Wealthy Affiliate Goals: Week 2

It's challenging to be a self starter, particularly when what you're yearning towards takes time, patience, and a substantial amount of hard work and focused attention.

I find that I'm less motivated to work towards my dreams if I lack a tangible plan to stick to, or others to hold me accountable.

With this in mind, last thursday I gave myself a list of goals to complete in one week's time.

Last Week's Goals

Site comments: Write 10 comments for other people's content; ask for 3 article comments in return.

Site feedback: Provide site feedback for 5 different sites.

Jaaxy: Come up with 10 low QRI article titles

Site Content
: Write 2 blog posts (still not reviewing any products or using affiliate links at this stage)

Network
: Make ten new friends (i.e., add 10 new people to my network).

Training: Complete 3 training lessons in level 4

What I Accomplished

While I want this to be an inspirational post, I also want it to be honest.

Last week, I didn't quite accomplish what I set out to do.

I still have 5 comments and one blog post to write, as well as 3 more training lessons to knock out.

That said, I still feel pretty good about what I have been able to get done.

I've also had a few collateral benefits along the way.

For example, two more of my articles were indexed in Google, which makes for 9 indexed articles of the 15 I've managed to write in the past month.

I also surpassed 18,000 written words for my first month with WA.

I'm finding that writing is getting easier as I make it a daily habit. This is encouraging.

So, what do I hope to accomplish next week...?

I'll take last week's goals and tweak them just a bit.

What to Accomplish for Next Week (Week 2)

Training: Complete level 4.

Site comments: Write 5 comments for other people's content; ask for 2 article comments in return.

Site feedback: Provide site feedback for 10 different sites.

Jaaxy: I have so many keywords for content at this point. It almost feels like I'm using Jaaxy as an excuse for actually sitting down to write content!

Instagram: I plan on researching (here and on Google) some proven ways for attracting followers on Instagram. As I only have around 7 posts on each of my two sites, I don't think eitherare quite ready for hyping up on social media. It seems like a decent idea to start planning my strategy, though ! (Also, as per Roysin's recommendation, I'll check out Tailwind!)

Site Content
: Write 1 blog posts (still not reviewing any products or using affiliate links at this stage)...The school year just started for me, so I plan to write ~1 blog post/week until I have a break.

Network
: Make 20 new friends (i.e., add 10 new people to my network).

Final Thoughts

Ok, so I didn't quite follow-through and accomplish everything as planned in my first week of goal setting. No big deal. I do feel my goals were achievable. I feel this week's are as well.

I'll check back in next week to let everyone know how it goes!

Until then,

Pat

I like your entrepreneur state of mind, Pat. Good goals, but I agree with Chrystopher and Paula to cut down on the site feedbacks and site comments, to gve time to coneten writing. Content is the bread you need to succeed.

I little tip on Instagram is to head over to Tailwind and grab their Instagram Planner for 2020 and their guide on achieving a lot of followers and impressions on the platform. Their guides and advice are very good.

Roy

I completely agree - it's nice to have experienced Wa'ers around to keep me in check! Lol. Thanks for the hot tip re: instagram and followers. I'll make sure to pay Tailwind a visit sometime this week (heck, I'll even update my post and include it as a subgoal of my instagram goals for the week!).

All the best,

Pat

😊👍🏼 That sounds great, Pat

Hello Pat,

Great post to remind you about goal setting. I think your encouraging others to find a structure for some tasks themselves.

Because your right it is a great challenge to be a self-starter.

And I think when you can write something that not only reminds yourself of goals but helps others see a way of achieving something, you got a win-win situation.

I wish you great success in your journey.

Erica :)

Thanks Erica! Goal setting is something I've historically tended to avoid as it can be an anxiety inducing task.

That said, paired with the right plan of attack (i.e., a "how to" for accomplishing your goals), goal setting can actual be kind of a therapeutic process - because, over time, you begin to trust that once the list is published (whether it be on a sticky note, or a blog post here on WA), you'll do what it takes to get it done - which is a rewarding feeling.

So true Pat. I guess that is also the accountability you spoke about too.

All the best
:)

Well done Pat for being accountable to yourself, I was only 24-36 hours late to hold you accountable, but no need as you’ve done it yourself ;-)

It’s not the end of the world to not achieve everything, but you have made a huge dent which is awesome :-)

I agree with Paula, after this next week, maybe drop the comments and feedback by half, as that might allow you to create two posts a week, instead of the one currently planned.

This will help you to gain more traction in the search engines, and it sounds like you already have your keywords lined up for these posts, which is good :-)

Keep up the amazing work and I’ll hold you accountable again next week should you not update us by Saturday morning UK time ;-)

You’re doing an amazing job!

Thanks Chrystopher! Nice to have some experienced voices here to help shape my focus!

Look forward to hearing from you again!

All the best,

Pat

You have been real busy. The goals you set for yourself are awesome. I have never really been good at completing my goals. Because I write them and don't keep them where I can see them. If I did that maybe it would help me. What do you think? Or is there a better way of keeping and accomplishing your goals?
All the best,
Miriam

Thanks Miriam! You may already use it, but google calendars (or any other ecalendar) can be a good tool to use for monitoring your goals. You can set it to remind you of what goals you still have pending completion.

I still use the sticky note method. I write down my goals on a note, stick it to my fridge, and cross things off as I complete them.

I don't think there's any gold standard when it comes to goal setting and motivation. What's effective really depends on what works best for you!

Thanks again for the thorough feedback :).

All the best to you,

Pat

Murphy,
This was a killer post. You know it's ok if you dont hit the target for your goals. I am constantly rolling over goals week to week.
Thing is for me I dont like strict schedules that I have to adhere to. I'm finding out though that when I do schedule my time I am definitely more productive and my time is spent wisely. But still I dont like it.

I like the whole not knowing what's next just bouncing around getting to whatever needs to be done. Inefficient yes but so much fun.
This attitude plagued me for the first two month I was in WA. I wasnt really taking the whole blog thing and you'll make money through links seriously as a business. I didnt totally waste time mind you but I could have done more and been better you know.
I take things much more seriously now. And I'm focused in scheduling and all on building a real business with my blog as a corner stone. Great post.
Thanks for letting me share.

Thanks for the thorough reply, Joseph! I agree that a strict schedule can impede flexibility. I also like the element of surprise, and being able to choose what I want to do and when - that's why I don't include any time blocks. :)

Glad to read that your scheduling is paying off, and I wish you all the best.

Pat
