I Choose to Fly

Does anyone else here have flying dreams? I had one last night.

I was in a crowd at a stadium, hiding from some type of authority figures who intended to give me an injection which would turn me into a zombie. (Yep, one of those dreams.) At some point, while hiding amongst the zombies, they spotted me as the real person I am. I can't always remember the details of my dreams, but this I remember quite clearly.

I looked back, and I said, "No."

Turning to the field, I looked a a clock tower on the other side. I reached out my arms and I commanded the clock to bring me to it. I flew. Like a dart, I left my spot in the crowd and flew over the field like Superman and I landed on the precarious, narrow shelf at the base of the clock. I turned back to my pursuers and I smiled.

That was the end of the dream.

If you've followed my profile at all, you know I lost my teaching job after a single, successful year of teaching. I met all my rubrics and received assurances that there was nothing I could have done differently or better.

I've spent the summer self-blaming. ("There must have been something I did wrong!") I've spent the summer feeling rejected. ("Did somebody not like me? I thought they all liked me!") I spent the summer getting really scared. ("What will I do without a job?") I spent the summer getting angry. ("Who do they think they are?")

I also spent the summer writing and building my website, avidly, cumpulsively, enthusiastically. It's really taking off!

School starts here next week, and I still have no teaching job. I could roll over like a kicked puppy and cry about it, or I could look back and say, "No."

I woke up flying this morning. I also woke to the email announcing that my website was accepted as an Etsy affiliate!

It doesn't take a dream expert to see the obvious. Time's up, and I choose to fly!
