How to add a PayPal donation button in 7 steps
1. Go to https://www.canva.com and create your own button
2. Open your created button in paint and adjust the measures fit to widget area
3. Upload your created button to your website and copy the image url
4. Login to your PayPal account
5. Go to sales preferences > PayPal buttons > Edit
6. Fill in the form and choose for "use own button", paste there your image url
7. Generate your code, copy and paste it into a textwidget

I would really stay away from asking for donations. Jay went over site trust in one of his webinars and said that a donation button just to support the author is just really useless because no one is going to donate just to keep a page going, unless of course it has a really high authority.
In the US, you cannot have a donate button unless you register as a charity or not-for-profit organization and get a ID# from the government.
Oke, I wonder how that is in the Netherlands, I have donated to several websites without any problems
In the US there are certain requirements that have to be met for you to be considered a charitable organization. I'm sure there are many who do it anyway but if they get caught it won't be pretty.
When you apply and are approved, the government gives you a number and you have to report your donations and explain what they are being used for.
Of course, it is more complicated than that but that is the basic concept.
