How To Build a Squeeze Page in Wordpress

Building a landing page is not as hard as it may seem. I use Wordpress to build ALL my websites, so that's what I recommend.

The first thing I want to say is that a landing page is actually any page on your website where a visitor first "lands on". So a landing page can come in a number of different forms - a blog post, your home page, a contact form...anything.

A squeeze page is a simple page on your website designed to do one thing - get leads (ie. collect email addresses).

The first thing you will need is an offer your target market can't refuse - whether that's a video series, a free email course, an ebook, or even a physical product. You need to come up with something of GREAT VALUE to GIVE AWAY. If your freebie isn't any good, people will not buy from you - and that's the bottom line.

CREATING THE SQUEEZE PAGE

The first way you can do this is to use plugins in Wordpress. There are a number of plugins you can use, but here are just a couple that I like if you want to go this route:

  • Optimize Press (Yes, it's a complete theme but it has a squeeze page/sales page creator built in)
  • 60 Second Sales Pages (plugin that is a sales page and squeeze page creator)

The other way you could create a squeeze page is to code it yourself inside the Wordpress editor.

This can get a little bit tricky based on the theme you are using, but it's not impossible. If you absolutely can't spend the $30 or $97 it costs for the plugins above, I suggest you learn a little code.

First, you would have to create a page in wordpress that has no sidebars. This is usually easy enough since most themes come with a page template that has no sidebars.

Then, you would need to create your copy for the page including image and the like. Then, you would need to go and build a web form to get your signups (whether that be aweber, mailchimp, etc.) You would add the form to only that specific page, and the code for that would look something like this:

[Ooops, idk how I can add code to this, so I had to leave it out]

The div area is where you can float your form to the left or right.

That's all there is to it, really. If you don't want to show you header or your menu, there is also some simple code for that which you can lookup with a Google Search.

Any questions let me know!

Hello! I heard about landing page but I thought it was pages that you set up when you actually run an ad campaign... Is there any other way to get people to land on a squeeze page?

Yes. Offline marketing. I have dropped leaflets and put posters up on notice boards and it has driven traffic to my landing pages.

Thanks Pauric for this great advice. I am so focused on online marketing those days that I nearly forgot there were other medias available

hey do you know how to work with OPlite

Is there any training on here of the steps that need to be taken? I want to set a squeeze page but not quite sure how to. I am Ok with doing the page. But not sure how to use the form for them to sign up that would take them to the offer.

Thankx for your suggestions. I am trying to build my web pages on a very tight budget so I have no more room for signing up for plugins.
