So What Is Cache?
I have seen many people ask what is cache and why do I need to clear it from time to time?
Well let's put it in real simple terms.
Cache is like memory.
Internet browser cache, or Temporary Internet Files
Cache helps improve how fast data loads while browsing the internet.
When you visit a web page the page and all the files are sent to your browsers temporary cache on your hard drive.
So for example if a page or a file on that page needs to load again and it has not been modified - your browser will open that page or file from your cache instead of loading it again from it's original storage location. This makes things much faster.
And the greater number of requests that can be retrieved by the cache the faster your overall system performance will be. So cache saves you a lot of time.
Why You Need To Clear Your Cache Every So Often
Have you made changes on your site or have tried to access something and you can't see the changes or gain access?
Chances are it's because your request is be retrieved from your cache. By clearing your cache your request now has to come from the original storage location.
And because the original location has been modified you will now see those changes.
Other Cache
You have Server Cache
Server cache a device that is set up to store web pages that are accessed by users on a network.
So any user that is trying to access a web page on a cache server is sent to the stored version instead of downloading the page again. By doing this it saves the company money on bandwidth and also reduces internet traffic congestion.
You have Disk Caching
Disk caching is used to access commonly used data. This data is stored in your computer memory buffer. So when you use a program your computer will first check your disk cache to see if the data is there.
Doing this dramatically improves the performance of your applications.
To Clear Your Cache From Chrome
Go to Settings - then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Show Advanced Setting.
Scroll until you see Privacy and there you will see Clear Browsing Data, click on that button - this will also clear your Cache.
I hope this info helps you better understand Cache.
