I hope I put this in the right place. I feel that Squidoo has to do with Social Engagement and Marketing. I know a lot of people use it to begin with and to also test out markets.

It just doesn't seem humanly possible to update 420 lenses in one day. If it it only took him 2 minutes per lens, that's 14 hours per day! And it has to take more than 2 minutes to update a lens. Something doesn't seem right about this.

If he has help it is possible. Also, I don't know what it takes to update a lense there. I spend approximately 12 to 15 hours a day on my IM businesses that I have right now. But, that is not in Squidoo. I have not really started using it yet.

Seems it is going through growing pains over there. I can not even mention my niche, it is banned there. :(

I don't use Squidoo but I was thinking about it. Really for just pointing to my websites.

make sure you read the TOS very carefully, then understand you must make the articles completely natural. My theory is they are really not interested anymore in outside links and are really all about sales from within. They have an extensive interaction with Amazon and the likes. Also, check the topics they do not allow anymore. Good luck!

I have looked at so many thousands of websites and they each have their own unique aspects to them. Someone has a bright and flowery site and that is okay. Someone else has a black

I believe the way of the future is with responsive themes - they will work well on phones, ipads, computers etc. More and more people are going to be using these devices so it's better to focus on them now. That means simple, clean and easy to navigate is essential.

After that, you need to consider what your niche is and who your target audience is. Different colours and designs are attractive to men than women, but also depending on age. Someone in the professions will prefer a completely different theme to an eco hippie or a teenager.

If you really aren't sure, check out as many websites as you can that also target your same audience. They don't have to be in the same niche as you, but definitely looking at the same target audience. If you see the same colour being repeated, take note of that. Also fonts, fonts sizes, overall layout etc.

it does not matter where you get your web. your set up should be word press and as far as the color of a web is up to you. you can take a blank paper and make it look like it belongs to wal-mart
i am here if you need help. the main thing is your niche. like a eye opener.what will it take for people to open that web site--good Luck Mike

There are no dumb questions here in WA. I have been here 2 years and when it comes to learning this downloading a website is also new to me too!

Forgive me for being dumb, but I have a question. If I go to a website and pay for a theme, how do I incorporate it into WordPress when I'm creating my site?

Once you have purchased your theme you then need to download it to your computer. Once you have done that, log into your Wordpress dashboard. Go to Appearance>Themes. The top two tabs are Manage Themes and Install Themes. Click on install themes and then click on the "upload" link. Browse and then find your downloaded theme file "something.zip" and then click install now.

That is the simplest way but my experience is that it doesn't always work because the theme is too large and the connection times out.

If that is the case then there should be instructions included with the theme on how to install it. If so, follow the instructions. The more complicated themes I have seen require you to unzip them on your local computer then upload the files with an FTP client such as FileZilla.

@Baclaran Thank you for responding to @Kathy1952. I do appreciate that because I did not know how to download the theme. I put up this discussion to see if I may want to download the Thesis theme that Jay always talks about. So, thank you so much again for answering this for me and everybody else that it might help.

Hey there! If you look at Baclaran's reply he gives a good idea of what needs to be done. Thank you for reply to my discussion.

Glad to help. You may also take a look at WooTheme's Canvas theme. It is truly versatile and configurable and very easy to learn how to use.

Thanks so much, for your detailed explanation, Baclaran! I really, really appreciate the help!

Thanks so much for your encouragement, Sherion! How amazing is the help I get here at WA?!

First i would go to namecheap and buy your domain and after you set it up. go back into weathly affiliate and buld your web. weathly affiliate knows right away when you set yours up at namecheap -good luck if you need more help . get back

Free themes - Weaver. You can do a lot of modifications without knowing CSS. It's all point and click. It can be made to do just about anything without knowing much about wordpress.

Thank you for your reply! Adding more to the list all the time.

Hi Sherion,
I used Arras, its free. While checking all themes i saw most downloads and theme which can best suit to the site

Thank you for your reply.

