Help on specific location niches?

Hi All,

Hope you are having a great day!

As you know, I live in the UAE (Dubai, to be specific!)

My niche, as you probably also know, is the internet safety market for parents.

I am a member of quite a few mum's groups over here, both physically and also on Facebook. I know my market here in the UAE and I probably would get some support here. I could also see some offline activities i.e. building a course that might even be presented in the schools, that would only work here because it's my physical location. And I am trying to move away from too much physically needing to be in a work location so... (that's a double edged sword)

Still, I notice some topics that would be only Dubai-related and products that would also be Dubai-related. One such thing is I found a club that teaches children about coding here in the UAE. I want to interview the lady who runs it, but I am worried about alienating my international readers.

At the moment, a lot of my traffic is from the US (although I am guessing that is mainly WA readers), UK (probably mostly through family and friends) UAE (also mostly through friends I would imagine) and bizarrely (and for no reason that I can fathom) Russia!!!!?

Now there are a number of options:

1) I could just write blogs related to UAE issues within my normal blog roll, with a UAE category and also do wider stories and see what happens?

2) I could create a separate page on my website for specific Dubai/UAE issues - "Savvy Surfing in the UAE"??

3) I could create a separate website which is a .ae address but then I would need to build that site too and it would have to be completely unique so this might cause some confusion if I wanted them to read my other articles (a lot of which are relevant!)

4) Ignore the UAE market and just stick to the global market

5) OR .... something I haven't thought of yet???

Would appreciate some comments from you all on what you think? What would be the pros and cons of each point or is there something I have missed - some easier way to do it!

Hi Sarah... me also from Dubai. I am checking on your blogs to get some good ideas. Hope to connect with you.

Sarah, I have not expertise for the questions you have asked. I just think it is interesting to learn about different countries, from people who actually live their lives there. I am sure you will find some helpful answers here-
Sami

Thanks Sami. Sorry for a late response. Some of my emails have been making it into my junk mail for some reason!!

So many possibilities, I guess sometimes a local and smaller market is good if you know you will get the traffic. It's is interesting to see where our hits come from. It always amazes to try a imagine some person Uzbekistan is reading my words.

That is true...! Thanks for the advice!!

Hi Sarah,
With your above options listed, the number 2 seems to make the most sense.
Simple to implement and you can (perhaps) link some of the same info. to your other pages / blog information.

Wish you all the success! Tom :)

Thanks Tom for giving your opinion.

I'd add a page specifically for UAE then you won't have to build a brand new website. It could become the resource for worldwide advice with pages specific to lots of countries :)

Hmm nice idea!! :)

On thinking further about the sub-domain, you might have to ask WA i.e. Carson to raise the sub-domain for you, they will just need what the prefix is called.

Oh that's an idea I hadn't thought of!! Thank you! Sarah

I think there are basically two options:
1/. Add a page just for Dubai, the only down side is the language problem.
2/. Raise a sub-domain on your existing domain and then you do not need to buy any additional domains.

This would then appear as
http://U.A.E.(OR DUBAI).yourdomainname.com

It would leave you with normal global domain that you could do in english and the sub-domain in arabic.

You could then cross link them in a noticable way so that visitors could move between the sites.

I blocked traffic from Russia as it was skewing the analytics (spambots). I agree with Katie, a page specifically for UAE. :)

Thanks Kathy - I'll work on the Russia traffic. I really appreciate you giving me that info!

And great to hear your opinion!

you could just put a individual page for around Dubai and still be global... I have the same thing going on with Russia tried to filter it on google analytics as it is making my bounce rate high but would not work and still no word from google.. best of luck with it all

Interesting about Russia!!! Hmm!! Yes, I still have my google language as Arabic (because of my location) and there is no way to change it and no answer from Google either. They are not so hot in answering!!

Thanks for your thoughts on the advice I asked!! Really appreciated! :)

no they are not been waiting for 2 months for a reply lol hope it all goes well
