't worry if you're a "bad" dancer, just have fun with it!

I'm sure Dutchess is a sweetheart. I had a Princess once. She was a wire haired fox terrier. The dog I have now is a Pointador...1/2 pointer, 1/2 black lab. She looks like a small lab, except she is more streamlined like a pointer. Her name is Leia. I rescued her when she was about 1 1/2, and she is still shy, but much better. I doubt if she will qualify as a therapy dog like Raven was, though. Don't think she could pass the certification exam because she is shy. But she's a sweet girl anyway.

Aren't they precious. My guy of 14 years was a beautiful white birddog. He passed with two bouts of cancer. He survived the Joplin tornado when the house threw him under the garage debris
He had just had his leg amputated from the first bout of cancer. He is in my heart and mind every day. It took so getting used to having such a small pet. I loved walking with my hand on his back. Oh how I miss that Dutches is sweet but no one replaces Buddy.

I know exactly what you mean. Leia is a sweet girl and so devoted to me, but she'll never replace Raven. It will be 4 years in June when I lost her, and I still miss her terribly I especially miss taking her to the library for our Read to Raven pet therapy program. My wire fox terrier, Bristles, had 3 mastectomies before she died of breast cancer in the 80s. That's the rough part of having pets...we outlive them.

I'm so glad you liked it. I really didn't see anything that needed to be changed. It looks so professional and polished, yet your text is personal. My website is allballroomdancing.com. Take a peek if you're inclined, and I would welcome your comments. I haven't progressed far enough with the lessons to know how to put images or videos on it yet. Carol

Hi Carol, thanks for the follow, and I am following YOU also! In a mountain cabin, GREAT! Must be peaceful there! We lived for many years on Sproat Lake in Vancouver Island! That was really peaceful too! I briefly worked in North Carolina...really nice there! have a great weekend!! Tom

Welcome to my network, Tom. Yes, it's peaceful, except when limbs fall on my porch roof during hurricanes! Doesn't happen often...only twice in the 20 years I've lived here. Gotta expect it, I guess living in the woods. I was living in FL doing home health from Plantation to Lake Worth. Came here to visit friends on vacation, and something just said, "this is home, ya gotta move here." So, when my son graduated from HS that spring, we moved here. Never looked back, although I would enjoy a good beach fix. Haven't been since I moved her 20 years ago.

Hi Carol,

Living in a cabin near a National Park, couldn't think of a better place to live other than in Australia! Lol.

Is camping allowed in your National Parks, and with pets too?

We are allowed to camp but no pets and a maximum of 2 to 3 nights as a general rule.

Steve

PS Followed you too!

Yes, our NPs have campgrounds. When I was camping in Yellowstone years ago, they had long lines waiting to get in each morning after some campers had checked out. Imagine they have some sort of computerized reservation system nowadays. At the time I was there, they discouraged people from taking pets because the ground squirrels were carrying beubonic plague, and it could be transmitted to pets and then to humans. Not sure about a limited number of days. You Google them and find out the newest rules and regulations. My info is from the 70, so I'm sure it's obsolete, except for the fact that they do allow camping!

If we had to line up for a spot we would turn around and go elsewhere! I personally prefer to camp where there is no others and the group I go camping and touring with also prefer to camp a bit more remote than normal.

It is nothing for us to drive 5 or so hours on a Friday night to camp for a weekend.

Rules do change frequently and we have different rules for different types of Parks. State Parks are more relaxed, Heritage areas are formal and restricted etc.

Quite often we will just find a spot on the edge of a road and setup for the night!

Hello Carol,

You have a lot of interests it will not be hard for you to discover new niches. Thank you for taking the time to read my bio --- I also enjoyed reading yours. My mom and her husband were square dancers up until he passed about a year ago in an accident. The dance community were a big help and support to her in her loss. Like family even.

Best of success to you in your new adventure.

Kind regards,

Carl

Hey Carol!

Congratulations on going premium! I hope you find lots of success as a member of this community.

Don't forget to keep up with the 'Entrepreneur Certification' training as it is easy to get distracted from with all the other features you've now unlocked.

If you need any help, I have training also that you might want to take a look at.

