I'm an artist and teacher in Colorado. A late-life career change brought me to teaching last year, and I just completed my first year as a High School English teacher. It was great. Now it's over, and my contract has been non-renewed.
Something most people don't know: First-year teachers are often "fired" after their first year, making room for more experienced teachers within the district to take their position. They'll probably be re-hired later, once student registration is completed, just as the new school year starts. This is the real reason so many first-year teachers never come back.
"You're not good enough in May, but if we're desperate we may take you back in the fall." This disheartening message makes webmasters out of good teachers.
