So Excited, So Confused!
I was SO EXCITED to find that one of my posts from my little, third website is a featured snippet on Bing! I have had dozens of featured snippets on Google and Bing with my first two websites in the pet and health niches but I don't think I had one for this site before. It is in the competitive, work-from-home niche.
It was at position three when I took this image but now it is fluctuating each day between positions 1 and 2. I'll take it!! What makes this so amazing is that I had not touched this site for a year and had not added a post in 2 YEARS until last week! There are three posts from this site that have been in the top featured snippet positions this week!
I had a plan when I started this site to just get something up and then let it age. I guess "aging" is definitly a real thing! Even if you can't put a ton of time in to a site now, it doesn't hurt to get it started so when you pick it back up it will have a boost in the rankings.
While this is so amazing I am also frustrated that the new post I wrote for that site last week is not getting indexed on Bing! Isn't that ironic? I add a new post and get into the top of the search results but that new post isn't even indexed? The posts that reached #1, #2 and #3 were all posts I wrote a couple years ago.
I think I did everything the same for the new post so I don't know why it isn't getting indexed. I have tried turning plugins off and on, adding new plugins for indexing, checking the errors in Bing Webmaster Tools, trying to fix little things but I still don't know what is preventing the new post from getting indexed. I has been indexed by Google! So what is up with Bing this time?
It says I am missing Alt text for my featured image but I have checked and double checked and triple checked and the Alt text is there if I look in the Media Library and also when I look at the fields for the featured image.
This world is so confusing!
I hope you are all doing well!
Jessica

It is different between themes and software.
But can you not go to the Library, click on the photo and add the alt text there (if it doesn´t work, as sometimes happens when you are editing it at the start)?
If I have a problem, I can do it that way, just need to remember to click on the arrow, for example, to the right, and then back again to see if it is ok.
I did that and it is there but Bing Webmaster Tools says it is not there. I tried editing it and saving it again but still not showing up on Bing.
So frustrating.
I understand that! Sorry, this is the method with my software, so I don´t know how to do it in your case. Ask for support is something I would do.
Apparently this happens with Bing according to Andre here. If it an issue with Bing I probably can't do much about it. I still suspect it has something to do with plugins or conflicting settings however.

firstly well done on the snippet Jessica.
As for the Alt Text part, I have had the same issues at times saying no Alt Text is there but it is.
This is always with Bing so not sure what the algorithms are doing but that needs to get sorted out by them.
Other times they are correct so it is indeed confusing to say the least.
However, you are still doing great work so keep going forward.

Thanks Andre! I appreciate the validation that this might just be a Bing thing!
You are welcome Jessica it does baffle me at times when I check the post and there is nothing wrong then again even Google gets things wrong too and Bing is no different.
Nothing is perfect all we can do is what is needed and continue forward.
Enjoy the rest of your week
