Love What You Do- Tips for finding your right niche (especially Newbies!!)

I have come across many questions about niche markets and choosing the right one. People are trying to think of a niche that seems obvious to make lots of money, and therefore are sidelining their passions.

I came across a question that basically asked if they should put aside the niche they were passionate about because they thought it would be more tough to generate income compared to another one they weren't as passionate about.

While it is true that some niches may have more options of generating income, this could also mean tougher competition.

I made the mistake of not choosing my true passion for my first site. Yes it was something I valued, but it became too broad, and I started feeling frazzled and running out of original posts. I grabbed a notebook and a pen and started writing tips and notes on finding the right niche (especially for a beginner, which I was.)

Step 1- Write down 3 passions. They could be ones you are very knowledgable in, or ones you wish to learn more in, as long as you are truly passionate about them.

Step 2- Under Each Passion think of some pages and posts you could put on your site. Break those up into 2 categories- ones that you could easily write about basically from the top of your head, or content you may need research a bit, but are excited to learn about.

Step 3- Think of different things you could sell or affiliate on your site

Step 4- Think of something creative and original you could do for each site. Whether it be to market your own product, a rewards program, etc.

Step 5- Choose one. Which one was easiest to come up with ideas for? Don't just choose a list because it is the longest on your page. If you are torn between two, start with one and you can always do a second site down the road.

If you choose a niche because you think you will make money easier then stop right there. Like I mentioned above, chances are it is a tough market, and if you aren't really passionate about it, then posting content and becoming an authority will be difficult.

I can not stress any of this enough. I love my latest site because I focused on my biggest hobby. I have some great ideas and look forward to implementing them. You will be able to shoot out content faster, become more of an authority, enjoy it a lot more, and your creative mind will expand with ideas for ways to generate traffic and money.

I still have a ton to learn her at WA, but one thing I know is the importance of picking the right niche for yourself-it makes everything easier.

Nice post. Valuable message!

Great article,

It is crucial for a person to find a niche that they are passionate about, or at the very least, find somewhat interesting. It is quite difficult for a person to constantly write and write and write about a topic when they have no passion for it.

Being able to connect with a topic is going to keep you going. If you try to write on a topic that is dull to you then you will fold quickly and lose interest.
