Has Your Website Lost Traffic? Do THIS RIGHT NOW
Short and sweet today (promise, LOL!)
Okay, this post is more specifically aimed at those of you who’ve had a website online for at least a year, but it would be better if this period was longer.
Furthermore, this is more geared towards those of you who have lost traffic to your websites.
I would hazard a guess (and have seen proof) that many members lost traffic due to two specific Google algorithm updates, namely the Helpful Content update of August 2022 and the Spam update of September 2022.
Realistically, these two updates were aimed at “thin content” (content that really doesn’t provide the reader with much benefit and doesn’t provide any actionable advice) and overuse of keywords within your content and poor use of links, internal, external and backlinks.
Then again, there have also been 5 now I believe “Product Review Google Algorithm Updates” in the last 2 years.
I KNOW that many members have suffered from these updates over the past two years.
The product review updates were again focused on “thin content”, more specifically that a “review” simply provided features of the product that can be found anywhere on the internet.
Once more, this doesn’t provide value or give the reader any actionable advice.
I’m not here to teach you how to rewrite this content (well, not today anyway, sometime in the future, sure), as this information can be found at Google Developers.
However, here is a FULL LIST of all Google’s recent ranking-based Algorithm updates (updates that may affect the ranking of your articles).
I know this is typically written in “Google Speak”, as in, Google doesn't actually make it 100% clear what they actually want (in other words, Google is providing us with “thin content”, LOL), but with time you may be able to decipher what they want (BUT, the best clue has to what “Google Wants” is to research and review the Top 10 results on page one for any specific keyword - this is Google essentially “telling you” what they deem “Good Content”).
Anyway, I simply want to introduce you to a website that will scan through your analytics and then provide a “report” (usually within 48 hours).
This report will then provide details of articles that have lost traffic over the past 12 months.
The site will also provide details about how to refresh/update old content, as well as an explanation as why this occurred.
Okay, the website in question is Animalz Revive.
So, let’s look at some stats for my Exercise site, which was “hit” during both the Helpful Content and Spam update.
Yep, naughty, naughty, we all “get it wrong” (according to Google) sometimes.
This also goes to show that this is an ever-evolving learning process.
It makes no difference if you’re earning 6-7 figures a year, trust me, you’re still learning.

So, initially my report shows me that I have 160 articles that have “lost” 49,920 views PER MONTH.
Okay, next it will actually show ALL individual 160 articles and the amount of traffic they have individually lost.
Here’s the first one:
How Rare is a 405 lbs Bench Press?

So, this shows me that this article has lost 99.5% of its traffic since its peak month.
It also shows that this article has lost 7,641 views PER MONTH since its peak.
Ouch!!!
Here’s another article:
Forearm Fatigue From Lat Pulldowns?

I have actually recently rewritten and updated this article, so I’ll wait to see what happens.
However, this article still lost 95.7% and 1,416 views PER MONTH since its peak.
Just think about that for a moment.
If I rewrote JUST these two articles, and managed to get them back to the traffic levels they were at last year, this would increase my monthly traffic by 10,000+ visitors per month.
Are you now starting to see the importance of updating old content?
Finally, Animalz Revive has a specific blog post here about how to update “decaying” blog posts.
Admittedly, the advice is fairly generic, but still pretty good.
Once you visit Animalz Revive you’ll be asked to provide access to your Google Analytics.
This is as simple as entering an email address (which is the email address that is connected to your Google Analytics account).

If you have more than one website linked to your Analytics account simply choose the one that you would like the report for (you can also request a separate report for any other websites if you wish).
There’s nothing particularly fancy about this, and these details can be gleaned yourself by studying your Analytics and Google Search Console.
However, I guess it’s much easier to go about things this way and receive a report within 48 hours about content that needs improving.
Right, I don’t know about you, but clearly I’ve got 160 articles to rewrite/update, so that should keep me busy for a while.
Just to let you know, this website got up to 675 articles published, but it is now down to 520 (oh yes, I also did lots of deleting too).
So realistically, 360 articles are “okay”, performing and haven’t lost significant amounts of traffic.
However, just by rewriting these articles (rather than having to find new keywords, researching from the very beginning and producing “new” content) COULD (there’s no guarantee) see traffic improve significantly.

Awesome I had my traffic completely decimated by these updates. But to be honest It's only made me realise just how many areas I need to improve. We will have to see - I've submitted my site as you suggested and hopefully, I can get back to where I was but in a much stronger position than before.
Thanks for this, Partha. I'm scared to see my results from this report, LOL. Although, my traffic has been improving in the last couple of months. I've been updating old posts regularly, with many more to go.
I'm happy to hear that you're here for another year!! I read your article from yesterday (just didn't comment on it).
"Realistically, these two updates were aimed at “thin content” (content that really doesn’t provide the reader with much benefit and doesn’t provide any actionable advice) and overuse of keywords within your content and poor use of links, internal, external and backlinks."
Hey Partha, about the above quote... How did you even find out about these things? You're a genius, please enlighten me so I can also monitor these changes.
"However, just by rewriting these articles (rather than having to find new keywords, researching from the very beginning and producing “new” content) COULD (there’s no guarantee) see traffic improve significantly." - About this quote, there is a guarantee, if you approach SEO and high-quality content correctly, you WILL see results.
Hey, Partha Thanks for the information I have submitted to them. My info and analysis are underway.
AdSense told me I had some thin content, and I have been working on correcting it but what a time-consuming process.
Thanks so much for the link. This will save time and help me fix my problem more efficiently!
Chet.
Thank you for sharing this, Prince Partha.
I am experiencing the opposite with my professional website.
Following these 2 Google Algorithms, I am seeing my traffic increase with no significant additional posts being added.
(I have allowed it to "mull" for a few months.)
We are now EXACTLY where we want to be in the Search Queries and benefitting from the business flowing in for consulting and OD interventions.
I will use Animalz to clean up the website and get cracking again.
Many thanks!!

Yaaaayyy!!! It's ALWAYS a good sign if an algorithm update is POSITIVE, it shows that you're doing the right things.
Just keep going!!

Hi Partha, sounds good and I have plenty of reasons to do this check, but is it really safe to give them access to GA? You obviously did it so I can guess your answer, just reluctant a bit. The same is when you sell a site, everybody wants access to GA.
