Four foolproof tips to build confidence

I remember talking to a friend about having big vision. She certainly had massive vision and her vision was so big that she was permanently living in the future. I must admit I used to be like this myself until very recently. What's so wrong with having massive vision you may be asking. Absolutely nothing. In fact there is everything right with it. I think having massive vision for your business is I believe one of the fundamental factors for bringing what you want into fruition. However there is also one other important factor that most people can forget. It is the journey. Miss this out and you'll be out of flow. It is the journey that creates the pleasure along the way and builds up the momentum and the confidence that we need to get to our destination.

This certainly resonates with me on many levels. I remember when I started to build my website and all I could do was think about it being completed. The more impatient I got with myself the more I was missing out on the most important part..the process of building it and how much I'd actually achieved. For example the fun of choosing a domain name, the theme, how to write content and learning all of the wonderful skills that enabled me to do that. Not to forget all of the wonderful friendships I've made along the way. I finished my website today and opened my new twitter account which I don't think i would have done if I hadn't of enjoyed the process.

The journey is also where we start to become aware of our progress. This shows you that you can do it and thus increases confidence in your abilities. It increases your energy and thus spurs you on towards the finish line.

Here are 4 foolproof tips that I used:

  • Take stock to see how far you've come - Draw two columns on a piece of paper and write two headings - where I was and where I am. Write a big long list in each . At a quick glance you'll be able to see the progress that you've made. It's a sure way to increase confidence.
  • Celebrate milestones - remember to reward yourself for each milestone you pass. It doesn't have to be an expensive reward; it could be as something as simple as buying yourself your favourite, book going out for a meal or even having a nice hot bath with your favourite aromatherapy oils.
  • Give yourself a pat on the back - not everyone may be as excited as we are about our finished products. Waiting for someone else to say well done is a sure way to squash confidence. Instead be the first to congratulate yourself. "I knew you could do it Melanie. Well done!" normally works for me.
  • Be in the moment every day - paying attention to every action your taking not only makes it easier to recall information and all your successes to mind but it makes life so much more enjoyable. Now instead of dreaming or visualizing my multi million pound empire and missing the wonders of the now I reserve my visualisation sessions to before I go to bed. That way I get a balance and it seems to be working for me.

So true. We forget to enjoy the journey. Thanks for reminding me about that :)

Live in the now, stay focused and positive then give yourself a pat on the back...Lol...great tips Melanie. :))

Hi, thank you for reading and commenting. It's really a simple formula but it really does work. I was asked to showcase my poetry in another exhibition and I was getting impatient because I hadn't heard from them. So I decided to relax and apply what I've been writing about in the above article. I got the email today I was waiting for yay! It really does work :)

That's great Melanie, glad it worked out. Good to occupy your mind with something else in those situations. Have a great day! :))

Positive people like you Melanie, are a joy to be around. Thanks for your fine blog. :-) Jon

Hi Jon. First of all I'd just like to say thank you for reading and leaving a comment. I value you your support. Secondly I'd like to say a big thank you for your lovely compliment. You are very welcome. Receiving lovely feedback from yourself and other WA members rally does make writing so worthwhile. Thank you :)

Nice list. It's important to have the confidence to move forward. There are so many nay slayers out there that will steal your dream if you're not confident. It does help to make that list to see what you've accomplished.

Hello Sui. Yes that's very true. I agree. That's why it is so important to train ourselves to listen to our best friend - the one that has been with us from the moment that we are born; ourselves. The lst is so simple but it is so effective as well. Thank you for taking the time to read and comment. I value your comments and time. Have a lovely day. Have you got anything nice planned?

Just trying to catch up from being gone so long.

Hi Sui. Where have you been if you don't mind me asking?

Just returned from Europe. Pix in my blog about Planting seeds.

Oh wonderful. I can imagine you've had a lovely time. Okay I will have a look at your blog now. Nice to plant seeds and fun watching them grow. :)

Great tips indeed Melanie. People take so many things for granted nowadays. I think your blog isn't applicable just for us, but also for parents who have young kids. Nothing in life seems certain, so we should appreciate every single piece of it. Every single person.

Hello Murie. Thanks for reading. Yes, and its nice to become more appreciative to what we have. It makes living more enjoyable and I think a great way to bring more abundance into our lives. I don't about you when I'm appreciating what I do have i seem to be more in flow and more nice things seem to happen. Have you found this to be true for you? Yes you are right, we should appreciate every single piece of it! Thanks for your feedback. If my article can help others i.e mums with children too then that's wonderful to know. If you know anyone with children please feel free to pass it on. Thank you for commenting and for your support. I really appreciate it :)

Hi Melanie! Good advice. How about"Even baby steps are good" I ran into this mode about two weeks ago and began to slow down :) I'm a lot more relaxed now- smelling the keywords :) It's a journey, not a sprint race.

Hi Papi. I hope that you are well. I see that you came to the same conclusion as me. You are right it is a journey and not a sprint. This is how I'm now thinking and it seems to be working. Glad you're smelling the keywords. I like that expression :) Thank you so much for reading and taking the time to read my blog. I value your opinion and support :)

Thank you Melanie :) I see you are coming along splendidly! Shhhh, some keywords really, really stink :) others smell like blooming roses!! Be good, and if you can't then be real, real bad!! Just joking.. :)

Great tips, Melanie and I say amen to Carlalves' "Never Stop Learning".

Good advice, Melanie! My only other one would be "Never Stop Learning!"

Hi Carla. Thanks for your support. That's a very good tip and so very true. The more we keep on learning the more our confidence grows. Thank you for sharing :)

Great tips Melanie! Confidence is powerful, and well worth developing.

Hi Damien. Thanks for reading and leaving a comment. I'm glad you enjoyed reading my blog. Yes it is indeed and I think once you have it the sky isn't even the limit as they say.

Reach for the sky, and when the sky is too high, its time to fly!

Haha I love this. Can I use this as quote and I'll give you credit? :)
