It's weird in the last several days I have gotten questions about my ranking here.

In the last few weeks my ranking as an ambassador has dropped from 10 to 18th place.

So I thought I would just share my thoughts about it.

Yep my ranking is dropping. And my honest response is 'I don't care that it has"

My focus is and always be 2 things:

  1. Constantly building my business
  2. Helping people whenever I can

My rank in the WA in real honesty has no real tangible meaning to me.

Yes it's an indication of my engagement here in the WA - but it the real world (online) it has no meaning or value.

It does not make me money or grow my business inside or outside the WA.

My point is - my focus is pointed to where it benefits my business and the people I can help here in the WA or outside the WA.

And that will never change whether I am ranked 18th or 10,000 in the WA.

I believe in you
Leo

I agree that our focus at WA and life in general should be to help others. The reason I was concerned is that our ranking should be an expression of our compliance with the heart of WA and since it had been consistently dropping, I took it as an indication that I was missing something (Run on sentence).

Again ranking means nothing - there are people here that are ranked lower then I am and are a huge wealth of support and information.

DomW for example is ranked 54th currently - HUGE wealth of information and support to WA members and in fact will be featured in entrepreneur.com - but his rank does not reflect that here in the WA.

The WA rank is based on engagement.

That's why I say that your rank does not matter when it comes to what you provide people here in the WA.

Just do what you do, and forget about the rank.

What I love is that you are real. You help people everyday, and your success shows through in your confidence. Numbers and titles are lovely, but not your reason for being here. They DO help new people to connect with people who might have a little more information, which is why I chose to connect with higher ranked people and ambassadors upon signing up, I felt I wanted to be connected with them to learn more.

Thank you for the kind words, my focus will always be my business first and helping people whenever I can. Let everyone else worry about their ranking.

I'm going to say something that may upset a few people - but hey the truth usually does.

Don't be fooled by the high number (ranking) someone may have. And I am not just talking about the ambassador ranking.

There have been people that have been ranked high simply because the gamed the system. Such as by giving useless comments and providing little to no value.

This is not a popularity contest - it may be for some - but I would rather help someone reach their goals then be ranked high in the WA.

In general, I think the ranking system works well as a way of encouraging WA colleagues to work as a community, supporting and helping each other, and so on. It also promotes the notion that everyone can work upward to become an expert, which is psychologically healthy. Another point is that some people work well alone (though they may also help others) while others need a network of contact and encouragement.

I don't think any of the above conflicts with what leoemery says so well. Engagement in WA at the expense of focusing on your goals and achieving them is to be avoided. In other words, we should not focus on ranking within WA but on the ranking of our websites.

Very well said - focus also does come down to priorities if you focus on your rank here sure you can help many people and that's a good thing.

However doing that sacrifices building your business - and the point of being in the WA is to learn how to build a success online business first.

Thank you for the great comment

I agree, ranking doesn't matter. The only thing that can possibly be said in its' favour is that attempting it may be good experience in getting involved in social media for your business, i.e. good practice for FB or Twitter. Even then, I am not overly convinced.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

I prefer Twitter over FB. FB for me as far as business is concerned is not that good-too much gossip and people posting about everything that's going on with their lives. Just asking for attention! I did sign up for Pinterest which I find more interesting, and of course I do like Google + but I need to work on it more. Moving forward, Rochelle

I'm not keen on social media, but I know I need to do something with it! I suppose it's possible to advertise on FB and add share buttons without being actively involved in FB. I will need to try out the others.
I have had a LinkedIn account for some while, but I haven't really done anything with it. I suspect it might be really useful for business, so I will get more involved in 2015, my first resolution!
All the best,
Brandon

Most honorable engagement @ WA doesn't take that long. Why on earth would my rank trump spending quality time building out my site? Which of the two will feed me and pay the bills? Rank will always follow anyone doing the right thing and yes I'm striving to be one of those folks everyday.
Reply

True - but I see plenty of people focusing on their rank here - which to me is a bad thing. It's taking people away from what they should be focusing on - building their business.

