Site Health

Hello gang.

Health issues (not sitehealth!), money, family stuff and goodness knows what else have all conspired to leave me rather quiet here on WA. Sorry, but it's just the way it is and we all have to deal with our own circumstances as best we can.

I'm still not entirely sure how it works even though I've read up on it, but I love the way our website health is now flagged up when we log in here at WA.

I have two sites. I'm ashamed to say one hasn't been touched since mid december and is labelled as 'SiteHealth Needs Work'. Ha, tell me about it! It hasn't changed from that, and I certainly wouldn't argue with the analysis.

My other site: tidyface.com is confusing me a bit. I continue to add to it regularly and I think it's coming along quite well, but the sitehealth fluctuates. Quite often it's 'Awesome' but right now it's 'Getting Better', only the other day it was 'Pretty Good'!

I'm not complaining, overall I think it's a great motivator. But I wonder if we respond to sitehealth in different ways depending on our personality?

For example: when tidyface.com is described as 'awesome' it pleases me and I feel motivated to do more, but when it 'Needs Work' I find I'm a bit despondent and it can be hard to get going. When it drops from 'Awesome' to 'Getting Better' in a couple of days, I reach for the bottle! (Ha, not really!)

That's just me, obviously I need a lot of positive encouragement. For some people maybe it works the other way around; 'Awesome' may mean sit back and relax, whereas 'Needs Work' may be just the kick in the backside you needed to get stuck into some serious stuff.

What do you think?

I have to agree with Nicole. Having only 5 plugins to get that 100% on "plugin health," is really not enough. Heck, we have 4 required ones, that only leaves 1 other spot! So, my site health took a dive yesterday as well.

I put that on hold and just keep on using the plugins. Overall the website is speedy and as long as that's given, I try to leave as is.

Makes sense to me. We are all freaking out about this, but if your site is running at a decent speed and you're not having trouble, I think we are going to have to let it be. If the algorithm has changed, it won't kill us! :)

Absolutely! I'd be more concerned seeing a sudden drop in rankings and traffic. But yeah, seeing the site health going down is frustrating. :)

Well, put me in the pot as well. After I had to take a little break on my website in December, I finally managed to get back to a regular working schedule and was very happy to see yesterday that my site health from "Needs work" to "Pretty good" advanced.

Today it shows an annoying orange text called "Getting better" and my plugin percentage has dropped from 100% to 0%, complaining about too many plugins...LoL.

Not sure if it's a plugin issue overall or not. Either way, I can't reduce my plugins. I need them all... :D

Honestly, I don't think up to 5 plugins is enough for a website. The more experience we gain, the more features, goodies and gimmicks we would like to offer. So our websites look as professional and appealing as possible.

I noticed also that the image of my website is showing a different one and I need to refresh it to see mine.

Hi Nicole I have had the same issue with the images many times they are not mine and sometimes I have to refresh 2 or 3 times to get mine back on. This is not a computer issues on my end as you are having the same problems. It is annoying sometimes makes you wonder how safe the site is when someone else's images comes up.
Take care and I agree 5 plugins are not enough

Hi Andre,

definitely not a computer issue which is a relief...lol. Today I see it a bit calmer and try to not stress too much about it. There are better things to do than thinking about the amount of the plugins. :)

As I said, as long as it is fast enough and your website has rankings. plugins shouldn't be a concern.

I did try to reduce them though. Doesn't work. :)

Have a fantastic weekend and take care!

Totally agreed I managed to get a reasonable speed back and have not really reduced much than before. I am having a good weekend as I am not focusing here.
Enjoy your weekend you deserve it too.

Haha I am the same way!! I focus a lot on my site health and want them all to be at 100% because it makes me feel like I am doing an excellent job! A couple weeks ago my content frequency went from 90% to 30% in a mater of 4 days because I was traveling at the time.

I logged on and I was devastated! Lol! Since then I have been working hard to build it back up. I guess for me it tends to drive my force to work at it when the numbers are both high and low... If they are low I feel I need to work hard and add to it, if they are high I still feel I need to work hard to maintain those percentages because I know how quickly they can drop.

I don't have the same fluctuation your explaining though as long as I am continuing to add to it? That is interesting.

I did just recently install a plug in (social media) which brought me to five in total. Since then that percentage has went from 100% to 90% which really bothers me! Not too sure what I can do about that one as I am not willing to give up my social media plug in...

Oh, I can totally relate to the feeling of being devastated. But you got a good point there and for all we know, the quick drops in percentages may just be there to make us work harder...LoL. ;)

About the plugins. I think I really have to wipe that out of my site health concern and completely ignore it. It has tendencies to drive me crazy.

Hahaha - my site health shows someone else's site (visually - still links to my site though)
... gone down like everyone else's.

I also noticed a few times that the image of my site shows someone else's as well I have to refresh to get back my home page sometimes 2 or 3 times this has become a regular issue too.

Many of us were caught by surprised. Now it seems we're all in the same boat .:(

Mine was pretty good and then it went to getting better.I did worry about it at first and then I thought, maybe not such a big deal, just like the ranking table.

This is the 5th post I've read today about site health changing! Mine dropped overnight too so as Loes says, I'm almost sure the algorithm has been changed.
I pay more attention to my site speed and what is happening in analytics and WBT. I view the site health here as more of a guideline but don't worry too much about it.

Thanks for your responses. Yes, it seems like something has changed but, as you say Lorna, we're all in the same boat!

Thanks Peter - my site also went from 'pretty good' to 'getting better'- I was disappointed too - so we are all in the same boat - I dont feel so bad...

Mine dropped also dramatically, since yesterday, and I am working on it daily, I think they have changed the algo-ritme

So did mine as well amongst other issues with plugin.

Loes I noticed that your plugins are zero same as mine. Yesterday they were 100% today zero something has changed there.

I noticed that too, I am waiting for a blog from Carson:)

That normally happens around 2 days later.
I have my speed back to a reasonable pace now but still with around 18 plugins now I am off to bed.
Take care enjoy the rest of your day.
Andre

Goodnight here it's noon