Hey Carol, how's everything coming along now that you've been a member for a few days? I hope you've found your way into the "Get Started Here" training toward the top of the menu on the left and that you're enjoying yourself so far!

Some people gravitate towards the "Affiliate Bootcamp" training which is something I don't recommend right off of the bat if you've never made money in internet marketing before. I have a detailed blog post covering this topic if it's something you're wrestling with and you'd like me to send you the link.

I know that may be a bit confusing, but if you have any questions at all don't hesitate to ask! I hope you're enjoying your time here so far :)

I'm lovin' it! Just get frustrated when things looks so easy on the video and don't go as smoothly for me when I try them. (I'm the world's worst technoidiot, but I am getting there slowly but surely. . I am on Lesson 9 of Course 1...figured I'd do all of those courses before I attack the bootcamp. Too much to assimilate them both at once.

Yeah, and the Bootcamp isn't worth digging into. The training there is junk and doesn't set you up for success compared to the OEC training. There was an article about that in my bonuses after you upgraded to premium, in case you didn't see it. I'd highly recommend reading it before even lightly considering Bootcamp.

Thanks for the info, Ian. I appreciate your advice. I haven't had a chance to read any of your emails yet because I was having computer issues, but it seems to be OK now. I had to update my email plan because I was out of data, and it was running terribly slow...just sitting there buffering. Bootcamp was way down on my list of priorities already because I have so much to learn just finishing the first set of lessons, not to mention all the new stuff from premium. Now I'll just ignore it altogether. Thanks for the heads up.

I hope things are going well. I know you are getting rolling within the training and there is ONE thing that always tends to confuse people and that is "what is my niche?".

I know, same thing happened to me when I started.

I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I am here if you ever want to run any niche "ideas" by me or you have any questions about finding your niche.

Get back to me when you get the chance! :)

Thanks for the email. I think things are going great. I got a good start on the training last night. I'm thinking of using ballroom dancing to promote dance shoes, costumes, classes, music, different dances such as Latin, Foxtrot, Swing, Shag (a beach dance from the Carolinas!), Polka, etc. Possible domain names: dancersdelight, ballroombasics, or ballroombillboard. I know it's too early, but is it possible to put a sound track on my website so I can post samples of different rhythms and dance music? I'm excited to get into the meat and potatoes with the next lesson.
Thank you and Carson for all you do for us, and for helping to make the dream of having an internet business a reality for me. I have no doubt that with WA's guidance, I can build a successful business.

Hey Carol! I think that's a great niche idea! I'd be careful about posting soundtracks to your website (mainly due to copyright issues), but if you can find videos on Vimeo or YouTube with the tracks you'd like to share, you should be able to embed them on your site without any worries!
Reply
CarolMeador Premium
Good point about the copyright issues. I imagine I can find Utube tracks of most of the songs I used to dance to. (Don't have a partner now. Really miss it!) I'll need help learning how to transfer them from Utube to my site, but I know that's a ways off yet. Got my site built last night. Name is Ballroom Billboard.
Eager to get started on the content.

I think from what I've read in the community that I can transfer my other 2 sites (on quilting and pet therapy) to WA once I'm Premium. Is that correct? I bought both of the domain names at Accelerated Web, so I don't know who I'd be transferring them from. I'll need help on that issue when I get that far.

I am very impressed with the training and the community and want to go Premium as soon as possible. However, I don't use my personal credit card online, and haven't used my Paypal account in years. Doubt if there's a balance in it. Can I use a prepaid credit card to pay for my first month so I don't have to wait to transfer funds to my PayPal account? Last time I transferred from my bank account, it took several days.
Reply
pribs Premium
Yes, but it'll be pretty tricky to transfer them. If they're not producing at all and they're not significant, it will be worth saving yourself a headache just to let them go.

Unfortunately I'm not sure about prepaid credit cards.

Thanks, Ian. Is it possible to use the domain names that I bought (one is a .net and one a .com) to build new websites for these niches? I paid for 2 years webhosting for each of them. I like the names and would like to use them if possible. If not, I'll just chalk it up to more experience in the School of Hard Knocks of Internet Business!

