Hi @Kyle & team,

So I have had a very negative comment left on my site. My first thought was to simply delete it, but I wonder if it's a chance to provide a response?

Here's the comment:

Obviously I completely disagree as I KNOW I'm getting my money's worth out of my subscription to WA:

  • With five websites up and running - that in itself is worth the annual subscription!!!

Then there's:

  • Super awesome technical support
  • Access to some of the best affiliate training out there, not to mention a community of like-minded individuals and quite a few experts in this area (there's nothing like tapping into the expertise of others to jump start an online business)
  • Free keyword search tool
  • Content creation tool which has helped me create awesome content for my site
  • Affiliate program to promote - IF you want to

And that's just scratching the surface.

My question is... Do I respond to the comment (and if so, I'd love your suggestions on how), or Do I simply press DELETE?

Over to you...

Thanks so much,

Cheers, Karen

Good Morning Karen,

I do not have a website which promotes WA but I do get "strange" comments now and then. As these people do not put their name I have now started to put it in the bin. In the beginning, I would ask them to present themselves but that did not help.

Greetings from the south of Spain, Taetske

I like the blog option that requires you to approve all comments rather than allowing irrelevant faff to automatically publish. This allows you to make the decision to either treat a negative comment as part of a useful and open conversation, OR - if you’ve identified it as irredeemably unhelpful, just remove it. I’d just remove what you’ve shared here.

I noticed in my googling of the WA site ahead of going premium, that there was a certain highly motivated person maintaining a site with adverse opinions of WA. Of course I looked at it. But the reasoning contained therein was not relevant to my needs or concerns, so I joined WA anyway.

It’s possible these comments are being left by the same person. I’m sorry they’ve a had disappointing experience - but in the same breath... beating the drum about WA on their own site has been a successful way for them to maintain site relevance and use the drag-wind of WA’s performance to improve their own.

It’s actually one of the many adversarial business tactics I’m cataloging in my PhD!

Interesting topic for your PhD Ivy! Thanks for sharing :-)

LOL - I hope I can sustain that interest over the time it takes to complete the project!

But hey, I'm interested now - how did you choose to respond? With a deletion or a comeback? And now I'm also curious as to how many more people had the same comment pasted onto their blogs?

My website is hosted on another provider whom shall remain nameless, but I can tell you that I don't get near the support with them that I get here at WA. In fact, I told my wife of my WA membership and, when she checked out what I was doing, she said that the support alone was worth 10X my membership dues. I have to agree . . . but Kyle and Carson, don't raise them. LOL

yes shhhhh! It's one of WA's best kept secrets LOL

There are people who would be unhappy with a paid day off at the lake. They have no joy in their lives and seem to live to suck the joy out of others. If this poster had a valid criticism, they should have made it with provable data to back it up. Just saying something "sucks" is crude and ignorant. Delete them.

LOL I love your analogy! And I've definitely met people like that in real life! Thanks for your comments :-)

This is an excellent opportunity to respond and add additional information about the Wealthy Affiliate program.

Facts are that you will always have opinions and feedback from others that vary across the continuum from an avid fan to a hater...

You now can describe WHY WA is not a lie, how it helps newbies and experienced marketers, etc.

If it starts a discussion with that person all the better, yet again more of an opportunity to add yet more content.

There are rival platforms to WA whose members will take shots as possible at WA, and comments are one way to do that...

Facts dispel such misinformation and this is a place to use them and turn what some may think of as a negative thing into a way to get more people reading and checking for themselves...

This is just my way of handling such a comment, I see others recommend just deleting it...I would rather get some mileage out of it!

Cheers!
Dave : )

Hi Dave, I kind of agree, deleting the comment feels like a lost opportunity....

For what it's worth, I would delete the message and continue on my path. It seems your direction is working well for you and you are happy with it. Keep doing what you are doing and enjoy it.

It is our own responsibility to figure why we are not successful in any endeavor. If I fail at something, that is on me. I see no benefit in taking others down with me. If anything, it takes energy away from my next venture if I choose to do something different.

If the person (or persons) spreading negativity spent as much time and energy focusing on how to make their business better they might become successful.

It seems to me, those who feel the need to take others down with them when they fail, have bigger issues to deal with. We can feel blessed that we do not carry that burden ourselves.

Have A Great Day ! Bert

Good feedback - thanks Bert :-)

The other thing is this was not just targetted at you alone Karen, so I would really just forget all about it. I got the same one and just marked it as spam and then deleted it as I was not getting into a discussion with someone when I had no idea what had went on.

