My First Hurdle
Ok, so this is my first blog, Ive been here just over a week and I want to remember the day I hit my first wall. Everything I've done so far has been pretty straight forward but today, Course 2 Lesson 2 I'm now stuck. My problem is producing content for my site, I have no idea where to start or how to start.
Over the years I've come to realise my strengths and weaknesses and one weaknesses I have is communication. I'm really bad at it. I avoid phone calls, I don't do txt, or facebook, twitter etc. Pretty much all forms of communication other than vebal I avoid. This poses a small problem because blogging is all about conecting with a target audience. To be honest if I'd known WA was going to be all about bloging I probably would have turned on my heels and continue my search. But here I am and I have to give it a good shot.

Martin, just scrible little notes down on items that you think about during the day. when you're relaxed, sit down and think of all that you could say about the scrapnotes. work from there and build your blogs.
Ron.
My content ideas come in spurts. It's like writer's block. Unfortunately, I always get inspired when I'm nowhere near a computer, or at work and CAN'T update. I try to keep some kind of cloud-based notes program(either on my phone or computer) to keep track of different thoughts. Even starting an email draft can help.
I haven't until WA, done FB, twitter or text, but I expect I will. I expect you will as well. Do you know when? When you're good an ready. Just take it one day at a time, one lesson at a time. The community will get you over this hurdle and the next hurdle and all the hurdles to come.
They're Hurdles not Walls, you will get over them. You wouldn't let your daughter get stopped by a little hurdle, now would you. ;^)
Go tell her that you're going to give up over Twitter... Bwahahaha
Excellent Suggestion!!!!
I am TOTALLY with kleblanc13, Why? I am disabled with Traumatic Brain Injury, which left me semi paralyzed on the right side of my body. Therefore typing is no easy task for me, through Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), I had the priveledge of using Vocational Rehab and my counselor (now my brother in Christ, we both attend the same church) uses Dragon both at work and in our churches Childrens Ministry to help format the lessons we use as teachers to the children . He is also disabled and in a wheelchair (I'm not certain of the extent of his disability) but I know he has a deformed right hand, I believe he's paralyzed from head to toe & he introduced me to Dragon. Dragon is made by Nuance Software, which most smartphones, Tablets or any other Technolgy hardware that can turn your speech into text uses. I went through graduate school using Dragon to write ALL of my papers over the last 2.5 years working on my Masters Degree in Education, if you know anything about graduate school, you know it invoIves MASSIVE writting! I'm getting ready to upgrade to their latest version for $99 bucks as a valued customer for 8 years. Come on man don't let a trivial (I say that with sincere compassion and understanding how something like this may place fear in you) matter that you have the ABILITY to take control of, stop you! You've come too far to turn back now, YOU CAN AND YOU WILL FIND A WAY OVER THIS BUMP IN THE ROAD!
Please hang in there, if not for anything else but for that sweet precious little girl your holding onto & I'm sure looks up to you!
boy this is a mind full i consider myself at 57 too old to get a job outside the home so i continue to work inside but you give me courage to maybe try it
Also, at Tiger Direct they have a rebate that makes it free, think the promotion ends Sept 30th. So now is a great time to get it if you want to try it. (I'm not an affiliate, I just love a great deal). It's $49.99 + shipping then you submit two rebate forms but it's easy enough.
maryhollis,
NEVER count yourself out of the game. I have a 76 year old mother who just received her Doctrate of Ministry in 2012! She pastored for nearly 40 years & was forced, to retire physically, due to a stroke on Jan. 24, 2013. So I K NOW first hand, if there is something in this life (you only get 1 shot) you desire to do, GO FOR IT!!! Check out my profile for more details. Glad I could be of Encouragement (that's my Heartfelt desire, to encourage & inspire others).
Love God & Love Others and YOU cannot FAIL!!!!! :-)
That's exactly what I was going to suggest too! You said verbal was your best form of communication Martin, so just talk and record and let technology do it's thang!
From one fellow Brit to another! :D
Need to write something about your niche. I am not a writer and I just write what I would say to someone. What is your niche.
That is what I do...just what Carla is talking about, just write down anything. It doesn't matter at this point if it makes sense or not. Take a break and come back and make some sense out of it.
What are you uncomfortable with? The actual writing? You don't say what your niche is. If must be something you're knowledgeable about, right? Pull up a blank writing screen and then just start scribbling down things about your post, even if they seem like non-related facts. When you get a page or two down, stop. Go back and see if you can string some of your thoughts together. By trial and error, you can come up with a good post this way. Facebook, Twittter, etc. are social media for promoting your writings, but you need a blog to attract affiliate action. If I'm not on the right track, please clarify. Good Luck!

You can totally do the writing, it's just uncomfortable at first. I am struggling with the same thing.
Everyone already said this but it works and I do it-note down a sentence, idea or word when you are calm and not stressed. I learned that for me personally, it's easier to write in small pieces, rather than sitting down at the computer or paper and pen, and trying to write an article or post straight through from beginning to end.
Don't think too much about it, just write with feelings-that might help. Kyle and Carson have said that you don't need to be a great writer to succeed. You just need to be able to connect/communicate with people, and you can do that.
