So, I want to have the ability to change what comes up under a specific post on my blog roll before the words "Read More". I know you can manually change the excerpts but when I

I figured it out! I can't wait to be able to post training videos!

The tutorial by Labman suggested by SmallBiz101 is the only one available, but great one. Use it.

But your question is about the first paragraph, so you can always modify it and add 'read more' after that. It works all the time, just one click.

It depends on your theme, but you may be able to define excerpts that will be used on the blog page. The excerpt can be the same as your opening paragraph, a subset, or something entirely different.

Thank you! I will check this out now!

I've been wondering the same thing! Hopefully someone can answer this soon!

One of the extremely popular blogs I read had really enticing "teasers" as they call them and I want to control what people see so I can make it enticing to click on my post!

See my comment I left in reply to @Skighlers question.

In the editor tool bar there is the insert read more tag tool (see Attached). Place your cursor where you want the tag line placed and it will only show the excerpt above the line.

Awesome. Let me try that now!

Let me know if that works for you, if not Ill see if I can help more to get it how you want it.

so you dont want it to include your header? Is that right?

What if I don't want it to just be what is above the read more tag? As in I don't want it to include my H1 tag.

Basically what I want to do is choose exactly what shows up before "Read More". Maybe I will just use customized excerpts.

Take notice of my latest post, Unique Baby Names and Meanings. If you look at the excerpt that appears before Read More, it just looks like crap and isn't very inviting.

Yeah I was just trying it to see if by placing it at the start and end of what you want to show if I could achieve what you are looking for... that didnt work. So yeah you may have to customize the excerpts.

See I want to customize the excerpts but I want it to also say Read More! Ugh!

I think it shows well and I would click to read more if I was researching baby names, but then I dont have an example of what you want it to show to compare it to either.

Yeah I gotcha. I am messing around with mine right now trying to see if I can help you figure out how to reach your goal with this.

I am actually comparing it to a site that has been around for over 10 years and has a google PR of 8/10 so maybe I am just expecting a little too much out of a site that is only two months old lol! I like to be the best at what I do though so I want everything to be perfect!

Nothin wrong with that. I am the same way, I see something I like and I get annoyed until I can perfect it for myself and my own purpose.

Exactly, it takes over lol. All I do is try to figure out that minuscule detail and it takes away from writing content. Oh well, I think in the long run that kind of thing will pay off!

Oh most definitely all our tedious corrections for perfection will pay off in the end for us.

I am attempting to add an amazon deals widget to my sidebar by adding a text widget and copy and pasting the HTML code but when I do so, nothing shows up!

Help!

Welcome to my world. I worked on this for over two weeks. There is an issue between Amazon and Word Press that has not yet been resolved. My widget showed up, but in the lower left hand corner Off my page. I finally hired someone from Fiverr for $15 to correct it and he had to write some code to make it work. Let me know if you want to contact him.

Hi, one thing which caused problem to me (for Google adsense), perhaps this is your case as well. Let me know if it helps.

This is really bugging me!

If you go to my site you can see it in the bottom left corner. So weird.

healthykidhappykid.com

Thanks! Its a work in process!

Thanks for the link to look at the page, at first I couldn't find it, this is really strange as I it looks as though the widget has placed itself within you post that you created and not in the sidebar area. At first I could see the Amazon deals widget till I opened up your post. Website looks great too by the way.

You know what, it is showing up in the bottom left corner for some reason????

wonder if this is then placement of widgets? Maybe check widgets display settings.

Ok, now I am finally back.
Since Paul already tried it, we know that it SHOULD work.

Can you maybe make a screenshot from your backoffice where you put the code in the widget?

(I couldn't see the widget anywhere. Not even on the bottom left.)

I ended up removing it because wit looked really unprofessional lol.

Hey Skighler, I have just checked testing on my test web site and I have been able to add the Deals widget with the Iconic One theme and it shows. you can have a look at the test site here http://fruitnherb.com/ (sorry there is not a great deal on it still working out what I am doing with it. when you added the widget did you add in a Text box widget then add the code inside this?

Strange when you have added it to the text widget.... I can assure you it does work. You can see the code in the text widget yeah?

Yeah I am just copying and pasting the code.

Maybe it's a theme related problem.
I can try it when you tell me which theme you are using.
But will take a few hours because I am not at home right now.

The way you are trying to do it is correct, though.

I am using the Iconic One theme.

Hello All,

I just ran a google pagespeed insight and I am receiving at 37/100. A lot of what they are telling me to fix is very confusing so I am reaching out for some hel

Go to this website: https://gtmetrix.com/reports/besthomemonitoring.com/GGQVC72Q

You should be above 90% in both categories. Then go to https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/icansucceed another WA member and he has written a blog on how to speed up your site. Good luck!

I followed the guide posted below and I am now a one 90% for both areas!

Angela has linked you to a great training. See the above post also. If you read the comments below where I ask how to go about it, it might help a little! (Although a small disclaimer: I haven't managed to get to sorting this out for myself properly yet. I have tagged it to deal with it tomorrow!!)

Woah that's slow. Try to stay above 85

i am up to 71/100 on mobile and 87/100 on desktop now.

Looks like the guide the Angela posted dramatically increased the speed.

I'm using a plug in called ZenCache. It has done well making my pages zippy. Another benefit is the plug in compensates for added plug ins. I'm using about 12 plug ins on my site.

Thank you!
