Help your Bounce Rate On Your Website Using Affiliate Links

Helpful tip on how do to effect your bounce rate from an affiliate link is to make sure that the affiliate link pops open a new tab instead of closing your site and going to the affiliates.

In some forms this is easy just by checking a box but if you have an affiliate link on your side bar or footer then the check box is not there unless you made a custom widget.

Normally we use a standard widget and insert the code directly from the affiliate' site to get the image if used and the text for the side bar or footer text widget.

In this case to be able to open a new session and not close your website there is only one small change.

What to replace:

Normally the text code will appear with a target="_top" somewhere after your affiliate ID and before the affiliate's site to open,

I have put an example of this below:

What to replace it with:

In order to open an in a separate screen and not close your site, all you have to change is the target="_top" to

then press save after the change.

The way my example looks when finished is like so:

Note: I put them in bold text to highlight what to change in your code, your code does not need to be in bold text.

It is very important to test your widget after and change so you should visit your site and test the function of this link, it should now open into a new screen and not close your site.

This should help your bounce rate in some cases because as you know we sometimes click on things that we didn't mean to and instead of the user having to use the back button, your site is still up so all they do is close the affiliate's link that opened.

I hope this helps out with your bounce rate, it helped mine go from 15% to 2.3%.
