Hello,

I want to create a container that is not rectangular (around 560px widthX85px height) but that looks more like a wave and insert pics into it but I don't know how t

Looks time consuming Coco, using HTML.
Guessing you don't want to buy the mirror. It is not very easy to do, but doable. Suggest you contact a fiverr, com designer if you don't want to ask "Old Mule". He doesn't bite. You can tell him flutterby sent you and Mark the tennis banner guy. LOL. ^_~

Haha, I'm already consuming a LOT of time with very basic stuff at the moment so I'll keep it simple and contact those guys when I know a little more about everything.. I don't want to go to fast :) Thank you

Hey coco.I would put your idea to "Old Mule" he created my tennis banner for my website and did it for nothing. He made a great Job of it and it took a couple of days,If you decided to contact him tell him Mark the guy with the tennis website sent you.He is extremely helpful and very accommodating,if anyone can do this for you it will be him.

Thanks. I won't bother him for that kind of stuff as it's not even for my own website... I'll just keep it simple for now and stick to basics. It will be good practice for me anyway since I'm just a newbie in the internet world :)

Don't want to put a damper on your idea - but honestly is it really worth the effort? (This comment comes from somebody who loves visual things) I just worry that you will spend sometime doing it when you could actually spend the time creating content. However, if you want to do it - I would sign up for Lynda.com (which you can do for five days free) and do one of their short courses on gimp which will cover things like that. :) Beverley

Thanks for the reference, I'll sure do that when I have more time. For now, I'll just use a photo gallery and not worry too much about it. It's not that important and definitely not worth the effort as I'm already spending a lot of time on very simple things :)

Hello,

I am trying to upload a pic (850x200) in my library but it seems like the picture uploads but doesn't show. Instead of the image, I get an icon that looks like a br

I agree with Fred Chong all the best

Have found this to happen when an author marks the file so the image cannot be uploaded when the image is exclusively purchased. There are so many available images out there, maybe looking for another one would be a good idea. ^_~

The file path could be wrong. Can you upload it to your media library in your website program? If so then it should work.

That is strange unless there is something corrupt with code to do with image, if you cannot get a resolve on here try live chat and see if anyone there can help

If it is not a image file size problem, then it could be your file format issue if it does not show up - check the extension of your image file if it is different from what is working. Usual ext. are jpg, gif, png, bmp...

You may choose your facebook image: http://goo.gl/sCibAl

This means that the file path is wrong try uploading the file from your computer to your post so the file path is correct
Up load the file again to your library then it should display in your post

Barry

My first thought is that it is either a size problem or perhaps a type of file. If you would like to email it to me at catherinecatherineford.com I will try and upload it as a test. Then I will get back to you.

It could be the size is too big or the wrong sort of file, for I am sure there are only three image sizes unless you customize it

Well, another pic is 960x330 and is working perfectly fine... and all pics are jpg...

Hello,

I wanted to create a menu with a category as part of the main menu items and pages as submenus but apparently it doesn't work. Is it because of my theme or is it al

Yep, that's what I ended up doing in the end :). Thanks for all the options you offered. Very much appreciated

You can definitely add categories to the menu, so that's fine. As for adding drop-down's below it, you do it in the custom menu area like this: http://take.ms/xEelA

Yeah that's exactly what I did, but for some reasons it's not working :(

does that theme support drop-downs?

Well I guess so because the rest of the menu works as a drop down but the parent page becomes locked and can't be clicked anymore.
I've never seen that before and can't find any settings to change it.

Hmm...ok try this. Instead of adding the category, add it as a custom link..use this URL http://yourdomain.com/category/category-name

Try it that way. Might just work

Nearly there! It did work, my pages are listed as submenus of the category, but I cannot click the category anymore...just like every main item on this menu that has a drop down list...

ok then I would say it's probably a theme problem.

what you could do is just have the category "parent" there as a label instead, and add the category in as a sub-menu as well, like the first item. Generally with submenus I don't like to have the parent clickable anyway, as it's a bit fiddly.

Check your widgets as well, make sure that the 'Category' widget is on the sidebar, then choose/click either as drop down or hierarchy form.

The Categories are working fine. I thought I could assign categories as "parents" for pages in the header menu but apparently not. Thank you anyway, I checked the widget area just in case ;)

It looks like every pages I assign as a parent can't be clicked anymore. That must be a theme feature. It doesn't work in other browsers either.

As far as I know, you should be able to name your main menu anything you like and do the same with submenus. It may be theme dependent, but I have not heard of this. In fact, I have heard it suggested.

Weird, I'm having a lot of issues with this menu actually... For exemple, I have my about page as 1 of the menu item and I have 2 pages as submenus of this item.. When I go on the website, I cannot click the about page anymore but I can click the 2 listed underneath...

Strange indeed. There is a way to make this happen on purpose with hash tags, but have never seen it happen on it's own!
What is the URL and I will see if it opens for me.

Hello,

I am working for someone that owns a few website basically promoting the same service. How can I avoid duplicate content when the content is just a list of equipmen

Great! I'll do that. Thanks Corey, I appreciate the effort . Explanation is very clear, I did learn a few tricks thanks to you. You didn't waste your time :)

Thank you Coline :D - I really appreciate that.

You can do a screenshot and load it as a png file. Google can only read the description of the photo and not penalize you for duplicate content.

Basically what I just spent the last couple of minutes writing out, lol, oh brother I need a WA break this is doing my head in...

Insert the list and prices as an image and then use the alt tags in the image to hold the list and prices. However the alt tags could still get hit as duplicate content if another site is doing the same thing. In which case just use keywords you want to get ranked for in the alt tag, description, title etc. Try and have some content somewhere you would want to get ranked for and just let the image speak for itself on the landing page.

Make sense?

If you are trying to compete with other pages that have already been online for a long time with just the same keywords you will never get ranking anyway. Google holds history (age) quite high in its algorithm. My suggestion is going to give you about as good a chance as any. Best idea would then be to write blog posts related to the page and have anchor text linking into the landing page within your own site.

Hope this helps.

Here is a link to someone else that had the same problem as you a few days ago:

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/authoring-writing-content/does-google-punish-duplicate-content-between-posts-on-site/comment/1873060

If you have a look at my reply you can see me explain it there. It might make more sense when I explained it that time, or not, lol. I thought I would just add it in for you to read what I am trying to explain here for a similar situation. ;)

Thank you Sean :D

Ok in this case I wont be a good helper with SEO, But I would suspect you probably could be penalized for duplications.
Not sure if this will work as a solution:
Exclude this page from Indexing and try to get ranking by blogs and other methods and just have link to that page now and then

I would suggest to stay away from the list, do a category, Called list of equipment. then do small blogs about each of the equipment with your personal review ideas or any information to make it more or less unique. When blog is ready assign it to this category. Then go to menu settings and select this category to be shown on menu, so when people click on this menu item, they will see page with many blogs and images

Unfortnately I can't do that... the client is a diving school and they jst want to list the material included in the price of the course.. The idea is good though, I'll use it for my own, and I'll suggest them to blog about it as well... Any other idea?
Do you think changing the order of the list or insert it in a table would help? That would change the page design instead of the content but could it work in term of duplicate content?