I'm in the process of transferring funds to my Paypal account, but they said it will take 2 or 3 days. The last time I did that was several years ago, and it took them 10 days! I'm going to go Premium when the funds are there. Don't want to mess with using prepaid card and then having to switch my account to Paypal, since that's the account I plan to use for both payments and receipts. Who do I need to talk to in order to request an extension on the special offer for the first month since my 7 days will be up in 3 days, and I'm not sure the funds will be transferred to my Paypal account by then?

Fortunately it should get automatically extended a couple of days after it cuts off.

Hey Carol! I wanted to start you off with a quick note that could SIGNIFICANTLY impact your success with Wealthy Affiliate. Read this entire message if you are serious about being successful in internet marketing (it's lengthy, but I'm not joking when I say that this advice could make or break your entire internet marketing career):

1) You'll need to work consistently and hard. There's going to be a lot to learn in the beginning and you may feel overwhelmed at a point, but keep pressing forward and you'll make it through. It happened to me and every other successful internet marketer at some point, and the only way to become successful in this industry is to push past that overload whenever you get there.

Do yourself a favor and commit to a number of hours that you can work each week right now. It doesn't have to be massive, but it should be more than 10 between evenings and weekends at least. Just remember the more you work each week, the faster you'll learn and draw closer to success.

After you've picked the number of hours you can work each week, commit to working that much for AT LEAST six months - a year would be better. You won't see results immediately in this industry, and being consistent is the key. Pick a number of hours you can work each week, then work those hours for at least six months. It's something you've probably never done in this industry, and this advice alone will make a HUGE difference in your chances at succeeding with internet marketing as long as you take it seriously and STICK WITH IT.

2) I recommend starting off with this training (which you can access with your free account): It just scratches the surface of the MASSIVE amount of helpful content in WA, but you'll get a good "feel" for the teaching style here and begin to see the power of all of the great things they're teaching here at Wealthy Affiliate.

3) DON'T FORGET ABOUT THE COMMUNITY. Two of the best places you can go to for help when you get stuck are the "Live Chat" and the "Classrooms" sections located on the panel to your left. You'll find direction and inspiration through the community here, which is one of the reasons I recommend WA so highly.

4) Finally, you don't ever have to upgrade to the premium account here at Wealthy Affiliate if you don't want to. You'll have limited access using your free account for as long as you wish. HOWEVER, if you're serious about internet and affiliate marketing then you should invest in the premium membership for AT LEAST one month. You could look back on it years from now and see it as a pivotal moment in your internet marketing career, but you never will if you don't at least give it a try.

Check it out for a few days though - you don't need to upgrade right now. Make sure it's a good fit for you, and if you upgrade within the first 7 days you'll receive your first month's membership at more than 50% off. I keep my membership active and recurring every month so I can be here for the people I refer like you, so realize that I'm putting my money where my mouth is here!

On top of that, if you upgrade to a premium membership at the discounted rate within the first 7 days I have a special bonus EXCLUSIVE to people that join WA through me and upgrade within the first week of creating their free account. This bonus will show you how to be twice as successful with WA or any other legitimate internet marketing program out there and gives you some very valuable video lessons (which I recorded for you personally, of course) to ensure you get off to the right step in your internet marketing business.

I keep a close watch on the list of people that upgrade from starter to premium, so I'll send the bonus your way within 24 hours. If you upgrade and don't receive it within that time frame for some reason, just post on my WA profile and let me know!

I don't offer that bonus so you'll spring for the membership and make me more money, I offer the bonus just in case you needed that tiny "push" to make sure you invest in this training because I know that you will use for the rest of your IM career and it could change your life. I've referred hundreds of people now and I have NEVER had anyone tell me they were dissatisfied.

Best of luck to you! You're about to embark on a journey that could change your life forever, so make sure you take it seriously, put in the time and effort, and expect great things in return!

You know where to find me,
Ian Pribyl

P.S. I know I've thrown A LOT of information your way in this message, but I wanted to give you one last thing. Here is a video tour of the members' area to help ensure you get the most out of your free membership as possible: http://youtu.be/NDmMcMtMB8c

Sorry for sending so much your way at once, I just want to set you up for success as much as I possibly can!