Hey Leo - agree with you on the ranking! I was delighted at arriving at 218 and just as I thought I would go under the 200 mark - low and behold suddenly I was at 250 - over the next few weeks my rankings went to 337 - but I really think this maybe is to do with larger numbers of new sign ups to WA than anything else? Oh I agree but it comes down to priorities - you must place yours before everyone else.

Helping can be part of your daily routine - get the things you need to get done for the day to build your business - then at the end of the day you can help others.

But I hear from people that they get pulled away from what they are doing to help others.

And I say - no you're not getting pulled away - it's that you choose to be pulled away.

I actually had someone get real upset at me because I did not drop everything to help them.

I told them politely I'm sorry but I had other priorities, and can't be pulled away from it at the moment but as soon as I am done I'll be more than happy to help you - they still sent back a angry email.

I said fine I will drop everything for you I charge $500 per hour for private consultations - never heard back - go figure.

Actually had a similar conversation with someone today, refused to drop everything for a favor I am doing on someone's website - it is a freebie, I will never get any profit from it and he wanted me to jump there and then when I had said I would do it before the end of the day. i had a huge flurry of abusive conversation and then said ok i will do it now and I charge $300 an hour. Suddenly it is not urgent anymore.

Quite true. It may make people feel warm and fuzzy but there shouldn't be any type of ranking that makes people feel small or worth no value. When in actuality everyone has value and is not a number. If one focused on helping others then you feel warm and fuzzy not to do it for a number or ranking.

Help where you can. Rank will take care of itself.

I post a training or a blog here. I click copy the affiliate link at the top of the blog post and write a summary of the blog or training which I post to my website blog with the link as a read more button. I share my post and my web abstract with my social media.

That does two things for me. One, WA is an excellent back link. Two doubles my social media exposure.

Sometimes I do it the other way around. Iʻll post an abstract here and link it to the article on my website. That gets more of you to my website and builds traffic to my site.

Since I joined the yearly membership I have toned it back myself and trying to figure out what direction to go in next for my site or a new site...not sure.
How much do you know about the update services settings. I know we put pingomatic in originally, then I saw recommendations to add others, so I did. But I was reading in the area for the update services that WP automatically turns it off if you have more than one listed there. They recommended to use the activate update services plugin so that they are all working, but I am not sure if they are actually working or not....other than pingomatic I do know is working.
What is your thought on this.

Good that you are more focused on your business than a ranking. I prefer to see ambassadors who actually have made it in the IM arena as opposed to the ambassadors that are really the "Walmart Greeters" of WA It is great to give of yourself and your time but as an ambassador I would want it to be someone who I can look up to and one who has made it in the IM market. You my friend are one of the few that makes a good living by doing this thus your ambassadorship should stay same.

Cool Leo!

I agree, we are here first and foremost to develop an awesome presence online with websites that make us money! Once we know how to do that we can help others do the same, as we have time to.

Some have more time than others. Some think of WA like it's Facebook. It's great to be social at WA, and post all kinds of personal things, but unless you have the time and just enjoy sharing, it makes no you no money. Also, you can really only help the community if you spend the time to learn what you need to know to build a successful online business and then act on that knowledge!

When I have some downtime I enjoy reading what people are up to and sharing in their lives, but only after getting done each day what is on my list! In fact, I need to keep at it right now. I always enjoy your posts Leo, and this one caught my attention.

Ranking numbers mean nothing really. You can get to the top just by being social and posting every day. That's great! People here put out some good stuff, but I hope they focus on their business first because if they are not making the money they want then their attention should be directed elsewhere.

So Leo, thanks for your great educational posts. I always like to read and listen to the things you pass along.

Merry Christmas and best wishes for a prosperous New Year!
Reply
leoemery Premium
First off thank you for the kind words.

You made a great point - prioritize things - build your business first - get the things that need to be done that will grow your business done first.

Once that is done then you can socialize, share and help people here in the WA.

People say to me "I see you here all the time"

It may look like that but I work on my business first - then I come here - I also pop in here when I want to step away while I am in the middle of working on my business - it's a nice diversion.

And Merry Christmas and best wishes for a prosperous New Year to you as well.
