Hi Patrick,
I like to think of it like YouTube thumbnail. If I could create a relevant and captivating featured image, it will improve my website visitors' curiosity and encourage them to read my post.
When we combine it with our theme, a featured image can also set the tone of our website, it helps to define our brand.
Also, people respond better to information when it's presented visually or with visual elements than just plain text. You should also use a featured image if your theme calls for it directly. That is, it would look incomplete or as though an error had occurred if you fail to include one. (see the attached pic as an example)
A featured image can also help with SEO whenever we do the Alt text of the image.
You've asked great questions. If you don't have image optimization plugin, the more pictures you upload on to your site, the slower your site might get. But sometimes it also depends on your theme. Generate Press is fast and reliable.
I use Smush and I know some WA members use Smush pro plugin to optimize their images on their website.
Changes are scary at times, but I hope you also do some backups in case you don't like the changes you make and you'd like to revert back to where it was before you made the changes.
Here is links to the training I followed to back up my website (without plugin or with plugin): Backup your WP website files without plugin or FTP in 40 sec Full Backup With a Plugin Some members also use plugins such as UpDraftPlus plugin. Back Up Your Database and Files Using the UpdraftPlus Plugin Hope this helps,

Thanks Ferra! I certainly respond better to visual info. One of my websites is sort of like the front page of youtube. Now I just have to change the file type on all the images! :D. Sounds like a worthwhile Sunday morning project.
All the best,
Pat
Hi, you can always reduce your imagery resolution so it does not take long time to load, plus I think it is pretty awesome to have a frontpage homepage slider.

Some great answers for you, Pat! I also advocate a featured image! As the old saying goes, "A picture is worth a thousand words!"

Since my site is health related, and I'm not yet a medical professional, I want to include a medical disclaimer, or perhaps multiple medical disclaimers. Any advice on where I
I would place it once just like a the Privacy Policy and Affiliate Disclosure Statement. I locate these in the Footer area of my website. In that way every post can have access to them.
Thoughtful to place such a disclaimer.
Hope this helps.

Where should I put medical disclaimers on my website?
