A Wolf named SCAM

Last week I opened up my email to read all the new blogs like I do every morning. Going through approximately 12 emails, I came across an email that said to continue my search engines to work for me I had to register my sites so the search engines would work for me. I thought this is strange another expense?

Being a little confused about the email I decided first I would ask the WA community. After asking my question if anyone was familiar with this new charge of $47.00 a month.

I went back to work. I decided to move my website from SiteRubix to a .com. The process was quite simple. I was very pleased to own a piece of web real estate. Proceeded to go back and finish reading the blogs.

About an hour I was finished.

The second email;

This email confirms your Domain Name Search Engine Registration(s) for a total of $47.00 has been successfully processed and charged to your card. The charge will appear on your statement from our processor as "WORKONPHONE(DOT)COM".

Note: It is very important you remember how this transaction will appear on your card statement because later if you become confused when looking at your statement and you dispute this transaction with your bank, your domain(s) will be removed from the registration system and you will be reported to the Internet Consumer Blacklist which may prevent you from making future purchases on the web!

Please allow up to 2 weeks to see your domain(s) listed depending on the search engine. Any questions or concerns please reply to this email. Thanks!

Logged in and the dashboard opened up. Started to work on my website. So after a while, I finished writing my page. I scrolled down to update the site address. When I clicked on the site address, a window popped up telling me that I had to opt into the search engine optimization before I could continue.

I clicked out and brought up the WA page again to see if anyone could shed some light on this new charge. I didn't see and answer so thinking this has to be legit being as it was on the dashboard it must be legit.

I brought up the email and ordered the SEO they required. I clicked out and went back to my dashboard. Clicked on my site address and the pop-up didn't appear.

Thinking I was good to go, I continued my work. Everything seemed to be good.

I went back to reading the blogs and came across another Affiliate who received the same type of email. Only the to see she had an enormous amount of responses saying this was a SCAM! SCAM! SCAM!

Oh no, what the heck do I do to myself now? I went back to the email and tried to contact this company about the mistake that I had made. All the information on the email for refunds and the phone numbers addresses were phony.

Now I'm panicking. What am I going to do? I decided to research the contact information on GOOGLE. WOW!

I was not able to find any information on this guy. Except he has a website called WorkOnPhone.com. He markets a phone app reselling site.

I'm getting worried. Who is this guy?

How did he get to the dashboard of WA?

So I brought up my credit card and disputed the charge. Then I called my credit card company. I explained my situation to them. They did some research on their end, and that they were unable to contact this guy.

I asked them to put a block on my card for this guy so they would not be able to charge for the initial payment and any other future charges. They happily did all that I asked.

Feeling relieved I was able to stop this before it got out of hand.

I'm not that sharp yet to see the snakes in the grass.

I will post any new developments to this issue.

I want to remind all that you must be on high alert for garbage like him.

Always be on your guard. There are many slimeballs on the internet.

Take heed there are wolves at the door!!

Thanks for stopping by,

Kevin

Thanks for sharing this Kevin .. Cheers, William.

There are always unscrupulous people on the prowl.

There sure are some scum of the earth people out there. Thanks for the warning.

One giveaway of scam emails is the harsh tone, such as: "Failure to complete your Domain name search engine registration by the expiration date may result in cancellation of this offer making it difficult for your customers to locate you on the web."

In contrast, a real email asking you to renew a subscription, etc., has a friendly, confused tone: "What happened? We'd love for you to come back!" or "Oops! We were unable to process your method of payment; maybe you need to update payment information."

The phrase "this notice is not an invoice" is their protection from being sued for fraud. As much as they try to make their email look like a bill you need to pay, that notice says that it's not. Any payment that you make to them is "voluntary". You'll find it in most, if not all, scam emails.

Great warning thanks.

When they ask for things watch out!

Thanks Mike, I'm a little sharper because of my experience.

Experienced will make you sharp. I am glad you were able to cancel the charge.

Hi Kevin,
Yes these things are scams. The first one I received a while ago said my domain was expiring and I needed to renew it right a way. I knew the domain was not expiring so it was a scam. Now I get these almost weekly. I have 30 domains registered and these scammers try on every one. I noticed that your domain according to whois is registered here at MYWAHOSTING.COM and that it has an expiration date of 24-oct-2017. So it appears that you are ok.
No matter where you turn today, there is somebody trying to take advantage and get your hard earned money.
Good work in stopping it right away.
Joe

Thank you

Well done, Kevin. You did a good job acting promptly. Again, good work coming from the community. Chris

Thank you

Whew Kevin, good thing you could have you credit card company stop the transaction.

Yes scary stuff
