How To Use The Keyword Tag To Best Effect
Increase Your Rank With The Keyword Meta Tag
Hi Folks
Some of the newer members seem to have a lot of questions about Tags to use on their websites, namely the Keyword Tag.
The most common questions is should they use it. In my humble opinion the answer is an emphatic YES.
I know that there will be a lot of the more experienced members who will say its not really necessary because most of the search engines do not use the keywords meta tag.
However many search engines still use it and that is why you should as well. There are more search engines than Google out there folks, and depending on where you live in the world there is sure to be a local search engine that you can use for local marketing purposes. Therefore in my humble opinion the answer is a definite YES. Use the Tag.
This is mainly because the keywords meta tag is a good place to include words that you want indexed for when you haven't used those same keywords within your article.
Here are 3 examples for using the keywords meta tag:
1. Including synonyms of words that you have not included in your articles
When people search they use many variations of words and phrases and so it will be hard for you to include all the different variations of those words in your article without making your page look like you're keyword stuffing. A big No No with the search engines.
2. Placing emphasis on certain words
It is not always easy to place your main keywords in your title or headline (H1 Tag). You might not use your main keyword until the middle of your page. (I have seen this often in Newbie Websites)
Using the keywords meta tag, you can add these keywords to tell the search engines that you place importance on these words. This is especially important when you're promoting a branded website.
Remember two important rules when using the Keyword tag: When emphasizing keywords, do not place the same keyword more than twice in the keywords meta tag. This could be considered keyword spamming. Also, do not place irrelevant keywords in your meta tag. This could get your website banned.

3. Languages
Another use for the Keywords Meta Tag is to add words from different languages. If you have a multi-language site but with one language as its default page then its a good idea to add words from other languages to attract people speaking languages that are different than the language of the default page. (Make Sense?)
There you go folks and I hope this will give all those newer members a few tips and perhaps not so new members might like to rethink their keyword strategy as well.

I agree completely. I got very lucky with my first attempt and my site and first post were indexed quite high.

That's great advice, Robert. I do use the keyword tag as it doesn't take much time to do so but haven't considered entering variations of the keyword used. It's interesting to see what the actual impact is.

I use the keyword tag all the time simply because it gives me the opportunity to add those all important secondary keywords.

Regarding using multi-languages, what would you use apart from the English language.
I never really thought about using anything apart from English as the majority of the world's polulation speak in this language, or so I believe.

Actually English is not the most spoken language.
That top spot goes to Chinese with Spanish a close second.
I personally have used Spanish a lot for South American and of course Spain.

I just have a translation function at the top of my Sidebar for people to use.
It works pretty well as its the flags of the various countries.
People may not be able to read whatever page they land on but they will recognize the flag of their country and click on it for the translation.
The weather here in Edinburgh is 'gie dreicht' as we say in Scotland.
Now go and look those words up on google lol.
