Finding Health Answers Slowly but Surely

Since May when my ankle started swelling up I have been severly limited but I hope the end is finally in sight! I have not been able to wear socks this whole time or regular shoes! Thank goodness it has been summer and I can live in sandals. The equally difficult problem is burning hot feet which I have figured out is caused by erythromalalgia which is a rare condition where the valves controling blood flow don't work properly and you end up with too much blood flow. This causes crazy heat sensitivity from a shower, shoes, socks, blankets on the bed...anything. This causes a sever sunburned look and cold is the only thing that helps.

Ironically, I also have the opposite condition, Raynaud's syndrome. This causes cold sensitivity and my feet (and sometimes hands) can very quickly turn white and purple due to lack of blood flow. It seems counterintuitive but many people actually have both of these conditions! Basically the valves controlling blood flow don't work correctly either way. So, we are both cold and heat sensitive!

So I have edema causing swelling as well as this blood flow/temperature sensitivity at the same time. It has been an interesting summer!

I have finally figured out what all this is so now I can start to find ways to treat it. Yes, I have gone to my doctor who has no idea and is referring me to a rheumatologist. The prescription treatments for these conditions are sorely lacking. My doctor told me "the treatment you need likely doens't exist yet". She understands I will not take random, dangerous drugs and agrees I need a diagnosis but should continue to find my own natural treatments.

I have done a lot of research and found some supplements that seem to be helping. I am just a few days into this stage so I am still not sure but the horse chestnut supplement seems to be working well! It helps venious insufficiency which causes the swelling and the erythromalalgia and Reynaud's I think...still learning about all of this!

It always amazes me when I find a natural vitamin, mineral or supplement that quickly treats whatever problem I have even when doctors tell me there is no treatment or the only modern options have potentially deadly side effects! This knowledge of natural medicine seems to be a dying field though it is so important! It got me thinking, maybe that is the field I should be in. How could thousands of years of knowledge be so easily erased in a matter of a century? It is a tragedy as millions of people are suffering and dying when they could be easily treated. Modern medicine is great at life saving emergency surgery and many other treatments, but this older, more comprehensive medicine should not be forgotten. Just like most heart disease is caused by nutrient deficiency (magnesium etc), cancers, diabetes and most common health problems can also be prevented or treated with basic vitamins, minerals and supplements.

I hope I have time to start adding onto my nutrient website soon.

For now, I just added another post to my cat site today. I am doing much better at staying active on that.

Onward and Upward!

Jessica

David

Yes, I have been down that path for many years. I am sensitive to eggs, milk, sugar, coffee, cocoa, celery, yeast, wheat, pecans, etc. etc! I am finding the root cause of these sensitivities though and things like zinc etc. help. I have histamine problems so eating those foods causes a release of histamine. If I can control that then the foods aren't such a big deal. I am learning how to get to the root of the problem.

Hi Jessica
Have you tried Cashew nuts which are high in zinc .Plus legumes chickpeas lentils and beans also high in zinc
Women are much better than men coping with diet s .we tend to cheat
Regards
David

Hi Jessica
Just a suggestion have you tried oriental massage
David

I have tried Chinese medicine and regular massage but no, I have not tried Oriental massage. Thanks David.

Hi Jessica!
So sorry to hear you’ve been suffering with this situation.
I agree that “modern” medicine is ill equipped to handle many of our ailments due to the fact they’ve been trained to rely on big pharmaceutical companies for all the answers. I believe that for every ailment we’ve been provided a natural treatment but not enough investigation has been done into those when a company can manufacture something in their lab and make big money.
Sending healing thoughts your way.
KyleAnn

Thank you very much Kyle Ann! I appreciate your thoughts.

Well done on seemingly getting answers Jessica. I agree with you that modern medicine is overlooking tradition medications that have worked perfectly well for generations.

Derek

Thanks Derek. It seems to be a forgotten realm so it is pretty interesting. I don't know anyone personally who knows about all this so I always sharing and answering questions as I learn. Magnesium, zinc, potassium, Vit D etc. have been amazingly effective for my other problems and those of my family who have tried them.

Glad you are getting answers if not yet, great relief you are half way there.
Blessings

Thank you.

You are quite welcome

Good afternoon Jessica,

This could very well be your personal quest because of your condition finding the right treatments and then putting it out to the world through your website.
I have changed my morning routine, warm water, lemon juice, half teaspoon of Himalayan salt, and now also a teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate.
I see a lot of natural remedies on Pinterest, am trying out quite a few of them, not bad!

Greetings from the south of Spain, Taetske

Thanks Taetske. Yes. that is how I have felt for years now. That is why I started Nutrient Cures. Each time something like this happens to me it reinforces this feeling! The doctors are not much help!

Yes, I understand, it is to try and see if it helps. At least you do not put chemicals in your body which would make your conditions only worse. All the best, Taetske

Ha ha. Yes, that is correct. I was referring to my website though https://nutrientcures.com!

I understand now, will have a look.

Adios, Taetske

Oops, I put www in my web link! Just https! It is corrected now.
Thanks!

Sorry to hear you're still having so many problems, Jessica.

I've been offline because my Hughesnet at the house is on the fritz, and it's scheduled to be cut off 8/29. After spending over 2 hours on the phone unsuccessfully attempting to fix it with their service support person, I told them since it's not working, and I haven't been able to use it, they should just turn it off now, but they won't do that. GRR!

The new internet service at my new apartment is installed, but not hooked up to my old desktop computer. I have Wifi, but my computer is old and not made for that. So still in limbo on that one. Will call my computer repair guy for his advice on Monday.

Hope to get the last few loads (and my clothes!) out of the house today or tomorrow, then will be getting it ready for walk through and closing on 8/31.

This has been a long, drawn out experience, and I will be glad to be rid of the responsibility so I can focus on unpacking and finding things. THEN I can have the time to get back to work on WA in earnest.

Hope you're feeling better soon. Keep exploring your natural alternatives!

Carol

I am glad you are almost done Carol! I am sure you will be glad to focus on your website after that!

Yes, I certainly will. I am pretty sick and tired of having all my time and energy taken up with the house and move.

Bless you, in your conditions and solutions Jessica!

Thank you Mike.

Best of luck as you continue on your search! Whatever the problem is, it's maddening! And I know about Reynauds as well. It's a bear! Have you tested for other autoimmune problems? Please continue to let us know how you are doing. :)

Yes, I have been tested and don't have the common markers for RA or Lupus etc. You can still have them without the genetic markers however and I will have further testing.

Thank you!

If you haven't been tested for the MTHFR gene mutation, I would suggest you have that done as well. I don't know too much about it, except that it can cause or exacerbate about every problem you can think of, ranging from depression to diabetes to obesity! I have the mutation on both sides, which means both parents also have it. It is the inability to properly absorb folic acid.

I have heard of it. I have talked to one of my doctors about getting tested for it. Thank you!

So do you supplement with folic acid or folate?

Always methylated folate. The mutation makes it so that you cannot absorb folic acid. I haven't asked yet, but I'm curious to know if we should be taking other methylated supplements, as well. I don't understand what being 'methylated' really means. :)

I take something else that is methylated I think...I don't remember which one though!

I read up on all this after seeing your comment here and saw that folate is required vs. folic acid. I wonder if I need that too! I will be getting the test to see.

I hope you find some suitable treatment Jessica, Best Alan

Thank you, I think I am.
