Victoria Day
Monday, May 21, 2018, is a great day to celebrate in Canada and the North American continent. On this day, which varies every year, the namesake of Kyle and Carson's home city is celebrated. This year it's May 21 but it varies throughout a 7-day period.
Queen Victoria was instrumental in the development of Western Canada and has a varied history. She;
- Was crowned at the young age of 18
- Lived her early life practically as a prisoner under a strict regimen called "the Kensington system"
- Beside English Was versed in French and Italian
- Was not easy going and had disagreements with many a prime minister
- Was called the Grandmother of Europe
- Survived at least 6 assassination attempts including an incursion into Buckingham Palace
- Married to Prinnce Albert. Daughter Alberta bears the name of Canada's Rocky Mountain province
- Ruled at a time of critical settlement of the northwestern part of North America
- Stood Englands' ground against US expansionists (president Polk)in the Oregon Territory claims https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_boundary_dispute
- Ruled during the critical majority of the 19th century
What is interesting here is that this famed monarch was instrumental in developing much of Canada's spirit for the far western territory of that nation. And we may well owe her resolve to the entrepreneurial spirit of Wealthy Affiliate!

Hi Mike,
Thank you, Mike. I was not aware of these historical facts about Queen Victoria. My two sons ( Graduated at Queens University) might know some of these facts but not me. So Thanks.
Cheers,
Marcus
Very interesting post, Mike. I enjoyed watching a special on ETV about Queen Victoria. It was a series, but I didn't get to see all of the programs. Carol
