Follow The Following The Follow
At Wealthy Affiliate we are surrounded by a community of like-minded people. We are allowed and encouraged to build a following and to follow others.
It is not like Facebook, where an algorithm determines who will see your posts. It is set up on a business scale for friendship and growth.
When we follow others, they have the choice to follow us back. Many will read your profile to determine if they want to be your friend which if a good reason to write an informative bio.
Why follow?
1. When you follow someone, they will see your posts.
To me, this is the biggest reason to follow others. When I write a blog post here at WA, I do so to help others. I share my experiences, accomplishments, and mistakes for others to learn. In light of this, I want as many people as possible to see what I write.
I also want to see the informative, motivating, and success posts of others.
2. Also, when you follow others, you will see the questions they post.
I like to help others on their road to success. When I follow and follow back, WA will notify me of questions they may have. I know when someone needs assistance.
3. Friendship.
I want to build friendships with others in the community. I like to associate with people who think as I do and who are willing to set me straight when I get off balance. Here at Wealthy Affiliate, I have friends all over the world. We assist each other on the road to success.
4. To welcome new members.
When we are new at anything, we want to feel welcome. Here at WA, we have a community of loving, caring members. We want everyone to feel accepted and supported. WA is not a click of members. We are a business platform which helps others succeed with the knowledge we obtain.
Why not to follow!
1. To increase your ranking.
I am not sure if this is still in the algorithm, but some will follow thousands of people at a time to increase their ranking. If you are one of these, you are not building relationships. You are doing so as a gain for you only.
2. To see your numbers rise
Following here at WA is not a competition. FB is different; it is a competition for some. WA is a pay-it-forward community where we support others to help them.
How to follow
How to unfollow
We don’t like to think we will need to unfollow, but if someone is rude or inappropriate, you can unfollow them.
Click on the same button you used to follow them. The person who you unfollowed will not know. I have only needed to do this two times in the year that I have been with Wealthy Affiliate.
If you see something, I have missed, please feel free to add it. We are all here to assist one another.

Love it. I usually follow anyone I have had at least some contact with and those who I have love a post or comment, because I would like to read more.
I have also built a wonderful network of like minded very supportive people which I am truly grateful for.
Thanks for a great very informative post : )
Good evening Laura,
As I am new to FB would you be so kind as to explain this algorithm you talk about? Gracias.
Greetings from the south of Spain, T
Sure. so FB changed their algorithm. When a person friends someone they may not see your posts unless FB thinks it is important to them. So I can post with 600 followers (friends) and maybe only 10-20 people will see it. It is a bit ridiculous. I don't post to my personal page often. I do post to my business page but I think it is the same way with it also.

Good Morning Laura,
Thank you for clarifying this. Now, this is really nice FB thinks and decides for you. I am not pleased at all, we are losing our freedom.
I put my website posts on my profile and make them public and then I also post them in the only group, closed, I am but in the end, the audience remains small.

This post has got me laughing, Laura. Think it simply states the truth.
I wish here at WA, they was an additional feature called "Befriend" or simply "Friends". Because there's actually a difference between befriending and following.
Thanks for sharing.
So happy to give you a good laugh. Laughter is good for the soul no matter what the reason. Keep laughing my "befriend"

I wish I could like this post a hundred times so it would reach number 1 blog of the day. It should be required reading for all new members.
I follow others to find people within my niche that have more online experience than I currently possess. While my offline marketing is untouched within my niche, online is another story.
The main reason I went Premium at WA is to take my very profitable personal training business online. I can reach and help so many more clients online than one-on-one.
It is working.
Thanks for sharing Laura.
Make a living, make a difference.
Mark
Oh Yes Mark, I wish you could like it a hundred times also. I wrote it for the beginners and I am not sure many will see it.
Thanks so much for all of your support. You are awesome.
Laura
Hey girl, all is moving along well here on the not so home front. Thank you for stopping by.
Laura
I like to follow people just in case they put out training or to see their comments and learn from them.
I know, isn't it great the way that works. I love the way WA has the following system set up.
Laura
Thank you Laura for sharing and building awareness much appreciated.
It is great to let others know the power of this community that is second to none.
Have a great day
Jennifer
Laura, you just keep hitting the nail on the head! I noticed my rank increasing but didn’t know why as I’m not a great follower.
It dawned on me when I decided to welcome all the new Premiums and to try to make an encouraging post daily, that’s why.
When our motives are pure and we really set out to help others, everything else just clicks.
Great post as always.
Joe
Joe, so well said as usual. Yes to increase our rank with followings for the right reasons is an extra added bonus.

All true. I love the 'Follow' set up here. Being able to see the vast wealth of diverse posts is brilliant. I agree 'wholeheartedly' that the system should not be gamed. If you are going to follow someone, at least have the courtesy to say 'Hi' or 'Thank you' if they've followed you. It doesn't need to be an essay. Some members profiles are incredible.
I agree with you. I love reading the profiles. Some have so much insight and so much drive.
And others have been through so much and still come out on top.
