They Say Product Review is an Actionable Strategy

You’ve got a blog up and running. Congratulations!! Now, let’s see what all you have done.

  • You’re in love with your niche. It’s an evergreen niche. Great.
  • You had selected a brandable domain name. Good.
  • Your theme was selected after a lot of research, after going through many reviews and you totally love it. Excellent.
  • You have decided that it’s going to be a blogroll and not a static page on your home page. That’s okay. Some people say a static page is better. But the default WordPress setting with your latest posts in a reverse chronological order is also good.
  • The site identity elements – logo, header image, favicon are all in place.
  • You have decided that your blog will have a sidebar on the right and not a full-width layout without a sidebar. That’s okay. There’s an article by Neil Patel who says a sidebar on the right converts better than on the left. We never thought of it, did we?
  • You have placed your different widgets, your bio snippet, and the mail opt-in form in your sidebar. Cool.
  • You are updating your blog with new posts regularly – more than 6 per month. You can do better, but still that’s a good frequency, I think. All your articles are more than 1000 words. There are some with even more than 3000 words. Excellent.
  • You religiously share your content on the social media – Google+, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, and there are some engagements even. Cool.
  • You are doing a thorough keyword research for all your content and the titles. You are neat with the description in the snippets and all the images have alt tags too. You are consistent with your writing voice and you make sure that your articles are not long-winded ramblings but are relevant to your niche. Some of your articles are ranked on page 1 of Google and Bing on certain long-tailed keywords.
  • You have added your site to Google Analytics and Google Search Console and all your posts go through the same “on-page SEO” routine. You have even registered your site in the Bing Webmaster Tool.
  • You invite for comments and you make sure that there are at least 4 comments on all your posts. You make a conscious effort to engage with your readers through your replies.
  • The inward linking is done, there are videos too within the articles. Cool.
  • The call-to-actions (texts, banners) are at strategic places and there’s a conscious effort to not make them overwhelming. Good.

BUT WHERE IS THE TRAFFIC?!! Your blog is more than 6 months old and you have been consistent with your efforts, yet the traffic diversion to your site is not happening as envisioned.

I think you need to WAIT. Now, there’s that four-letter word I’m beginning to hate so much. WAIT. I think looking at the summary described above, you will be hitting the purple patch pretty soon. You’re just about there. Hang in there. But there seems to be one very important element missing. DID YOU WRITE PRODUCT REVIEWS?

If your answer is a sheepish, uncomfortable NO, then I think you need to work on that. I have seen that most successful blogs have a huge number of product reviews. Am I wrong? Hey, they say Instagram is an amazing tool to build up your audience. I don’t know.

There are still many missing links. And so, the learning continues. Amen.

Thanks for sharing. I really like the bullet list I tagged your blog. This list would be great in a training format.

Yes...it's never ending. I like your bullet list...it is a good checklist of what we need to accomplish. I am saving it.

Hi Sukumarth, jolly good post, thanks for reminding me about product reviews, I think that is a good idea.
Cheers Jae ☼

Yes, bring them on. Lots of product reviews, let's write.

Great summary Sukumarth!!! Well done. This is something a lot of the newbies and more seasoned people need to be reminded of, the word "wait"

Affiliate marketing is also a test of your patience :)

Everything well stated and will help me as I move on. Thanks for sharing.

Hey Sukumar, great article! I have this bookmarked.

I have some reviews written... certainly not enough. Jay's webinar last Friday, June 22, is excellent and has given me much clarity and I got wonderful help from Trish (triblu) I'm not WAITING... I'm writing a review now and decided I'm going to write lots of reviews. I agree the successful people here are writing tons of reviews.

Monica

I always love Jay's webinars. Problem is, his live programme is scheduled at a very odd time in my place. So, most of the time, even if I attend, I'm unable to watch the whole of it live because I have to rush to my office and I cannot stay glued on my computer even if I want to. Hence, I have to watch the recordings only. There are a few webinars of his that have been backlogged.

I understand... sometimes I miss the live webinars and so I watch the replays.

Traffic!! is a word that we do not talk about publicly...lol....haha.. What you said at the bottom is another truth though, reviews are all a rage now that if you are not doing it then you need to jump on and start cranking it out there!... but, isn't that just following the crowd??.. you have to be creative though about it...hmm

Hahaha...right. Traffic, and specially when it's non-existent should not be revealed else your "authority" is at stake :) It seems writing lots of product reviews (of course, they have to be products in your niche) for conversion and good traffic is a time-tested formula.

very true...well I better start sharpening my pencil and get to it then!!..lol...wishing you well

Very informative post, Sukumar. Do you get more traffic to your product reviews than to other posts on your site?

Thanks for reading the post, Beate. It's more of a soliloquy post :) I'm speaking to myself as I had not done product reviews. I need to be doing that. That's one from my checklist that's missing on my site and I have decided to work on writing some product reviews.

Thank you for sharing, Great article.

Thanks for reading!
