Greetings!

I'm the consummate "Jack of all trades - and master of none". I'm hopeful I'll be able to unlearn any bad habits I've developed in Internet marketing. With a little help from my friends here, I'm looking forward to getting my act together. It could happen!!

In days gone by, I worked in construction and land development. When the US economy collapsed, the industry became all but extinct here. I began patenting and developing some new products. I have to tell you that marketing new products is 14 shades of difficult. Hence my new occupation - making a living on the Internet. Stay tuned for updates on that front.

For those interested, my profile picture is one of my favorites. The picture is what I'd look like, if you could take a picture of the "mental me" as I careen from crisis to crisis. If you'd like to see me as I'd appear on the street today, take a look at the real me - under my main profile picture.

Thanks for stopping by!!

Dennis

Hell Dennis - I'm definitely not a Jack (or Jill) of all trades! But I have my moments ...

Hi Dennis - glad to meet you! I'm a bit like you "Jill of all trades...". Thanks for your training. All the best. Alisa :)

Hi Alisa (aka Jill ;)

There's *lots* of training here - just be sure to implement what you learn by consistently publishing. Don't get too bogged down learning, or spend too much time chasing a low rank / Ambassador standing here at WA. Neither will pay the bills.

Best of luck in your efforts to set up your super niche!

Thanks Dennis - you're a mind reader - my goal from this week is to start consistently publishing (and stop training so much!!)

Cheers

Hi Prestones,

I hope you do not mind but I am buggin.

When in visual editor where it says Edit Post (new post). Under that there is the box where you enter the title.

I wrote a post. Filled in that box. Liked and kept the permalink, wrote the post hit publish and all was well.

After learning more(weeks later) I wanted to change what I had put in that box so I went back and changed it so it would be more enticing on my blog roll and the search engines not even considering keywords.

The permalink stayed exactly as it was. From what I have read this is fine to do as long as the permalink was not changed.

I did this 2 days ago. My traffic dropped. When I enter the permalink into webmaster fetch Googles tells me it's temp unavailable.

However Bing Webmaster finds it fine. Did I make a mistake changing the titles?

I read a reply you wrote to this very question but perhaps I misunderstood.

I hope I have explained it clearly. Thanks.

Hi Barry!

You're correct - you shouldn't have any issues if you haven't changed the URL of the page you modified. Double check with Google to see that it's available again, and try just putting the URL in your browser to verify it loads.

As to the traffic drop, Google initially puts your page up on it's search results page and gives it a fair amount of exposure. It then checks to see how long people remain engaged on your site (time on site), whether they exit your site directly from that page, etc. Once they have an idea of the visitors' interest, they assign a relevancy ranking to your page, adjust it's position in the search results (frequently down), and repeat the process x 10,000 for all the new pages they find and index.

Bottom line: it's not unusual to have lots of traffic during a 'honeymoon' phase for a new page, then see traffic drop off. It would be worrisome if the page returns a 404 (can't find the page) however.

Hope this helps!

Hi Dennis,

Thank you so much for the reply. It sure takes a bunch off my mind. i wasn't aware of the honeymoon phase and it's a good thing to know.

Webmaster is finding my URLs now and I checked the URLs using your URL suggestion and all is well.

I really appreciate your help. The more I learn the more I realize how little I know.

Thank again,

Barry

Hi Dennis, Just found one of your blogs (the one about link cloaking) while exploring WA. I can see you have a lot to offer other members, so I it is an honor for me to include you in my ever expanding network of gurus and newbies. I try to maintain a healthy balance of members who have much more to offer than I do, with those who are starting from scratch that I'll be able to help out. Thanks for posting such informative and useful blogs and training!

Greetings Hal!

Good to hear you're putting cancer and chemo behind you, and glad to hear you're finding value here at WA! Even happier to hear your intent to help others as they begin creating their internet business.

I've been easing back on posting here at WA - I got a little too caught up and began to slack off on my blogging. I'm trying to find a balance point now to make everything work.

Stay tuned :)

I know exactly what you mean. I go through the same thing. Trying to find the balance between the number of newbies and experienced members that I follow, blogging, training, tending my websites, my facebook page. It's definitely a juggling act. I guess that's why it takes some balls to be an enrteprenueur :-)

Good to meet you Dennis! Glad to see you enjoyed the bit about jump links - just one of a billion bits of information here at WA ;)

Don't forget to check out Jay's Live Video Class archive in the left sidebar - and perhaps give some consideration to taking in one of his live webinars before it hits the archive!

Dennis, it looks to me that if you are not a master you are at least very handy, and well above mediocrity. GrampaMike sent me here as a place to learn, and your "3 Ways to Bookmark" training became my first WA bookmark!

"Your referrals do not meet the minimum upgrade threshold of 5% to cash out". Hey could u help me out by explaining to me what this means please. I have 22 referrals and it does not let me cash out my credits, it keeps saying I do not meet the minimum upgrade threshold of 5%.I do not know what to do and how to cash out the credits. Please help, much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Kreber!

I've been largely off-line for the past week - apologies for the late response!

If you're having trouble with cashing out your referrals, take a look at the comments at for some thoughts. If that doesn't do any good, consider dropping Kyle a PM to point you in the right direction.

Hope this helps -
