One phone call

One phone call can lead to a new blog!

I just called the Dutch Authority Personal Data and ask them if I was permitted to copy their text, translate is into English and share it on my website.

And they said YES!

I was not allowed to show their logo, and had to credit them as source, but that's not a big problem:)

Wordcount 2298

The new European privacy legislation in (very) short

  • You have the right to look into saved data
  • You have the right to be "forgotten"
  • You have the right to tranfer your data
  • You have the right to inspect your data
  • You have the right to rectification
  • You have the right to restriction
  • You have the right to a human look at decisions that are about you
  • You have the right to object to data processing

Business owners are obliged to serve you these rights. They are also required to provide access and proof of how the captured data is used and processed.

Of course, there is more involved, I wrote a lengtly post about this additioned European law. But the bottom line is, that your privacy policy has to be in clear understandable language and visible on your website. That can be in the menu, side bar or footer. So don't put it away under a drop down tab!

Well done!!

Tried and true

Elaine

Thanks Elaine:)

WOW. I used the suggested Privacy Policy during training. Now, I have perused the laws in the USA and it is 'gaining in momentum". The whole DNT in place since 2014 is all new to me. THANK YOU for sharing and for clever ideas on new Blogs! You are a Blessing!
I have been thrilled as a technocrat, with data mining. I laugh each time Amazon or such tags me with opportunities based on one search. "Be careful what you search for". :)

Thanks, yes, I just called them and asked:))

I hope this European Law is for International?

For all European countries

Red tape, red tape, red tape! It should be up to the governments to explain people's rights not individual website owners.

Grrrrr!

It is on the official government website, and I got it from them, also the consent to translate it

It's just that I think it's an imposition for governments to expect website owners to educate people.

Perhaps a big sign saying:

"Everything you do on the internet can be seen and recorded and used against you."

They expect from website owners that they know the rules, as we, as citizens should know the law as well, but it's a kind of complicated jargon language, you have to go to college to understand what they mean

Handy to know. Loes - thanks for sharing :-)
Rich

My pleasure Rich

amazing what you can get if you just ask
