Why I built 4 websites

Hey WA friends,
I know that the general wisdom is to work on one thing at a time. But I have chosen to work on four things at a time. How crazy is that! I am certainly inviting problems.

But I want to present to you the main reason behind my decision to expand my writing ministry and how I manage the extra work. And after you read this, you might want to expand yours as well.
Actually, I know a bunch of WAers who manage multiple sites. And here in WA, there is the option of creating a site based on the certification course with a personal niche and the training via the boot camp to promote WA. And I see people doing both. I am.
CAVEAT: I am nothing against those who focus on one website. My decision is a reflection of my personal goals and aspirations. And so, this blog is more of an expression of my opinion and not a WA standard to follow.
Now, before I decided to expand, I had to think through the advantages of having just one website and concentrating on that one. Certainly, it is advantageous in many ways to focus on one. It’s about my limited time, energies, and resources all poured into one. And certainly Google and other search engines like Yahoo and Bing will eventually find all my work. And so, people have asked why I would expand when one is so much easier. Here is the simple reason:
Four has a greater outreach than one: One is easier, four has a greater outreach into the different niches that you determined. There is that saying “the more the better.” I know successful people that manage more than 50 websites. But that’s a level I am not ready to attain yet. At Wealthy Affiliate, I am allowed to host 50 websites (25 own domain, 25 siterubrix). And so, I am opened to getting there some day.

Sure, one website can do the job. But, four websites can have a greater outreach and do the job on a broader scale. Now this assumes two things. First, that you believe that you have more things to say that could be said better and better displayed in different niches. And second, it also assumes, in my case, that each of the four has its own identity and personality. These things I will write about more in the future. But for now, it’s more of a simple explanation that four can reach different corners of the world via the cyber world in different ways. Now, I want to be clear that no one has to do this. This is just one good possibility, especially for those who have committed to a writing ministry. And for me as a pastor, I see distinct niches such as a general audience and one specific to pastors and writers.

And I have seen the search engines treat all four of my sites differently. I can’t fully explain why, but I am definitely seeing the difference. One site seems to receive preferential treatment though it is a smaller site while another site is still seeking more attention. And so, different sites, different niches leads to different behaviors and different treatment and probably different rankings in the light of the differing niche competitions. And who knows how these four will play out and be treated a year from now.
People have asked if I duplicate content from one site to another.
