Life Throws Us Many Curves, It's What We Do With Them That Matters!

Over the festive season and New Year we were faced with a new challenge that took us all by surprise.

My mother was finding it hard to breathe and she said it felt like there was a heavy bar weighing heavily on her chest. Whenever she walked a few steps or did anything that required minimal energy she found herself out of breath.

Finally it got so bad that we took her to the doctor and he diagnosed Angina, this was the beginning of December 2017. She was admitted to the hospital immediately and all sorts of test were started on her at a government hospital. State of the art equipment, but the expertise to go with it was sorely lacking! An example was, 24 hours AFTER she was admitted they still had the previous patient's name up on the Screen Monitor with my mother's vital signs and history of her heart rate, blood pressure and breathing,

I challenged them on this point and they tried to change it manually, but in the end had to switch off the monitor and turn it back on again with her information on it! Now what happens with the previous 24 hours of data!?! Hmmmmmm!

To make a long story short, they transferred her to a better hospital because they couldn't diagnose what was wrong with my mother.

It was like night and day!

When I phoned the next day they promptly told me that it wasn't Angina, but blood clots on the lungs and that they would have to administer Warfirin to thin the blood to dissolve the clots.

This in turn means that she would have to be constantly monitored to find out if the medication is having the desired effect and that it is indeed dissolving the clots.

Up to know and at the last checkup, the doctor is happy with my mother's progress. We can also that she is on the mend but it is a long road to travel for 6 months.

At times my mother feels much better and at other times she feels nauseous and depleted of energy.

We do our best to encourage her and to keep her moving to keep her muscles moving and to get fresh air outside instead of being cooped up all day in her bedroom.

We are very grateful that she has been spared and that we can still enjoy many more moments with her and that she can be a blessing to others around her.

Your continued prayers and support are much appreciated and I hope to be back interacting within the community and creating more training soon.

Thank you for your patience and understanding through it all!

Much appreciated!
