AI vs Human writing.

I like reading well written articles., and having been in Colombia for the past 3+ years good writing is not hard to find.

There is a very nice park not far from the business center of Santa Marta, shady, the seats are located where it is easy to ignore the sounds of passing traffic (and other park users), where you can relax and read with minimal disturbances.

It is said Hemmingway, on his visits to the Caribbean, frequented this park to write drafts for a couple of his novels.

There is a bust of him at one end of the park.

Yesterday I read a good opinion piece about the violence in the Middle East, and wondered what AI could come up with.

The opinion piece by Julio César Henriquez begins "During a gathering admiring the beautiful view of Aventura in Miami, my friend Adrián Pontes argued that peace was more important than love these days."

Julio gets to his topic quickly, which is "Why the violence in the Middle East should end. And the relationship of the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, the Black Sea and the Caribbean."

I tried a few prompts in ChatGTP to see if it could come up with a paragraph that would equal or even surpass the eloquence of this paragraph from Julio's article.

"The voices of people throughout the globe cry out for the will for peace to prevail over violence. The end of war must be a universal purpose. Peace is that individual and collective conscience supported by the certainty that offers security, justice, social health, prosperity, well-being, healthy coexistence, and mainly, the highlighting of the values adopted by people."

The prompt I settled on for ChatGTP was, " Imagine you are a highly skilled, articulate writer. In one short paragraph tell me why, in Gaza, peace is more important than love."

I got this back: "In Gaza, the urgency of peace transcends the desire for love, as enduring peace is the foundation upon which love, empathy, and reconciliation can genuinely flourish. Without peace, the region remains mired in conflict and suffering, depriving its people of security, stability, and basic necessities. Establishing peace is the imperative first step towards fostering the compassion and understanding that can lead to long-term healing and harmonious coexistence among its communities, making it the paramount priority."

You could scrap Chat GTP's second sentence, I think we know what happens without peace.

There is a marked contrast between the first sentences of each, maybe I could have used a better prompt? but in my opinion ChatGTP gives a more "politico speak" (yawn), response.

The last two sentences of each (underlined), are basically saying the same thing.

I will leave it to you as to which sentence is more appealing.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Michael.

Julio’s words are more evocative. He’s said more with less. Thanks for pointing it out. Have a nice weekend.

Susan

Thanks Susan
You enjoy the rest of the weekend too.

Michael.

Too perfect for me. Awesome Mick.

Barbara

Thanks Barbara,
I hope things are going well for you.
Thanks
Michael.

Hi Michael,
I asked Pi exactly the same question you asked ChatGTP and the answer was:

"Sure thing. Here's my best effort at a concise, articulate take on the topic: "In Gaza, peace is paramount because without it, there can be no love. The unrelenting cycle of violence and tension has made daily life for ordinary citizens a constant struggle for survival. Until peace is achieved, the people of Gaza cannot truly experience the comfort and security needed for love to blossom."

I like the response.

Roger in Edmonton

Not a bad response Roger,
But AI still is talking about the violence and tension.

Julio's opening two sentences are a clarion call, he tells you what needs to be done, and what peace is.
He is more concise, his message is louder (I think), and he leaves you wanting to read on with the way he has structured his flow of words.

But that is just one small part (the easiest?) of his article I choose to see how ChatGTP would respond.

Michael.

Lots to think about

A marked difference in style Kathie.
Thanks.
Michael.

Awesome, Michael! I have not ventured into AI. You can spot an AI post a mile away! I know how to write, so I will continue to do just that!

Jeff

I should have done a word count as well.
But you can see Julio says everything Chat GTP did with less words, and more eloquent language.
Like this is a guy for whom English is a second language!

I am still not a fan yet of AI, my friend!

Jeff
