Hosting Advice Needed! Please Help!

So if anyone has been following my blogs here you will know that my mommy blog is FLYING!

Right now I have one challenge that is holding me back big time and that is when my website is slow and if it has more than about 20 visitors on at a time it slows down even more. At times my website crashes and this is starting to tick me off.

The problem is that I don't understand hosting and I don't understand all the tech talk. Can I be truly honest and say I also don't want to know?

I love SEO, I love blogging and I love doing Youtube videos... ask me any tech questions and my eyes start glazing over with boredom (kinda like when my husband starts talking about cars).

I have someone that has optimized my website for speed etc but I think the big problem is that I have a lot of content and I run baby competitions - a new one every month and at times I have over 800 photos in one competition.

I guess this would be what my hosting company meant by my website being "heavy".

I don't want to bad mouth my hosting company but they are just not doing it for me. Every time I ask them what is going on and if I must upgrade they just tell me to optimize my website... which is done as far as I understand.

And if my website goes down and I email them about one minute after I email them my website miraculously appears with them emailing me a little while later saying they can't see any problems and my website is fine... this happens maybe 2 or 3 times a month.

Now my baby competitions bring in a huge amount of traffic and engagement - and I need my website to work and to work fast.

I am getting about 25 000 visitors a month which about 140 000 page views.

Yes I am aware my website is heavy but with all that is going on I can only see it getting more heavy in the future.

What are my options here, what should I be looking for?

I have heard about getting my own server and I have heard things about cloud hosting.... #Clueless #Help #Eeekk

Please can members that have good knowledge of hosting give me some guidance here, and can you please make it advice for hosting dummies!

My mommy blog url is in my profile if you want to have a look?

Hi there Lynne, I just found this blog and it would be cool to get an update. I have someone who is almost in the same position and to know how it all turned out for you would be so helpful.

Thanks for posting this as it was a great read :)
Hope to hear from you soon

Actually I got hold of my hosting company and I let rip - and I told them that they need to assist me and right away with getting my hosting sorted out They upgraded my package and everything has been ok since then. I may want to move to WA hosting sometime though - it has been on my to do list forever!

Where are you hosting now? Is it WA? If not, I would switch to it. If you are already on WA, your answer may be getting hosted on a dedicated server. Contact Carson to see if he offers that option. I have previously hosted websites on Hostgator and received comments on how fast it was, though your results may differ in your part of the world.

Thanks, I have discussed this issue with Kyle and I am going to move my website here as soon as I can :) Thanks so much for your feedback!

You are having tremendous success, at least in terms of visitors and views! I have not heard of anyone who is having bandwidth or speed issues with WA's servers; You might just go ahead and move it over here! (you get the hosting by virtue of your membership, so why not?)

I'm not sure asking peeps here is the right first step, Carson is the logical choice...

SiteRubix will give you up to 500,000 visitors/month with unlimited bandwidth. I think they will be able to handle the load that your site will get.

At your current host what types of error messages do you get when your site goes down?

It sounds you have a poorly optimized web server or database.

There have been a number of different messages, what I want to deal with now is moving my hosting because I have an issue with the way that my hosting company is dealing with my queries, or rather not dealing with them. I have sent Kyle a message so I will discuss the possibility of hosting here :)

Thanks Marcus I will check that out. Is VPS virtual private server?

Yes.

As an experienced IT person, I think I immediately know your issue and I can give you more than a 'TRY THIS" answer. Let me say the last server that we purchased cost $118,000. We got rid of it a few months ago at the recommendation of the Feds and we are better off without it. We still use servers and we have several desktop PC's running server software. I will PM you with a solution which if you are using a major hosting company, even NameCheap, they can fix your issue. I think you need more than WA can provide. We have MANY websites but none with your level of traffic.

Thanks, I look forward to hearing your options :)

Hi Lynne, I have read this can happens when a blog or site goes viral, some hostings are not ready for this.
I read WA might be ready when this happens when a site gets lots of visits.
You might need to PM to Carson and talk to him about this,
I'm happy for you and the good work you're doing on your site!.

Yes it is a wonderful problem. I am going to message Kyle and Carson to see - maybe I should just move it here? We'll see :)

Definitely checkout WA. the site support alone is worth the consideration!

Thanks Michael :)

Hi Lynn. It's really not good enough that your hosting company is passing the buck back to you. If they are not willing to commit to a simple yes/no answer about whether you need to upgrade, then I'm guessing the person you've been speaking with doesn't know what they are doing.

If this were me, I'd contact other hosting companies including WA and explain what is going on. Then ask them if they have the capacity to resolve it for you with the least amount of drama, i.e., transferring the site, etc.

As for getting your own server, I'd be careful about that decision. It will have to be running 24/7 and if there's excessive heat, power outage, power overload, etc. you could end up having your site down for quite a while.

I was with Hostgator and never had a problem. They were always very prompt and knowledgeable about my issues when I did have any. The only reason I left was to consolidate my expenses. I transferred my sites to WA so I could eliminate the hosting expense.

I hope this helps and I hope you get it resolved quickly! Alanna

Thanks Alanna for your feedback - I meant a dedicated server, not my own server. I don't want to deal with any of that stuff myself LOL.

I am sure with the advice and guidance members give me here I will find a solution.

I'd start with WA. They will be completely honest with you on whether they can host a site that big. At the very least, you will have a benchmark to use as guidance.

Also, I've had numerous issues with the theme of my site and the WA support team have been more helpful than the theme support!

Thanks, yes I will contact them and see what they say. Thanks.

No worries, Lynn. Having a site that big is a nice problem to have!! Congrats on that! :D

Oh yes I agree it is a wonderful problem :)
