Targeted Keywords For Your Home Business Niche

Hello Folks

Finding the right keywords or keyword phrase can be quite difficult and this is especially so for a particular niche. Even more so for a particular aspect or product in that niche.

Most marketers use the tried and tested google adwords for inspiration or use a keyword tool.

With Google Adwords, the better option is to bid on a more substantial number of sub-par or niche keywords. Employing the proper tools available for finding the necessary keyword data like the searches done, the google bids, and many others definitely helps to a very great extent. They are the steps you are going to take towards improved traffic and sales.

Whether it's a home based business or an internet business opportunity you need traffic to your site to get a sale. We have all heard of sales auctions haven't we? The top bidder takes home the money. In an auction, the bid price will depend on the perceived value of the product on offer, the quantity of bidders present as well as the paying benefits of the customers present.

Within a Pay Per Click campaign for adwords, the same rules apply. It's the law of supply and demand that in the end governs it all. The keywords that fetch the most traffic are also going to be the most expensive. Keywords like 'work from home' and 'internet home business' are costly due to the large number of searches being done about them. So what do you do if you need to bid on one of these keywords? The answer is simple. There are two options to achieve your goal.

  1. Bid on them and ensure that no one outbids you. You must also take care of all the negative keywords that you will have to churn out. This means you filter all the irrelevant search phrases being done of which they are a part. They are probably going to be costlier too! And if you bid low on them, you’re never going to be seen.
  2. Bid on a larger number of mediocre or lower traffic keywords that cost far less, (they could be a lot more targeted by the way). Bid on nothing less than 200 or 300 keywords like that. The total traffic should add up to something substantial.

So how do you determine the traffic potential of these keywords?

Well, you have many keyword tools that can help you with this. Some of them are:

and WA's own

and the free one

You just have to feed in a generic term like 'home business' or 'internet business' and it will give you related terms being searched for. Then you can go in for more advanced searches for each of them. This is very helpful. You will get a lot of data on the number of searches done the last month for each of those keywords. Also the number of results returned, and the number of Google campaigns for each and the Google bids(maximum bids) and so on. This is very useful information that will help you in narrowing down the right keywords to promote your home business or internet business opportunity.

Once identified, optimize your home business website to include these words. It would help to a great extent if you can try and get backlinks to your site from other sites with these keywords in the anchor text. Get as many as possible like this. This should improve your ranking in Google if done right.

If after that, you can now go ahead and run a Google adwords PPC campaign on these keywords with your ad title and content optimized for these words. Don't forget to include the H Tags and Title. You should start to see results and traffic to your site.

Remember that Google adwords campaigns have to be improved over time through continuous trial and error. Start off with 2 or 3 ads for related keyword groups and then compare and contrast while Google rotates these ads for you.

If you feel that a keyword is not suited for one ad, cut and paste it to the other one or delete it if it’s useless. You can also write an entirely new relevant ad that accommodates it and continue testing. This is a sure fire way to boost your click through rates.

Ultimately you should end up with one ad that has all the right ingredients. It takes time, but once you get it right, it’s going to make you money. You can also expand to other search engines like Yahoo or Bing maximize your returns. One more tip. Don't forget long tail keywords. Statistics show that a 5 word keyword has proven to get the most click throughs.

There you go people. If you haven't yet tried Google Adwords then perhaps its time you did. As I'm a UK resident I will give the UK Adwords site but its easy enough to access the program wherever you live in the world.

Have a great day and leave any tips or advice for your fellow members if you have been or are currently using Google Adwords or running a PPC campaign.

Hello Robert, thank you for the great information! I do run a Google Adwords campaign, so I do know a little bit about the subject, but at the same time, I'm still learning so your information is very useful! I do find the Google tends to add words that are particularly relevant, so it is very important not to pay for these irrelevant words. Overall the Google Adwords campaign works well for me for my off-line business.

All the best to you Robert, Roy.

I don't use adwords myself very much as I have lots of keyword tools to choose from.
Each to his or her own though and if it works for you then stick with it.
Enjoy your day.
