Interesting Niche Idea: 80's & 90's Nostalgia
Did you know that the 1980's and 90's are coming back in style? Yup. There are two very distinct online cultures growing around these two decades.
The 1980's
Two years ago there was a movie released called "Kung Fury". It's a comedy about a Ninja Cop that time-hacks his way back to the 1980's to fight Hitler. There are some vikings and dinosaurs in there too.
Drive was an extremely popular movie release in 2011 that starred Ryan Gosling, and takes place in the 80's. The main track, among others, was created by an artist named Kavinsky, whose entire body of work is 80's revival music. He even made a track with the popular modern musician, The Weeknd.
Here are a few 1980's themed websites I found:
- brandedinthe80s.com
- www.80snostalgia.com
- simplyeighties.com
These are just examples of fan-sites that you could potentially create! People are buying original stuff from the 1980's, or new stuff created with theme from that decade. When people buy stuff, that's an opportunity to monetize your website!
Oh, and let's not forget that Stranger Things is coming back for Season 2 on Netflix soon!
The 1990's
This is another decade that's making a comeback, or perhaps never really left us. Full House and Friends are on constant repeat on Netflix, thousands of times over by people who love those shows. There's even a new TV series called "Fuller House" that uses many of the same characters from Full House.
Oh, and have you heard of Vaporwave music? Probably not. It's kind of weird, but interesting. They take 90's internet graphics, advertisements, and even store jingles, then remix them into new tracks. Sometimes they take a song and just slow the beat down by 50%.
The also mix in Japanese culture, dolphins, Arizona Iced Tea, Fiji water bottles...amongst other things...anyway, the point is that people are creating NEW music based on OLD culture.
Here's an example of a weird product that's selling out now...clothes designed like that famous paper cup graphic design! Weird, right? And there's a new fashion trend called "norm core" where you dress like as plain and boring as possible, e.g. Costco jeans and a white t-shirt. LOL
Anyway, all of this is to say that 80's and 90's nostalgia could be a really interesting niche, if that's something you're interested in. There's plenty to talk about and lots of products to promote.
Do you have a favorite decade?

I was playing in rock bands all over the place during the 80's. It was a great time ! Thanks Nathaniell !
Thanks for the reminder for King Fury and Drive. I've made a note to watch them.
There is a YouTube channel I like called New Retro Wave that specialises in new music that's meant to sound like 80s music:

Some of the stuff on that channel I love!
Anyone else listen to New Retro Wave?
Way to make us 40+ adults feel older to hear decades we grew up in are making a comeback as a trend. lol
The 80's brings up a tonne of nostalgia for me. The era of bad hair and I was soooo guilty of that . LOL
I was in high school in the 80's and at the time I couldn't appreciate it, but looking back now, even things that I hated at the time bring back such good memories. Nostalgia is such a powerful thing...
This is really an interesting idea for a niche. I remember when I first started here, I kept seeing "anything can be a niche" in the training. I thought that was a bit of an exaggeration, but now I see it is true.
I almost started a 90s nostalgia site a couple months ago mainly because thats the era i grew up in. Still have the domain name so i might still do it.

Your nostalgia was once my reality. Perhaps you're too young to know that EVERYTHING comes back around eventually. Now where did I put my torn, written all over peace jeans?????? :-)