It is entirely up to yourself but do you then want to get into a slagging match with someone and all these comments are on your site for people who may look at it and think to themselves I am not joining here and you lose out on a referral. xxxx

I would leave it on and ask people at wa to comment on your site how it so awesome because how that guy could come to that conclusion is beyond me other than he clearly thought when he paid his first months payment he would be wealthy without doing anything. The people you want to attract into wa who will see right through his comment

There is someone out there running a fairly organized "hate-attack" on WA recently!

Kyle & Carson and our community will stand strong and overcome!

Love your idea!

Let's WA-love the person to their demise (real or bot)!

I noticed that same campaign as well! The same person has made a kind of quasi-business model out of riding on the back of the WA brand and its listing.

Take the High Road ....

Leave it in....

Show's that the individual who left the negative comment is travelling the Low Road...post this link...or give your explanation of your choices to be at WA!

Lots of attacks against WA out there these days it seems!

That's OK by us!

Kyle & Carson & Jay & each other have our backs!

To quote Taylor Swift: Haters gonna hate!

We are not haters here at WA!

We're too good looking and funny and smart for that! Lol!

Barb

I got essentially the same comment on my website. I left it and expressed that I was sorry they have not had any success in their field and I would offer to ensure they had what they needed to succeed her as long as they were willing to work at it.

Hi Mickey,

Love the "no success in their field" tactic!

Sociopaths hate people who get the upper hand with higher levels of intelligence...they are essentially mis-parented 2-3 year olds!

I like this as well :-)

Familiar with trolls and bots? This is one of the two. If it happens to be the second one, replying won't garner a reply. If it's the first, that's exactly what they want you to do.

How trolls operate is, basically, they say something to rattle you and expect you to respond. If you don't respond, they get bored and move on to something (Someone) else. Of course, they don't wait. They aren't 'target-specific.'

Don't ask me what I'd do, because I already know: I'd respond. I -am- troll-bait, but it's because I like trolls. They help me keep my mind sharp and I know how to use them as chew-toys. They kill a good 3-4 hours when they're really good at what they do, and 5 minutes when they're unskilled wannabe trolls. Those are the ones I usually feel cheated by.

Every troll I enter combat with these days talks themselves to death. What I mean by that is usually they become vocal enough and/or high-enough-traffic that they get noticed by moderators and banned. Not here, necessarily, but on social media sites, chatrooms, forums, etc -- places where active moderators exist and tend to notice 'eventually.'

So, my advice in this specific case: Mark it as spam. This, based on my experiences elsewhere (Who knows if it works this way here), does two things: One, it sends it to the moderation team or whoever spam goes to. Two: It removes it from your post.

Again, I don't know if either of these activities are true on this site (I haven't made a blog, therefore haven't had comments worth marking as spam, and I highly doubt I'd be informed that my spam has been handled by a moderator even if that were the case ... and I couldn't prove it even if I was told). But worst-case, it doesn't do anything and just sits there... which is what it's doing right now. If it operates like 'delete' and removes it from your post, at least it's out of your hair.

But, I don't recommend just deleting a comment like that, because a deleted comment is completely 'gone' in theory. They may not have a place to figure out whether that comment was deleted for a reason or by request or if it was just specifically your decision to delete the comment for your own reasons ... in other words, they don't have a way to research -why- it was deleted. Maybe.

I don't know what tools they have, or what they do in any case in the background, but with the options there in the screenshot, you now have my suggestions. :)

Dear Gotenks,

Love your Gladiator approach to Trolls!

Bet your IQ is TOPS!

Agree, fight back to show their true ridiculousness or press SPAM!

Cheers!

Dr Barb

hey, love your reply - perhaps that's a niche in itself? TrollBaiters.com ? ;-) I think I'm erring towards the idea of marking it as spam as you suggest - thanks, Kaz

Finally able to reply.

Maybe! I'm sure there're a few people who'd pay to have trolls trolled. Though there aren't any products that apply specifically to baiters since baiting's free. I guess if someone found a time machine, they could sell time.

My IQ is in the lower 20's (I don't really know what my IQ is), but that doesn't take away the fun!

I want one....the time machine that is...not a troll...I already have one of those...lol!

If your IQ wa in the 20's you'd be a potato!!!

If you mean 120...closer...
I'd hazard to guess 150-180 range...

Smart & funny & kooky!!!!=Mensa

Nope, I meant 20! Wait, what's wrong with potatoes?
