One of the first statements in Philosophy 101 that a student learns is "The more I know, the more I know that I don't know anything". Something like that. I tried to explain it to my 11 year old the other day and she couldn't really grasp the idea. Of course at her age it feels like you know everything. In fact, her most used phrase is "I know!". I think that was triggered the whole conversation.
I have this old clock that I brought with me from Russia. It isn't really all THAT old, about 100+ years, but still... As we trotted around the world we'd bring it with us, always. My husband would personally pack it very carefully, lining inside parts with tissue paper. He loves it! Somehow along the way a tiny plank broke and damaged a spring, and of course the clock isn't working anymore. I took the damaged parts to Moscow on one of my visits, and took it to a clock master to replicate them. She didn't do a good job, and the new parts don't work. Unfortunately, the old one she never returned, probably discarded it immediately. Here I am in the US, quite a few years later, listening to a podcast about a guy, who used to be a brilliant horologist. Do you know what it is? I didn't either. Horology is an art of restoring, not just fixing, but restoring old clocks to its original design and mechanical and engineering perfection. Restoring this clock was on my bucket list ever since it broke, and thanks to this new information I got I now know where to look.
Another thing: steganography - a way to protect digital images. Certainly something to look into and investigate a bit more on the subject, since I do use images that I take from websites I wish to promote. Shall I attribute them or do they consider public and free to use? Need to find out more.
Live and learn. Life presents me this amazing new information on a regular basis, not to mention WA, where I learn a ton every day.
