I Can’t Figure Out My Niche- All I Want Is Fat Commissions . Really?
Choosing a niche is an important decision that can greatly impact your success and fulfillment in a particular field.
However, many people approach this decision lazily, focusing solely on the potential financial gains rather than considering their passions, interests, and long-term goals.
In this blog post, I’ll delve deeper into the reasons behind this laziness and explain why it is essential to pick a niche based on more than just money.
Why Some People Get Lazy Picking A Niche
When it comes to picking a niche, it's crucial to consider various factors to ensure long-term satisfaction and success.
Unfortunately, many individuals fall into the trap of solely prioritizing financial gain.
That may lead them to make hasty and uninformed decisions that can ultimately hinder their progress and limit their potential.
My Experience: Money Over Passion
I have personally experienced choosing a niche solely for its monetary potential.
When I got my start in the online world, all I thought about was picking a popular niche where I could earn the highest commissions possible.
When I lived in Chicago back then, all I could think about was the nice stuff I could buy with all those high commissions I could earn.
- That nice condo with a view of Lake Michigan
- Driving a fancy car and taking it out on a Sunday afternoon on Lake Shore Drive- Me looking like the wealthiest guy in the city
I know I’m all over in my head, am I not? I feel I was a different person nearly a decade ago.
What I did not see
At first, the allure of quick profits overshadowed the importance of aligning my niche with my passions and interests.
I failed to recognize that true success and fulfillment come from pursuing something that genuinely excites and inspires me.
As time passed, I found myself lacking motivation and struggling to maintain momentum in my chosen field.
The initial excitement from the promise of financial gain faded away, leaving me feeling unfulfilled and disconnected from my work.
It was then that I realized the crucial mistake I had made by neglecting to consider my true passions and interests when selecting my niche.
Three Points to Consider When Picking a Niche
To avoid falling into the trap of lazily picking a niche, it is essential to take a more thoughtful and deliberate approach. Here are three crucial points to consider:
1. Pick a niche based on your interests or hobbies
Reflecting on the activities or subjects that captivated you during your formative years can provide valuable insights into potential niches that align with your passions.
Think back to what brought you joy and excitement as a child.
- Was there something you enjoyed doing, such as playing a sport?
- What childhood memories do you recall make you happy, or wish you could return and relive?
Exploring these childhood interests can help you uncover areas where you can combine your passion with your professional aspirations.
2. Discuss something that you can talk about all day long
Choosing a niche that excites you and sparks your curiosity will make it easier to sustain your enthusiasm and dedication in the long run.
Consider the topics or subjects that you find yourself naturally drawn to.
- What makes you lose track of time?
- What do you find yourself constantly reading or learning about?
- What’s something that you can’t stop bragging about to others?
Identifying these areas can guide you toward a niche that will keep you engaged and motivated, even during challenging times.
3. Focus on choosing a niche you're passionate about
Passion is the fuel that drives success.
By selecting a niche that ignites your passion, you will be more motivated, engaged, and willing to make the necessary effort to excel in your chosen field.
When you are passionate about your niche, your work becomes more than a means to an end.
It becomes a fulfilling and meaningful journey that brings joy and satisfaction to your life.
By considering these points and prioritizing your passions and interests, you’ll be able to pick a niche that not only has the potential for financial gain, but also provides you with a sense of purpose and fulfillment.
Remember, true fulfillment comes from pursuing your passions, not just chasing profits.
Choose a niche based on passion, or make a quick buck?
Choosing a niche based solely on financial gain can lead to a lack of motivation and fulfillment.
Instead, consider your passions, childhood interests, and topics that spark curiosity.
By prioritizing your passions and interests, you can find a niche that brings joy, sustains motivation, and leads to long-term success and satisfaction.
Why not utilize the AI niche finder tool WA came out with earlier this year? It’s an excellent tool for finding a niche you have a genuine interest in.
With the tool, it can help you break down and narrow your niche even further.

Final Words
Picking a niche should not be a lazy or impulsive decision based solely on financial motives.
It's a decision that requires careful consideration, self-reflection, and a deep understanding of your true desires and aspirations.
By taking the time to reflect on your passions and interests, you can choose a niche that aligns with your true self and provides a solid foundation for long-term success and satisfaction.
Remember, when you pursue what truly excites you, success and financial rewards will naturally follow.
So, take the time to pick a niche that resonates with your soul and embark on a fulfilling journey toward a career that you love.
What do you think?
I’d like to hear your thoughts or if you have any questions. Here are some questions to reflect on:
- What challenges have you faced when trying to figure out your niche?
- Have you ever chosen a niche based solely on financial gain? How did that work out for you?
- What are some of your passions or interests that you could potentially turn into a niche?
- Do you believe your passions is more important than chasing profits in the long run?
Feel free to share any thoughts you have in mind.

Sounds good to me!
I changed my niche early on realizing I wasn't into horses since my horse died anymore. So I changed it to survival prepper supply kits, i.e., what I am interested in now :)
Teri
Nice, Teri.
Awesome, that's great to know. There's nothing wrong with changing it in that case.
Thanks for sharing, and all the best to your success ahead :)

Great blog! Unfortunately, I see many new people are here because they're in dire need of funds. This is NOT the place to get quick money. I'm not saying that it won't happen but it's not the norm. WA is a journey and it normally takes time and energy to make money. Your readers want to feel your passion for your topic and not your passion to get into their purse.
Again, well said.

Yes, that's a definite, Debbi. I see that happening too often here, so it's certainly not the right mindset.
Great points- thank you for sharing :)

Yes! Must definite love your niche. I have been on here just over a year and renewed my yearly subscription. My niche is about camping vacation, I write articles about locations where to camp for the most part. I haven't wrote about items that much, very little, mostly about locations where to camp. Had a little trouble recently and dropped my aioseo and have rank math now as a seo. So I went into a slump for a few weeks and am wanting to revamp my niche. I wrote 220 articles last year and was a journey so far. Was an interesting first year to say the least. Still some things to learn and do on. Getting out of a slump isn't simple so must change things around. Best of luck and this next year should be interesting with ai and other things.
Yeah, I hear you.
Picking your niche is a crucial step to building a successful online business.
You need to take the time to know what you enjoy and then turn that passion into a business.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Jeffrey :)

I've seen so many people make bad decisions when choosing a niche. They chase the dollars, assuming that they are good enough writers to write about anything. My favorite was the guy who chose Rolex watches when he'd never worn anything more expensive than a Timex. Think his readers were fooled by his book-report style reviews? He never sold anything.
Choose something you love. You're going to spend far too much time working on your site to be successful with something you don't know deeply and truly are passionate about.
Hello Jeannine,
Yes, that's a good example of the person who did Rolex watches. It shows you who's real or not and who you should trust.
So, picking a niche based on money first is not a good stepping stone. That's why it's best to pick a niche you have passion for.
Thanks for sharing :)

Hey, sunshine.
Do you have a website?
Why do most people hide them here?
Would it not be awesome to promote our work here,?
I am confused

I’m not sure I know who said something to that effect.

When a given cell is involved in learning, it literally grows. The process is not exactly analogous to what happens when one exercises a muscle.

I do have a couple of websites and have for many years. But I'm on WA on behalf of my company, so I have to focus on that and just show my company's information instead.

Hi Paul,
Another thing to remember is that WA is not a place to promote your business or post various affiliate links.
What matters here is this platform is a place for members to share their progress and even pass along best practices to the community. That's what I love about WA the most.
That's a no-no here, so please don't do it. If you need more clarification, I recommend you check this post: Spam is a NO NO! Thank you again :)
