Authoring & Writing Content

Hi All,

So I'm writing my first bit of content which is exciting! The article is on alternative cancer therapy clinics. I've chosen this based on a keyword search in Ja

I am no expert, but just to say what I might find interesting to read: how about a story about just one clinic? It could be the history of the clinic, info from the director about why/how it was started, what the clinic person thinks the clinic has to offer, specific treatment or approach, and/or vignette about (probably unnamed for privacy reasons) someone who has been cared for there.

This would take whatever depth background research on the internet you could do, then e-mailing (or phone if listed on website or online directory) to ask to do a phone or e-mail interview the director or someone relevant.

Obviously, this would take some work, but you'd have something potentially outstanding. Think of it like an old-fashioned (!) magazine feature story in the form of a blog post.

Guess what? After you've got that one done ... you do it again, etc. for another clinic.

Thanks Jay, a good idea I hadn't thought of yet. I'll take your feedback on board.

All the best to you in your journey.

I've been thinking the same thing Miles. Especially when companies aren't using WP sites. I guess go for key words, and yeah, go at it from that heart.
good luck ;)

Thanks Rick. I think you've hit the nail on the head - "go at it from the heart".

actually Miles, i'm considering buying a theme. I think that's what you're referring to. If we buy a theme, from the developer, like Thrive Themes, it jumps up the look and we get help from them.. Which could be priceless,, lol.
still in the fumbling forward stage myself ;)

Yes this is a common problem.

If it is only about outranking, it is possible, I wrote a few lines about it: If it is about amount of info, you cannot compete. Then try something else, a different approach, more specific perhaps, more personal perhaps.

Awesome. Thanks for your guidance.

Hi Miles, I love your niche. I have lost several friends and family members to cancer so it is definitely something that I can relate to. I highly recommend that you focus on what content you are creating and not your competition. Maybe you can't beat a corporation with a large staff that is paid to do research but you can learn from them. Browse the websites of you competition and see what works for them and what doesn't. You might not be the number one expert in something (especially popular problems that have been around awhile) but you can be someone that people relate to. You are a real person and that is different from your competition. Find very specific key ideas and problems that exist but do not have as many resources yet.

Focus on your success and do not worry about your competition. Remember, you have competition for a reason. You get to learn from their mistakes and use their successes to push you harder to reach your own. As long as you are honest and genuine, you will be okay. Do not get discouraged! Keep pushing and keep building your own future.

Best of luck,
Allison

Thanks so much Allison!

Sorry to hear about how you've been touched by cancer. Damn that thing.

Yes I suppose I'm not concerned about beating the competition per se. I want to provide or point to the best information out there that I can find. If there is something better out there I'm happy to point to it so it can help more people.

No point in reinventing the wheel!

I'll take your comments on board about being myself and getting people to relate to that.

Love your work!

Thank you so much. I greatly appreciate it. I've got a long ways to go but I am putting my heart into everything I publish with hopes that I will succeed down the road. Maybe you could collaborate with the people you look up to. Once you have established yourself, that is always a possibility. Offer them something in return for helping you. Promote each other maybe? Who knows. Good luck!

Hey Miles. When I was first starting out I asked a question just like this, and got loads of encouragement. Rather than trying to reproduce it all here, I'll post the link for you so you can read the responses I got. I think they apply equally well to you as well!

Awesome - thanks Kiefer. Sounds like you and I have had very similar experience. I don't know about you but when I saw these other great sites my thoughts turned negative. I thought, how the hell could I ever compete with these guys?!

But I like the idea that you just find a more specific approach and really personalise it so visitors connect with you rather than some "official authority" site.

Just a follow up quesiton - now that you've been going for a few months have you been able to put that into practice? And if you have has it worked?

Cheers,

Miles

Well I haven't seen the tangible results in terms of rankings, traffic, or income yet. But that may well be because my site is still young and without much authority with Google yet.

But I'm happy with the content of my site thus far. And I do believe that my site offers something distinct from what the big authority site offers.