I just finished my theme page on my website about how to build a website with wordpress, I also used Jaaxy to get a a lot of keywords and worked in as many as I could it was fun trying to fit in a few of the unorthodox ones but I got them in and made since with them that was the fun part.

What theme did you use? Did you buy it or was it a free theme?

no free one on wordpress it is platform by pageline

Here are my favourites:

* Thesis (diythemes.com)
* YooThemes (yootheme.com)

Here is why I like these two..

* Premium support
* Diversity
* Several widget positions
* Premade Styles
* Awesome code structure

BTW, these themes are paid themes.

I personally do not use free themes for the exact reasons you mentioned above. At the end of the day, you need to trust your theme to work for you.

Thanks Jay. These are some more worth checking into.

Hi Sherion,

You can read these posts about choosing a good WordPress theme:
http://www.tripwiremagazine.com/2011/09/finding-best-wordpress-theme.html
http://onlinemoneyearning.springbrett.net/wordpress-themes-free/
http://themeshaper.com/2012/02/17/find-best-wordpress-themes/

The big list of themes on WA is great. But you still need something specific, try these. When I had Host Gator as my web host, there was a link in their cpanel to a theme site which gave away themes for 1 USD each. I think it was http://www.templatesold.com

As for my blog, I searched and tried a lot of themes but I wanted some simple theme. I went first with PageLines theme (actually it's a framework, not just a theme), but then moved to their other theme called Platform because there were some options I had no control for, in the free version of Pagelines. Platform had many options even in the free version. The paid version has a lot more, but for now the free version is great. I even could select from a lot of web safe fonts for my blog, in the Platform settings.

Anyway, the theme you choose also depends on what your blog is about, and you know this already.

Woo Themes are also nice, though they are paid ones, as Baciaran mentioned.

Raspal

Wow! Thank you so much for all this information. This does help a lot. :)

Hopefully, this will help others too in picking out themes.

Thanks again!

I like Canvas by WooThemes and Nimble from themeforest. Both are responsive and extremely flexible.They are not free but worth the money IMO.

Okay. Thanks for your reply.

Actually I was thinking about picking up Canvas, it stuck me as a very clean looking theme with good functionality. It kind of puts a focus on the content and not distracting!

When I have someone go through my site and they go through my link and then come into WA then does WA follow up with emails? If that is the case and they decide to come in at a la

If they decide not to signup and don't give any information, then WA doesn't have their email address to send any email to, and WA doesn't send any email without their permission and the user joining and activating their account.

In case of GoDaddy (domain registrar), I've noticed that once I had used an affiliate link and later whenever I went directly to godaddy.com, they would automatically add that affiliate link to my address bar.

That's why I said that it might be possible for WA to set cookies on the person's computer and when they later come back and signup, it might be possible that you get the credit even if they just go directly to WA. Still some senior members would comment on this better.

Hi Sherion,

I think, If people use your affiliate link to come to WA and if they join WA with the free membership option, they surely have to click on the email they receive from WA to activate their membership. And once this is done, they've joined. And can come back later to WA at anytime. I also think that only if a free member stays on WA for more than a week, then you get the USD 1 credit to your account. I read about this just yesterday.

And, if someone just clicks through your affiliate link and doesn't join WA, there wouldn't be any credit. Later if they come back and join, may be the WA system recognizes the IP address and redirects to your affiliate link. i'm not sure on this one so some experienced member would give this reply.

Hope this helps,
Raspal

Thanks for your reply. I understand the part about when they are here in WA. What I was wondering is if they decide not to do anything at that time and then if WA has their email address and is sending them emails then later on they decide to join then who gets the credit? Like maybe at first they decided not to join or even sign up then came back at a later date through the email sign up that WA has. I may not be explaining it right.

If they originally came to WA via your link and don't subsequently come from another members affiliate link you will get the credit.
