How Long Does It Take to Make Money with Wealthy Affiliate

This seems to be a recurring question that people ask, coming both from community members and “interested” people. It crops up incomments on the websites.

Answers I have given in the past have ranged from:

“I don’t know.”

“how long is a piece of string?”

“It depends on the knowledge you have / knowledge you learnand how much time you can study and how good a niche you choose and……”

To:

“It will take some time to study the courses and practicewhat you have learnt.”

To:

“How long have you got? And

How much do you want to make?”

The Perfect answer:

I guess there is no perfect answer because it depends on so many factors that I am unaware of.

Even if I knew all the circumstances, I still could not guarantee to give a qualified, reasonable answer.

The genuine answer is: “I do not know, for you.”

My stock answer to a question like this is always "how long is a piece of string". I always qualify this by saying something like, I don't know what your commitment will be, nor do I know how many hours you are going to work.

Derek

Thanks Derek.
This piece of string needs to be made of gold. It has become such an asset in answering impossible questions.
I need it so often that it may wear out.

lol

Derek

I know I see this question a lot. I think you have done a great job of explaining this. It is hard to tell. It depends more on each individual.

Thanks Melissa.
I did wonder about whether to make this a formal question but it is not a technical point and I do not believe there is a perfect answer to it.

Yea I think you handled it right and there is no way to answer there are so many factors that play in.

Thanks Melissa.
I was thinking about a list of influencing factors which I could use as a stock answer.

That could be a really good idea

This is a question which we see often. I strongly believe that, like many of us, "It takes as long as you are willing to work to make it happen". There are a multitude of factors involved, some we control, some we don't. This is my 4th time restarting my studies on WA and I will never quit. Why? Because I do want to succeed. I see all of the great potential. I see all of the fantastic help we can get here at WA. And deep down, I know I will succeed.
Have a wonderful day and the very best to all of us.
Jules

I respect that spirit you have Jules. With that spirit I am positive you are going to make it a success with what you want to accomplish. Thumbs UP!!
I would suggest this time round to implement all the task meticulously, I am positive you are going to see different but positive result.

Hi Joe,
I thank you for your inspiring comments. I am doing exactly what you have indicated ie. "I implement all the tasks meticulously". And I really enjoy what I am doing. Let's keep in touch. I wish you the very best in all os your ventures and also, a wonderful day.
Jules

Thank you Jules.
That determination is also a factor, an important one.
Good luck with your own enterprise. This time round you will make it work.

Hi Joe.
That is one thing I have certainly learned: It is not worth leaving out any part of the training. Do it all and in the order supplied and you will succeed.
It is surprising how many people complain when they have not actually done all the training.

Hi Viyee,
I thank you for your follow and I am following you also. You are so right. Once determined to succeed, all we need is to get it done and work hard. Have a wonderful evening in the UK.
Jules

Thanks Jules.
Now there is a factor that is difficult to quantify:" determination to succeed."
One reason I struggle with answering this question is that to me, it is irrelevant.
I will work until I have what I want; a thriving and sustainable online business / time to enjoy the things I want to do and money enough to help certain other people."

Thanks Viyee,
Determination depends on each individual, based on their own personality and will to succeed. Some people get discouraged easily and others never give up. I can see that you are a person who will never give up until you reach your goal and I classify myself in the same category. Hurry for us.
Have a great evening.
Jules

Thanks for your kind words Jules.
It's motivating. Yes, let's keep in touch.
I follow you.

:)
Joe

Thanks Joe. I am following you. All the best.

I am very new to WA almost 40 days, so I would agree with your "I don't Know?"
Let me take it a step further based on my experience as a man who has worked for more than 35 years without a regular monthly salary. This is very similar in that you get out what you put in, being biblical "You only reap what you sow".
Therefore, I have set myself a minimum of two months to get all the knowledge under my belt before I really speak to the masses.
I have set another two months after the second month to see a trickle of $1's
My Investment would thus be $19 dollars sign up + $49x4=$215 this in South African currency is R2,702.18 (at today's rate).
For a man on a state pension as this is indeed a lot of money, and this is more than my monthly allowance.
But is it worth it? Yes!!
So Give yourself at least 4 months to see some return.

Thanks Trevor.
You have at least attempted to quantify it.
I have also quantified it for myself a few times and looking at the service offered over and above the training, it is really very good value for money.
I totally agree about the level of input. Burning the midnight oil is no stranger to me.
You have also highlighted another important point: "What have you got of income to live off while you build your business?"
that varies a lot between different members.
From experience in other new businesses, I can tell you that a new business that breaks even in 18 months is doing well. However, those were not internet based businesses.
I do think that internet business is something we can put more time and effort into and speed things up. The customers are there and the products to market are there. We are not restricted by retail opening or seasonal changes.
Good luck with your own business Trevor.

The time it takes to navigate Google Hummingbird in some instances!

Hi mike. Yes, probably about as good an answer as we can get.

It all depends on "YOU"

Thanks Gordon.
I appreciate your diplomacy.

Truth is it is in your hands and at the same time it is not in your hands. Hard problem to solve.

Thanks Steven.
It is a problem I come across regularly and I wondered how other members answer that question.
It has become one of the mysteries of life that will probably never be resolved, for me.

Maybe we can give advice in the same way as the rude answer suggestion then tell you we gave you the perfect answer.

With so many variables, good luck getting the perfect answer.

My answer would be: As long as it takes. However, that is not what people want to hear.

Sheila

Thanks Sheila, you have hit the nail on the head. what is it people want to hear and I think most would like to hear that they will be rich tomorrow morning.
A happy medium between brutal honesty and encouragement would be good and that is hard to find.

Hahaha.. I should borrow it-"type rude answers in white on a white background." Brilliant!
As for the question, I think you are right- there are so many factors that you will never know. Normally , the site matures in about half a year,or a year, I guess, but there are stories of quicker progress...:))

Thanks Vera.
I guess that a lot will depend on what a new member already knows. There are people who join already possessing experience and skills in internet marketing. some claim to have a monetised site by their third month. I have no reason to discount this since they already have a head start.

Yep, initial skills and knowledge do matter. In my observation, computer-oriented people really have a head start.:)

There is certainly a lot to learn and some things have surprised me. I mean, there are things I have found, skills that have developed and ideas I would never have had without being here in this community.
I think the fact that experienced internet marketers join , shows that there is value and depth in Wealthy affiliate for all of us.

yep- you are so true on that.:)

Good answer on how to leave a rude answer.

Thanks Jill.
I won't say I haven't been tempted to write a rude comment myself at times.

Myself included there.
