First of all, just what is Insomnia?

Well, I’m fairly sure that most people have suffered from it at some time in their lives where whatever they seem to do; they just can’t get to sleep.

I’m certain that they would all love to know how to cure Insomnia? Serious cases often have to resort to visiting specialists in sleep disorders and may have to be monitored in a special sleep clinic.

On the other hand many of us are only occasionally concerned by it, usually caused by worry… about the job, money, children etc. and if this is the case that you are only suffering sleepless nights during these times of stress, then maybe a juicing diet could help you to cure those sleepless nights?

We often find that as we get older we tend to get up in the middle of the night more often which is quite normal as we age apparently. However, as always, I will be totally honest and say that my wife and I regularly have 8 & half to 9 hours sleep every night.

Now that we have been juicing for quite some considerable time, we often go right through the night without stirring once!

What are the effects of insomnia?

If we are overweight, this can have an effect on our sleep patterns as being overweight hinders with certain areas of our body which control the burning of fats etc.

Sleepless nights also make us very tetchy throughout the waking day and can affect our ability to do whatever work we are doing properly, either in the home or away. It can also govern the effectiveness of our brains during these times.

It is quite well known that our overall health can be seriously affected by continual sleepless nights and it is wise to seek medical help if this is the case

So what causes Insomnia?

It can vary from night to night with differing reasons causing the same sleepless nights. Even worrying about whether you are going to get to sleep or not in itself can be a cause!

The list can be quite extensive as to what causes these sleepless nights and as previously mentioned, most causes seem to revolve around money worries or concerns about current employment or the lack of it.

What to do to make an improvement

First of all, try to have some idea of what it is that is causing you not to sleep properly, then attempt to overcome whatever the cause may be.

In dealing with insomnia, try to identify the causes of your problem and eliminate it or reduce it where possible.

Try to avoid anything which may stimulate the brain i.e. caffeine drinks such as tea and coffee. Apparently also eating fatty foods such as cheese just before going to bed can possibly cause you sleepless nights. Try cutting out the foods or drinks which you think maybe causing the problem for a week or two and see if there is any beneficial effect? Also try to avoid having a large meal before going to bed.

Strongly consider… will juicing help me?

Well we can only speak from personal experience added to all the comments we get from our lists of converts!

Try to have a juice before bedtime made from natural sugars such as peas and beans which we have found to have a great effect. You can always add honey or a little yoghurt to alter the taste to your liking.

Throughout the day, try to replace a meal with a juice which includes green vegetables such a spinach or kale and also include some nuts. Don’t worry if you wear dentures as the nuts are pulverised during the juicing process

Thank for the great article, Roger! By the way, I finally got myself a juicer the other day, and it's just so great to have! Wonder why I didn't get one sooner...

I've also read that any exercise done in the evenings should be done at least one hour before bedtime.

Awesome article! Yes, just eating right can be a huge factor in your sleep patterns. If you are overweight and have sleep apnea, losing the weight can possibly resolve the sleep apnea. There's also the fact that certain foods can cause allergies, and thereby inhibit your breathing at night and cause a restless sleep. And hormone fluctuations can also be alleviated with eating right (sometimes moreso than taking medication). Aches and pains can many times be alleviated by getting more nutrients from fruits and vegetables too. I'm all for the clean diet! I'm working on it myself and I'm starting to lose weight and feel much better!

Roger you have good insight to a common problem and diet can have a lot to do with it.I usually sleep well but lately it has been shorter
Due to more on my mind and a better quality diet.

I agree that worries and not being able to turn the wheels off can cause sleepless nights. Thankfully for me that's not very often.

Have a great rest of the weekend,

Marty

Great post Roger,
Love your idea of spinach and nuts
with some yogurt.
Thanks again my friend.

Loved this Roger. I have been plagued with sleep issues most of my adult life and the ideas that you pose certainly beat the solution that experts that talk about, "sleep hygiene".

Good article, Roger. Yes, I think age creates some degree of sleep problems. I go through periods when I wake up too early. But I never have trouble going to sleep. Never thought of juicing in the evening......I'll give it a try, maybe a mild protein mix w/ Kale.

I will try juicing, to see if it helps me when I cannot sleep.
Thanks for sharing .

Now, this is what I called useful, like it ;)

Very interesting Roger - I will have to try it out. Thank you.
