See You In 50,000 Words
Hi folks. As some of you know I've gone back to writing Western fiction. This November I've decided to enter the NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) writing challenge. This is a challenge to write 50,000 words in 30 days. I've never done it before but I'm really looking forward to it. This will be the equivalent of 50 blogs of 1,000 words each.
Here's what I've done so far:
- Outline is 90% done
- Character sketches are 90% done
- Setting is 80% done (I don't have all the minor locations figured out yet)
I've also been slowly working on my writer's website which has become the site I'm focusing on now (still using the training learned at WA -- it fits so many niches). I will be linking my various works there, doing author interviews (anyone interested?), and doing book reviews.
For those interested, book sales have been going quite well (it will be just over 600 for October) although I'm not up to full price yet. My goal is to continue writing in this genre and am, in fact, now working on a Western series with the first book being the one I'm writing in November. I also plan on moving into specialized eBooks next year, probably information books.
We're taught here to find a niche that we're passionate about and I've found that's absolutely true. I've tried a number of niches that didn't last because the passion wasn't there. After 10 to 20 posts on each I burned out and moved on. But I've now admitted to myself what my passion is and am pursuing that with everything I've got...it's become my second job but it's a job I love.
Thanks to everyone for your support along the way and I'll give you an update about half way through the month. This is my accountability group and there's never been a finer one. All the best and now...Friday midnight is soon upon me and I finally get to write that opening sentence.
I wish you all the best!

Good luck to you Rick. Looking forward to it as I'm almost done with the first book and it's wonderful!
Thanks for your kind comments about my first book, Tony. I'm curious, as a writer, have you ever done or considered doing nanowrimo?
Thanks for the cheers. I think it's just the kick I need to get back to writing regularly. It will be awesome.
I loved your first book! I'm behind you all the way with your competition and your book series. All the best to you, Rick :)
Good luck with it! One day, I'll give it a shot but am too busy right now. I'd love to try, though!
Thanks for sharing Rick, wish you aLOT of success with entering 50000 words into your computer, greetings Loes
Thanks. I've been practicing by writing 1,000 words a day on another book. 50,000 is not impossible.
What an epic adventure that sounds like!! Please update us when you get some time.
Good luck and holding thumbs Rick!!
I've been prepping a lot and am eager to get writing. I'll be sure to provide an update. Thanks for the follow.

NANO is a marathon. Remember that, and you should be successful at it. Regardless, I wish you nothing but the best of luck.
Hopefully I've prepped myself enough for this marathon. I have my family onside and in support so that will help.
