Call me a dumb blonde, but I could not understand how to get a domain name on there? There were so many options and high prices. I bought a domain name from GoDaddy and it was
Jus stick with the .com, and if you buy from namecheap it will come with free privacy.
But after you buy it, you still have to change the DNS to point to WA. How to change it depends on where you buy it from. Have you bought it already?
Thanks Nathaniel, but no I didn't buy it yet because I've been out of town. I will this afternoon. I will stick with the .com and hopefully they will have my name I want.
thats my problem, I have purchased my domain but dont know how to point it to WA. I have the codes copied and ready to paste them... but where?
When you're seeing those high prices, they are names that people have registered and are trying to sell for an exorbitant amount of money or they are trying to auction it off to the highest bidder. The advice everyone has posted is great.
Don"t feel bad. My first domain name wasn"t that good ,so I had to buy another one a few days later. The advice that you were given on the price was right. I paid around $10.75 for a year. Somebody thats charging around a $1,000, they own the domain name. When you go to name cheap, pick a domain name that you like and then type it in and they will tell you withih a few seconds whether you can use that name or if its taken Hope this helps
In my experience most "dumb blondes" aren't really blonde.
I'm not blonde, I'm now grey and I find that I don't comprehend as well as I feel I should, with a first reading. What works for me, when all else fails is to Go Back And Read The Instructions. Eventually, it sinks in.
If it's a domain name that costs $1000 it's a domain someone already owns and they want you to buy it from them. Don't do that.
Better to pick a new domain name and buy your own for around $10-12/ year
Hi Roxanne! -
It's a good job you didn't visit GoDaddy then - that site is soo confusing - because of all the up- sells.
Name cheap is very straight forward.
I am surprised you had trouble understanding the site!
Totally agree with you that it is very irritating and confusing to navigate through GoDaddy because of all the Up-sells. In fact, practically everything has an upgrade option.
You have obviously typed in the domain name that you want into the search bar on the home page and the list that comes up are your options to buy. The high prices (prob .com) are probably an indication of a good name, try looking at a .org alternative. Then just clicked the basket to the right. Most are around the $11/year range.
I would only look for a .com, .org or .net. That is ALL you need to buy.
And I wouldn't pay more than $12 (give or take a few cents).

I bought a domain name from GoDaddy before I found WA. Now I want to build a website after I go premium. Will I be able to use my GoDaddy domain name that I bought from them?
Buying and hosting domains are two different things.
WA will host your domain for free, but you still need to buy a domain name. So the answer is YES, you can definitely keep your domain from Godaddy, and you can host it here on WA.
Yes you can definitely use the domain name you bought! You bring the domain name and WA will teach you how to point it to their servers for hosting.
