Photographing raindrops in spain
Hello Everybody, here is my monthly post
Yesterday the Malaga region was on red alert.
The meteorological service predicted 100 liters in a very short time, like in a few minutes.
The morning started ok, there were a few clouds but as the morning advanced it got really black over the mountains to the south. Then suddenly it started raining, not raining it was pouring down creating a huge noise on the roof tiles.
I opened the door to the patio and with my small digital camera took a quick picture and closed the door as water was splashing in. I still had time to see the water canal on the roof of the garage. The amount of rain coming down was far more the water canal could hold so it came over the side forming like a curtain.
I was grateful that the farmers in old time knew how to build their farms. Even if the house is situated on a slight slope the water runs swiftly passing the south side, cobblestones lead the water away from the building. On the patio which is big, the cobblestone pattern is pretty and slopes away from the house. The house is 180 years old but the water does not come in, just as well as the house has no foundation.
The rain did not last more than 10 minutes and I opened the windows again. I went up to my computer to look at the pictures and was really surprised. It was like 11.00 in the morning but very dark. This activated the flash on my camera. It reflected on the big raindrops. It looks like Christmas decoration in the air, really unusual.

Very nice Taetske. I envy you because we are getting snow. We don't have to shovel rain! As we move into the Christmas season I wish you a great holiday.
Trevor
Good Morning Trevor,
These last 3 months there have been torrential rains all over the country causing a lot of damage where people lost everything.
I have lived here since 1981 and have seen how the weather has changed over the years. Where I live the only snow I might see is at the top of the mountains. Thank you for your Christmas wishes, my best wishes to you and your family go your way.

I can imagine southern Spain is like the American Southwest. Flash flooding in various areas!
Good Morning Mike,
These last 3 months have been really bad in Spain. All over the country there have been torrential rains and causing big damage to houses and infrastructure.

Hi Taetske...in Southern Arizona we call this type of rain the "Monsoons". It happens during the months of June, July and August. Downpours for about 10 minutes but when it's over everything is back to normal. It doesn't even look like it rained because the temperatures are so hot. But for those few minutes, it's heaven...fresh and clean.
Always nice to hear from you.
Debbie
Good Morning Debbie,
These last 3 months there were a lot of rains like that and in many places, it caused complete havoc. Whole villages had their houses swept clean of all furniture by the torrents and cars were pilled up 3 high. We say the weather is crazy but I think we are doing crazy things to the planet.

As you described the torrential crazy 10 minutes rain in Malaga, you reminded me of when it rains in Italy. Having lived in UK, I've come to compare many natural events between hot Italy and grey and rainy but relatively mild UK. When it rains in UK, it's persistent drizzle lasting for hours on end - in fact days on end sometimes! But it's hardly ever violent crazy rain of hotter Mediterranean countries.
I hope your crazy rain of yesterday didn't cause much damage to properties and, mostly, to people, Taetske, and I hope you are all well xxx
Giulia :)
Good Morning Giulia,
All is well here, thank you. These last 3 months since the rain started again ( it stopped completely after April) there have been a lot of catastrophes all over the country, biggest one was in Mallorca where people drowned in their cars. In a very short period more than 200 liters came down on that village, next door village only got 25 liters.
I have lived here on my farm since 1981 and see how the weather has changed over those years, seasons have gone missing.
Is there anybody out there still denying climate change?

Good evening Loes.
It is quite a sight when you open the door and there is like a river passing the house. Everything is ok here but there were more than 100 emergency calls in Malaga and the fire brigade had a lot of work.
