No One Tells Me Anything

I've been played and I'm just not sure if it was planned. There seems to be a standing joke within our household. No one tells me anything. That's right, laugh, why don't you. I normally query certain events that just 'pop up' with a "I don't remember you telling me about this" which is inevitably followed by "I'm sure I did, maybe you just didn't hear me" Right there is the 'double whammy' The 'sure' is not a definite but does make one feel as though it should be. Then you have the follow up of me being hard of hearing, so it's all on me. Fine.

Thursdays are marked with the regular visit of 'Smother-in-Law'. Once a week my wife and her Mother get together and 'do' something, it may be breakfast, lunch, a walk or shopping. Occasionally, school not withstanding, one of the offspring will accompany. Joyful extravaganza's ensue.

This morning, unusually, my wife was downstairs early (not daft early, like me) I made a logical assumption and asked if she was going out for breakfast, no, was the reply so I quickly followed up and asked if her mother was still coming round, yes indeed was the response. 'Why up so early then ?' 'Well, we're going to Porthcawl, you can come if you'd like' Now, I'm not one for 'lol's' but you can have one here, even a 'hahaha.' I politely declined. Just let me point out here, Porthcawl is nearly two and half hours away, go figure.

I let the whole 'I don't remember you saying' spiel go. Two of the brood were working, one is away for a week in Pembrokeshire and the other was going on the day trip. That left me on my own. I was not going to pass up that opportunity. Already my head was spinning with the thought of uninterrupted 'peace'. How much work could I achieve ? The possibilities were endless, I was excited.

"Just take those old records off the shelf, I'll sit and listen to 'em by m'self "

So, away they went, 'Happy Teapot' as one of my friends likes to say. First things first, internetty stuff, e-mails, comments, read what needs to be read etc. Now I'll just do a quick tidy up around the house. Shoes put away, pick up various pieces of rubbish, empty crisp packets, dirty plates, half drunk bottles of water, chocolate bar wrappers, the morning after the night before but this is every morning. What's the favourite saying ? "I was going to do it later"

That's all sorted, time for some....Mmm, I suppose I could vacuum, that would make a big difference and maybe I should dust first. That makes more sense. Once round with the duster and then with the hoover. Upstairs and downstairs. Best hang the washing out, make the most of the beautiful weather.

Enough already. You know where this is going, or has gone. The day disappeared. All best intentions laid to waste. I can gloss it up all I want but the truth is, sometimes you have to put your 'wants' to one side and your 'needs' to the fore. The micro-brood will be back this evening and will be welcomed by a clean and tidy house and a 'chilled' spouse who, although maybe not achieving what he set out to do, has had a very satisfying day.

Tomorrow is another day and one that will be full of rich promise. However, for those who have read to the end (thank you) 'Marty' has left the building. He now enjoys life in Finchley and by all accounts, is having a rare time of it. The new owner took his younger sister out for a drive and her words were "This is the coolest car you've had" Some things are just meant to be.

Till the morrow my friends.

Ahhh the family life.
I live alone (with 2 cats, 1 dog, and a male offspring who drops in occasionally to 1-shower and change clothes, 2-leave dirty clothes for me to launder, or 3-pick up / drop off equipment stored in my garage for his construction business. For some unknown reason one or more of these activities are required to occur at 2 am.
I would love to have a more structured schedule but with surprise tasks from said offspring and health issues that are also not on a schedule I often feel like a “weeble-wobble” toy just spinning around in circles.
It’s reassuring to hear how others balance their own lives, thanks for sharing!
KyleAnn

I think we 'weeble-wobble' together KyleAnn. There used to be a toy called 'Weebles' and the tagline or catchphrase was 'Weebles wobble but they don't fall down'
That's us.

Exactly what I remembered!

As long as you enjoyed the day and accomplished something I think you have succeeded. Have you failed in what you wanted to get done - perhaps. But, you still have the enthusiasm to go at it again another day as this post demonstrates.

Kyle recently posted that as long as we fail with no loss of enthusiasm, then we will succeed. I believe this.

I will continue to fail another day.

Alex

That's a great outlook Alex. I am always enthused, what's not to be eager and excited about, it's life.

I assure you, Twack, life never changes when it comes to Time. I've been there, done that.......for some unknown reason I'm still there. Lol !!!

So right you are, Valerie. All I know nowadays, is that the mornings seem to be more productive and I never feel as though I've 'wasted' time.

HaHa!! Your day sounds like one of those days that I occasionally have. Most of the time, I try to get things done that need to be done and end up not getting done.

Not because of lack of trying...but usually, my wife has other plans of things needing to be done. Hmmm, it all works out in the long run.

Have a good evening...

"one of those days that I occasionally have. Most of the time, I try to get things done that need to be done and end up not getting done."
This is a great 'sum up'. It made me laugh even more because I misread the punctuation. I read it as:
'One of those days that I occasionally have, most of the time.'
You are right though, it all balances out in the end. At least the house is clean.
Enjoy your night also Bob.

So much truth in that... LOL!!

.... tee-he-hee >> just another day! ... didn't the Beatles sing a song about that?!

Yes, you're right. Cool song, a Paul McCartney 'single' (Although I read that it was originally recorded and previewed during the Beatles 1969 'Let It Be' sessions. Thank Wiki.
Tomorrow we'll be able to say it was 'Yesterday'

*** love it! .... yes, the Beatles sang it all -- all the messages from the Universe to humanity in all completeness! ... and are we listening and doing the right thing? .... glad you remembered the song titles -->> thanks kindly ... enjoy it all! ... 🎵😊⭐️🎈⭐️

I have had days like that. Thank God for another chance to get things right tomorrow. Besides it sounds like your wife came home to a sparkling clean house. Plus you got this post done and cheered me up at least.
Blessings
Ray

Hello Ray,
I think I like 'tomorrow's' more than 'todays' Something to look forward to, always a blank canvas. I can ask no more than to have cheered you up, that makes my day as well.

Isn't it amazing how fast time can slip away when you are involved with tasks? I read a quote recently: "You cannot manage time. You can only manage activities." How true.

You are so right Fran. Years ago it would have frustrated me, not anymore. Your quote is 'On the money' as I like to say. Tomorrow I will 'set aside' an amount of time of certain 'activities' and try my hardest to stick to them.

It's just one of those 'life got in the way moments.'

Derek

Hi Derek, you're right. It is what it is. Some days we're over productive in other areas, so it all balances out as long as we don't neglect any.

Hahaha! Sorry. I couldn't help it. I know this routine. This week I've change tactics. I want to do some general cleaning in the house, so aside my daily chores I am taking about 15-20 minutes daily to clean an area thoroughly.

Today is Thursday and I've just manage to complete cleaning my bathroom only. That included cleaning the shower drain and filters, wiping down the walls and floor and all other accessories there. So I am ticking this one off my list for now.

That's all we can do, keep ticking the boxes. My list looks like a multiple choice test paper, right at the start of the exam.
Did you tackle the worst first, or is the one that looks the best when done ?

I started at the very end of the house. The least visited place by family and friends, so it needed a little more attention.

I am going to take your lead, I have 'grass' growing between the block paving at the rear, I shall work in half hour slots over the next week. I will apply the same approach to 'work' and maybe, just maybe, more will be accomplished.

That's the spirit.

You still achieved a lot Twack, just in a different field. Well done.

Thank you Linda. Sometimes it's just 'life' stuff, which can't be ignored. Still, dinner for one was easy to prepare.
