One more reason why WA rocks

WA is awesome, I say it once again.

The lessons that I am learning at WA are so solid that they are applicable to my other business interests. As I was doing some niche research 6 weeks ago I came across a local entrepreneurship incubator program that handholds small businesses from mediocrity to significance. I applied for my wife to support our young construction business.

She had to do a sales challenge as an interview task to qualify for the incubator program. The task was to take R100 ($7) and come up with a business idea that will utilise the R100 to make a profit. Thereafter use the proceeds to invest back into the business and turn it over and see how much can be turned over in 2 - 4 weeks.

We applied the niche identification techniques, customer purchasing cycle and addressing customer needs taught here at WA. We identified 3 possible options and one looked very doable. It was the baking of muffinsthat took the cake.. We identified that premixed muffin packs from the local shop required minimum preparation anda mere 15 minutes to have the product ready.

She went to our neighbors with pamphlets and there was huge interest.

I read Carson's product development tutorial and realized that we had offered the product at a lower than ideal price. We decided to re-brand and expand the product market at the correct price to a new market in a different location - my workplace.

Kyle's Bootcamp lesson on offering bonuses came a little late into this. We could have offered the initial price as a special opening offer to test the market and then moved to the right price at the beginning of October.

Long story short, 3 weeks later she had turned the R100 ($7) investment into a turnover of R2900 ($207), making a profit of R900 ($64), a cool 31% profit. And she got accepted into the subsidized programme. She only has to pay 2% of the program cost (from the muffin proceeds) and also has a chance to get a R250,000 ($18,000) investment at the end of the 6 month program if she excel. Which she will!

We still offer our neighbors at the same old price for the rest of the year as they were our first customers.

Now she is starting to get small bulk orders. This could be a great cash cow side business, or maybe more.

Every wednesday she attends the programme and in every discussion we have, WA techniques always feature prominently in the discussions. I am so happy to have gone annual here as the value is quickly approaching immeasurable.
